LGBT Community Gets Rick-Rolled by Obama

rickroll

We tried to tell them, but they wouldn’t listen.  “Obama is not your friend” we said.  “He said he opposes gay marriage.”

“He has to say that for the campaign” they said.  “Wait until he’s elected.”

Well, the campaign is over, he was elected, and guess what?

From Politico:

Barack Obama’s choice of a prominent evangelical minister to deliver the invocation at his inauguration is a conciliatory gesture toward social conservatives who opposed him in November, but it is drawing fierce challenges from a gay rights movement that — in the wake of a gay marriage ban in California — is looking for a fight.

Rick Warren, the senior pastor of Saddleback Church in Southern California, opposes abortion rights but has taken more liberal stances on the government’s role in fighting poverty, and backed away from other evangelicals’ staunch support for economic conservatism. But it’s his support for the California constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage that drew the most heated criticism from Democrats Wednesday.

“Your invitation to Reverend Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at your inauguration is a genuine blow to LGBT Americans,” the president of Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solomonese, wrote to Obama Wednesday. “[W]e feel a deep level of disrespect when one of architects and promoters of an anti-gay agenda is given the prominence and the pulpit of your historic nomination.

In a response, Obama calls himself “a fierce advocate for equality for gay and lesbian Americans.”

Yeah.  So fierce that he ran around with Donnie McClurkin and skipped this year’s Gay Pride Parade in Chicago so he could get a haircut and go to the gym.  So fierce he has postponed dealing with DADT until the 12th of Never.

———————————————————————————

UPDATE:

Sam Stein published a copy of the Obama team’s talking points on this controversy:

• This will be the most open, accessible, and inclusive Inauguration in American history.

• In keeping with the spirit of unity and common purpose this Inauguration will reflect, the President-elect and Vice President-elect have chosen some of the world’s most gifted artists and people with broad appeal to participate in the inaugural ceremonies.

• Pastor Rick Warren has a long history of activism on behalf of the disadvantaged and the downtrodden. He’s devoted his life to performing good works for the poor and leads the evangelical movement in addressing the global HIV/AIDS crisis. In fact, the President-elect recently addressed Rick Warren’s Saddleback Civil Forum on Global Health to salute Warren’s leadership in the struggle against HIV/AIDS and pledge his support to the effort in the years ahead.

• The President-elect disagrees with Pastor Warren on issues that affect the LGBT community. They disagree on other issues as well. But what’s important is that they agree on many issues vital to the pursuit of social justice, including poverty relief and moving toward a sustainable planet; and they share a commitment to renewing America’s promise by expanding opportunity at home and restoring our moral leadership abroad.

• As he’s said again and again, the President-elect is committed to bringing together all sides of the faith discussion in search of common ground. That’s the only way we’ll be able to unite this country with the resolve and common purpose necessary to solve the challenges we face.

• The Inauguration will also involve Reverend Joseph Lowery, who will be delivering the official benediction at the Inauguration. Reverend Lowery is a giant of the civil rights movement who boasts a proudly progressive record on LGBT issues. He has been a leader in the struggle for civil rights for all Americans, gay or straight.

• And for the very first time, there will be a group representing the interests of LGBT Americans participating in the Inaugural Parade.

Just out of curiousity, is anyone parroting these words without attribution?  Because that would tend to identify them as members of the “team.”

  1. I am referring, of course, to the LGBT’s that supported Obama, not the smart ones.

  2. I wouldn’t expect anything less from our appointed leader.

    To all the Obots:

WTF did you think he was gonna do and why?

  3. The pastor of Saddleback Church? Hmmm…. Saddleback? That just sounds so Brokeback to me.
Them homophobes… they got thems tendencies ya know. Poor ol Donnie McClurkin whom Jesus saved from homasexiality. Thing is rumor abides that Donnie isn’t saved on the weekends. Go figure.

Yes, yes… we told them so. We cried it from the rooftops… Obama is no friend to us in the LGBT community. We listed it out nice and clear. The evidence was strong, and the evidence was there a pleny.

    Go figure.

  4. Saw this comment on political WTH!

lol lol lol… Now GOP conservative base hypocrites, lets see you berate President Obama for this slick move. PE Obama is a genius to have picked Mr.Warren because he knows the guy is full of horse manure laced with hypocrisy and his faith base forum was a ridged John McCain setup that didn’t work. Who’s laughing now Mr.Warren & your phony conservative base hypocrites? President Barack Obama is!!!!.

  5. He says he wants to talk to people he disagrees with — but that doesn’t mean he has to have them speak at the inaugural.

Letting someone participate in an inaugural is a statement.

  6. Isn’t all this above obama’s pay grade?

  7. Geez Downticket.. that is an amazing piece of PR you picked up there at WTH. I’m thinking these guys are verbal yoga masters. Only problem is that if you supposed believe in God and I’ve heard that Obama
is a CHRISTIAN (emphasis Obama’s), then you wouldn’t be playing political games with the person you chose to do the religious bit of the showcase.
But I guess this shows an error in logic and Obamacons do not compute such things. They just move on.

  8. It’s not as if Obama wasn’t clear on his position…”As a Christian, I don’t support Gay marriage…but I can afford to give them some domestic partner rights” (a paraphrase). Doug Kmiec, one of the main supporters of prop 8, and Roy Romer were in charge of the late campaign “Values” tour for Obama. How much bigger 2 x 4 does one need to get hit with????

  9. I read The New Agenda’s blog piece about Warren — apparently he’s one of those ministers who preach that women should submit to their husbands authority.
Taken with RD’s previous post about Louisa’s Law and Domestic Violence, Warren is part of the problem.

    http://thenewagenda.net/2008/12/18/yet-another-insult-to-women-obama-chooses-a-sexist-pastor-for-his-inaugural/

And I’m sure he & BO are a lot alike.

  10. OT but saw this at cannonfire. Apparently the Organic Consumers Association is not so thrilled with the choice of Vilsack as the Secretary of Agriculture.

Stop Vilsack’s Confirmation as Secretary of Agriculture

Despite a massive public outcry, including over 20,000 emails from the Organic Consumers Association, President-Elect Obama has chosen former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to be the next Secretary of Agriculture.

While Vilsack has promoted respectable policies with respect to restraining livestock monopolies, his overall record is one of aiding and abetting Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) or factory farms and promoting genetically engineered crops and animal cloning. Equally troubling is Vilsack’s support for unsustainable industrial ethanol production, which has already caused global corn and grain prices to skyrocket, literally taking food off the table for a billion people in the developing world.

    http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/642/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=1783

  11. Choosing RW to give the invocation is a statement.

I believe the term is “loud and clear.”

  12. I think B0’s use of the word “fierce” was a pander to the GLBT crowd. 😉

To the idiotic members of the GLBT who voted for B0 I have no sympathy. In the immortal words of Maya Angelou: When a person shows you who he is, believe him! B0 toured SC with McClurkin back in January; he had a “Faith, Family & Values Tour” with Kmeic; he has said time and again marriage is between a man & a woman “otherwise God isn’t in the mix;” he refuses to be photographed with gay leaders or even supporters of gay rights (Newsome); he doesn’t attend gay parades; he doesn’t “do” interviews with gay media. He showed you who he was — y’all have NO ONE but yourselves to blame. And don’t expect your “noise” now to matter one wit because he knows (hell, even I know) that in 2012 you will vote for him again because he isn’t a Republican.

  13. Obama has listened to preachers like Warren for twenty years. When you sit in a pew and listen to the messages that come from such men and you don’t walk out and you don’t speak up against the message, it says more about you than it does the preacher.

  14. all I can say is Rick Warren sucks and so does Obama.

  15. Downticket:

The governor of Iowa is in the pocket of agribusiness?

    I’m shocked!

  16. Oh, the talking points. Oh, the pretzelification!

As he’s said again and again, the President-elect is committed to bringing together all sides of the faith discussion in search of common ground.

I defy anyone to give me one single instance in which Obama has done anything of the sort. “All sides?” I guess that means Christians, Christians and Christians.

Give me a f*cking break with this *ssh0le. I’m at work, it’s 1:10 pm, but I am in serious need of a drink right now.

  17. OMG Downticket — I just read that blithering tripe you found at WTH — you know the saying “ignorance is bliss”? The Obot who wrote that must be in nirvana. blech!

  18. hehe madamab, was just thinking a martini would go down rather nicely.

Said it before and Spammy ate it:

Rick Warren sucks and so does Obama.

Stupid Obamabots. We told you so.

  19. Angie, plenty of LGBT folk were against Obama. Many of us voted McCain/Palin and advocated on their behalf. Much like the bizarrely brain drained women’s community orgs, many LGBT orgs seem to have
mainlined kool-aide in dangerous amounts. It is truly mind boggling that either gay or women’s groups would not have seen through Obama and taken appropriate political action– but they sure as hell didn’t. It has always been the default in presidential elections for gays, feminists and other minorities
to hit democrat when confused. The dem party has historically been the party of social equality (yeah, whatever). I do have some compassion for these idiots (by my choice of the word “idiot” you can tell it’s not a lot). I don’t have much compassion for the orgs that pushed Obama. It was their duty, their mandate to research the jerk and know who he was. They failed miserably.
But yes, it is possible, and disgusting, disparringly possible that it will be vote for the s***heel in 2012 simply because he’s a dem.

  20. Downticket –

PE Obama is a genius to have picked Mr.Warren because he knows the guy is full of horse manure laced with hypocrisy and his faith base forum was a ridged John McCain setup that didn’t work.

Uh, then why is the genius rewarding the lying hypocrite who tried to set him up with a national audience of tens of millions?

Good Gawd in heaven, what is wrong with these people?

  21. and so fierce a supporter of gay rights is Obama that he completely skipped the gay political forum on PBS way way back last January when every other democratic candidate (yes, Hillary, too) attended. Obama and Mitt Romney did not attend.

But of course he hates gays — he hates women, right? Then why wouldn’t he hate men who have relationships with other men? And, boy, I bet he just HATES us lesbians. That must be really icky for him — except in his fantasies of being allowed to watch….

  22. McCain won 27% of the gay vote, up 4% from Kerry. Somebody was paying attention.

  23. angelasmith — I know there were very very members of the GLBT community who voted for McPalin & I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. I specifically addressed my post “To the idiotic members of the GLBT who voted for B0” You are right though; it seems the mainstream GLBT organizations have stopped advocating on behalf of the GLBT people the same way the women’s organization have stopped advocating on behalf of women. It seems to be all about the money for both.

  24. Downticket: good quote. The President-Elect would have to be extremely cynical or twisted to bestow the honor of delivering the invocation on a person whom he *supposedly* thinks is “full of horse manure” as some kind of petty revenge. Like angelasmith said, there’s no logic allowed.

And re the Organic Consumer’s Assoc. reaction to Vilsack — a couple of weeks ago, they sent out an e-newsletter congratulating themselves on their successful petition to Obama against Vilsack’s appointment. They must feel pretty stupid now. Suckers.

  25. angela smith said: “But yes, it is possible, and disgusting, disparringly possible that it will be vote for the s***heel in 2012 simply because he’s a dem.”

AND a man. don’t forget that part.

  26. angie – I think it’s money and cognitive dissonance. How could they not endorse the Democrat after eight years of Bush…and they remember Clinton and how much better things were under him in general (DADT being an exception)…and they were told over and over that Obama and Hillary were “the same on issues…” I think they just couldn’t bring themselves to admit what a travesty the Dem Party has become.

  27. Staunch, we’re in the double whammy position. Women who love women. Yikes. Bad time for us.

  28. angela smith said: “But yes, it is possible, and disgusting, disparringly possible that it will be vote for the s***heel in 2012 simply because he’s a dem.”

AND a man. don’t forget that part.

And as for being willing to give us equal civil rights: he has always defined that, from the beginning, even in the convention speech as “being allowed to visit each other in the hospital.”

Give me a break. The man is an ignorant asshole.

  29. jules – LOL! Suckas indeed.

    Obama doesn’t care about 20,000 signatures. Puh-LEEZ.

Like he said during the primaries, “Just get me the checks. I don’t care about the people.”

  30. “Rich Warren on “choice”:
” In his recent interview with Beliefnet, Warren also sparked outrage among supporters of abortion rights for criticizing those who have said abortion would be “safe and rare.”

“Don’t tell me it should be rare,” he said in the interview. “That’s like saying on the Holocaust, ‘Well, maybe we could save 20 percent of the Jewish people in Poland and Germany and get them out and we should be satisfied with that — I’m not satisfied with that. I want the Holocaust ended.”

I suspect Nancy Keenan of NARAL, who believes that abortion is a mortal sin, might agree.

  31. angie, I just don’t know what the hell is going on.
LGBT and women’s orgs totally forgetting who they are and who they represent. It’s just sad.

  32. Staunch,
the man is an ignorant asshole. Agreed.

  33. StaunchWoman, Angelasmith – but but but, Obama will grace you with his beneficence! He will smile upon you and all shall be rainbows and light! And lo, you shall become sorta kinda maybe 25% equal to straight people! How can you not be grateful for this opportunity!

    (sips more Kool-Aid)

  34. oh madamab…
lol. And it hurts to laugh.

  35. SHV – Rick Warren is saying that women who have abortions are equivalent to Hitler. Now, what happened to Godwin’s Law? Aren’t we supposed to not compare people to Hitler ever?

Oh, that’s right. He’s only talking about women.

    No problem.

Barkeep, where’s that drink? Make it a triple.

  36. jules, on December 18th, 2008 at 1:18 pm

20,000 signatures meant nothing to him.

  37. Some of the gay bloggers still mention their anger at Clinton and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. But some, like Sullivan, simply hated Hillary so much they would have supported just about anyone over her.

  38. madamab — Warren is not comparing people to Hitler — he is comparing women to Hitler. /s

    God save us.

  39. Because not having DADT would have been even peachier! Jesus, please tell me how life in the military would have been improved by DADT not existing. What did the Republicans really want to do instead?

  40. Downticket, yep, that’s the f’d up logic the obots use. I recall them spinning his FISA vote as a “clever” trick he was pulling on the right wing. Like Obama, his followers have not met an issue, or an ethic, they won’t discard at the drop of a hat.

  41. Okay, so women who’ve had abortions are the equivalent of Hitler? So I’m expecting that the Women’s Media Center (I’m thinking of you Jane Fonda, can you hear me Gloria Steinem?), planned parenthood, NARAL (oh Obama shills), NOW (national organization of weasels– no offense to real weasels)– they will all come bursting forward onto the scene
and decry Obama’s assaninity! Right? Right?
    Hello?

  42. Maybe I missed it, but has public reaction caused Obama to change his mind on anything?

    FISA -no

    Favreau – no

  43. Regency is right — and she is only 18 years old — gays now days living in the post-Will & Grace/ post — Queer As Folk world either don’t remember or do not know what the world was like for gay people when Bill became president — I do — and it wasn’t anything like it is now — and like it or not DADT had a lot to do with the positive changes since in that it brought the issue to the forefront & people could see how unjustly members of the GLBT were treated when they wanted to serve their country.

  44. Angie – too right!

Jmac – Oh yes, DADT, which Bill didn’t want but had to accept because Congress wouldn’t support what he really wanted. By all means, let’s excoriate Bill for that. I mean, he’s been President for the last 8 years, right? It’s not like anyone else could have stood up for LGBTs in that last 8 years, right?

Looks like the CDS sufferers got their Prince of Progressivism. Unfortunately, they’re not getting a pony for Christmas. All Obama’s giving them is a lump of “F*ck You” in their stockings.

    We told them so.

  45. myiq — you didn’t miss anything — public reaction doesn’t change B0’s mind on anything because he knows (and as the women & gays who voted proved) we have “no place else to go.”

  46. Who can be pissed off about don’t ask, don’t tell and be for Obama? Obama the *^&%$^%#$@%$^&%^%$#$%^%^&^%%$$$$#########@#@*** has already said he won’t push to change it.

Bill Clinton pushed as far as he could with the issue.
Don’t ask, don’t tell was a big ol improvement from what was.

  47. At Saddleback, Obama was asked about gay marriage. His response?

“As a Christian, I don’t support Gay marriage…but I can afford to give them some domestic partner rights…”

And here’s the kicker that clearly signals his true feelings about gay relationships:

“But with a man and a woman, God is in the mix.”

Gay relationships, apparently, do not have God’s blessing. People who cannot read between his very transparent lines are willfully ignorant. Couple that with his long-term relationships to Pfleger, Wright, Meeks et. al.–WTF did they expect?

  48. Obama will swing on any issue that there is. The problem it isn’t the public that makes him move. It is whatever the waters of political expediency dictate.
He moved on FISA to get the repub vote. That was a change– but not because of us folk. If you want to make the asswipe pivot, there has to be a political expediency at work. Find the point where you can affect him and hit him there.

  49. Marian Anderson is spinning in her grave, from the talking points, doesn’t this just smack of a less enlightened time:

…some of the world’s most gifted artists and people with broad appeal…

In other words, we will be amused by GLBT entertainers and don’t forget we are against AIDS too so STFU.

  50. DADT wasn’t what Bill wanted, but it was the best he could do when the Democratic party wouldn’t support him on lifting the ban on gays and lesbians in the military.

  51. Prolix:

Because they are naturally good singers and dancers, just like . . .um, . . . .nevermind

  52. How far from forcing women to bear children they don’t want is rape? IMO, it’s not that far. And it’s this pervasively degenerative mindset, reducing women to vessels and cardboard cut-outs, that we saw in the primary, throughout the general election and now solid proof that it will be a firm fixture of the Obama administration. Madamab, pass me the bottle!

  53. The term for those who voted for him is willful ignorance. There is no way in God’s green earth you couldn’t see the writing on the wall after McClurkin unless you you placed youyr hands over said eyes.

  54. (just popped away to frost cupcakes for my youngest son, who’s turning 3 tomorrow)

madamab: That quote via Rendell about the checks really sums that bastard up.

Obama doesn’t give a damn about public opinion, except as it might affect the votes that he cannot buy or steal. To him, 20K signatures are as insignificant as 19 million primary votes. And any outrage from the LGBT community on this latest f-you is met with the same self-praising, double-speak that Obama uses to reply to any criticism.

  55. Didn’t I read that one of BO’s pastor friends (Warren?) equates approval of gay marriage with bestiality, incest, and pedophelia?

    Medieval belief systems.

  56. gxm

They won’t be content until women dying in childbirth is the leading cause of death just like back in the good ol’ days. Unfortunately there are a whole bunch of women out there that seem to be ignoring a pattern of behavior and won’t believe us until they are unable to get birth control and are forced to give birth whether they want to or not.

  57. so Obama’s given the heave ho to environmentalists with the shafting of the Organic farmers. The heave ho to LGBT with the nutty religious dude. The heave ho to women with the nutty religious dude.
What will it take to awaken the sleeping beauties who voted for Obama? Already it was obvious that people were casting aside their most dear (so they said) beliefs to vote for the guy. What does it take?
Any hope of the media getting ahold of some smelling salts yet? Forget it.. Dumb question.

  58. MyIq,

And don’t forget they will be cooking many of the meals during the inauguration.

Even RW said he had eaten in gay homes and had lived to bray about it.

  59. sheesh, Myiq2xu, GMTL…. I just put my 2cents in on the same subject in the next thread …

there should be national outrage about this

  60. he’s pandering to the right because he know that most GLBT have no place to go but evangelicals do …

he’s just propping up bush’s base for himself

also, don’t forget that Warren is an outspoken opponent of women’s rights … this is also a slap in the face of WOMEN

  61. I think it was Rita Mae Brown who said “an army of lovers can not fail.” I guess this is just one hell of a long battle.

  62. While PEBO is in such expansive, inclusive inaugural mode, why not invite David Duke to sit on the presidential platform? Nominations for other heartwarming, inclusive invites are hereby solicited from my fellow Conflucians.

  63. OT, but this is just too good to wait. I told ya’ll that my fellow Upstate NYers would not respond well to the Kennedy “installation”:

Kennedy Takes A Beating From Upstate Media
Caroline Kennedy took a page from Hillary Clinton’s playbook and began an upstate listening tour On Wednesday.

The road trip included stops in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo to help convince Gov. David Paterson and voters she’s the one to replace Clinton in the U.S. Senate.

But it was a tough crowd.

    http://wcbstv.com/local/caroline.kennedy.us.2.889765.html

  64. fif

You just described the patriarchial religious system to a T.

    jules,

it’s ironic because many of these morons were gnashing their teeth over an ineffectual Congress sending sternly worded letters. The time for these groups to push would have been BEFORE his election. He figures our memories aren’t that long and he’s got 3 years and a couple of odd months before he’ll have to play a poor game of pretend again. I’m gonna predict we hear “don’t change horses midstream too as a reason to elect him” Anyone wanna bet me?

  65. Prolix – You brought up Marian Anderson! Oh, wow. What an amazing woman. Angie – Hall of Fame material – I’ll do the research on her.

Gxm17 – I’m happy to share. I brought enough for everyone.

    😉

The reason we don’t matter to Obama is we are not the ones who got him elected. It was the evangelicals that did that by staying home and not throwing their votes to McCain on Election Day. Had the GOP mobilized them the way they do every 4 years, McCain would have won.

Obama cannot afford to lose the rightwing evangelicals as constituents. He knows that in 4 years he is going to be as unpopular as Bush, perhaps more so. But he might be able to win re-election if enough evangelicals think he is Jeebus, just like they thought Bush was.

Sorry folks. Unless we all start speaking in tongues and ranting and raving about the EEEE-VILS of abortion and gay marriage, Obama will be turning a deaf ear to our pleas.

That’s why we are going to have to be very creative with the future of the PUMA movement…

  66. Angelasmith

Obama will have 30% core base that won’t be woken just like Our Dear Leader presently occupying the WH. Look at the contorting they did on FISA. They will be able to rationalize anything.

  67. Madamab,

Marian Anderson was indeed a most amazing human. I didn’t realize that she only passed in 1993 — what a wonderful life she led.

  68. Yes CWaltz, I think you’re right. I’m just hoping the contortionists get really nice Charley Horses and something can be done while they are stuck in pretzel form.

  69. myiq2xu, on December 18th, 2008 at 1:38 pm Said:

DADT wasn’t what Bill wanted, but it was the best he could do when the Democratic party wouldn’t support him on lifting the ban on gays and lesbians in the military.
    *************
Bill got into trouble with this because if ignorance. He made a well intentioned comment at a Harvard town hall, that he would end the “ban”. His assumption was that it was a similar situation to Truman ending segregation in the military by exec. order. The error was that it wasn’t illegal to be Black and the segregated military was by custom and not by law. Homosexuality was illegal in the military and a change in the UCMJ was needed. Only Congress can do that. Sam Nunn D-GA, Chm. of the Sen. Armed Forces Comm. and Colin Powell Chm. JCS totally sabotaged any effort to change the UCMJ. DADT was the best that Bill could get. Obama saying he would eliminate DADT..and then what.. go back to the old criminal penalties? Talk is cheap…the question to be asked is what is going to be the wording in the UCMJ re: Homosexuality and Homosexual behavior. A court won’t work because the UCMJ is, except in very rare cases, outside of usual judicial oversight. (IANAL)

  70. With the ban on gay marriage passing in California,
is there a case headed to the Supreme Court?
If this can get to the Supreme Court perhaps something very good will happen. The CA supreme court had upheld gay marriage rights. I don’t know much about the CA constitution, if it mirrors the
US close enough for the arguements to be on target for success for LGBT cause. Anyone know what’s going on there?

  71. CWaltz: I’m not taking that bet!

  72. My aunt and uncle – 60ish, liberal, normally very politically aware – still to this day believe McCain cheated at the Saddleback Forum. A couple of months after the debate Mom was trying to tell them what a con O was and all they could say was “McCain cheated. They said so on NBC.” At that point their eyes just glazed over and she could tell they were beyond listening. Then after listening to this exchange my other aunt says “Would you vote for him if he was white?” Instant racial inference as if my mom had not said a word. Mom just threw her arms up and walked out. They do not hear, they do not listen, they do not want to know.

  73. angelasmith:

The California challenge to Prop H8 is a technical one on amending the state constitution.

  74. myiq, no shit? Does that mean the broader issue of gay marriage rights can’t be appealed through the venue right now?

  75. CWaltz:

Even if you get them to face the truth they’ll always have the default position – “The Republicans are worse!”

  76. angela:

The California SC said a ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional.

Prop H8 was an initiative to amend the state constitution.

The issue is whether it can be amended by 52% of the voters or if 2/3 are needed.

  77. thanks for the info myiq.

  78. BO’s a fierce advocate for women too! that’s why so many have been handpicked for his administration. the gay folks should have been listening to us. too late to say “sorry.”

as i posted in a newer thread, the good rev. warren was chosen for the inaugueration since the good rev. wright was “busy.”

  79. fif, Does Cuomo want the NY Senate seat too? I’d rathe rhe get it than Queen Caroline.

(Reminds me of my 7yo’s song from school:

    Clean Queen Caroline
    Washed her hair with turpentine
    Turpentine, turpentine
    Made it shine
    Clean Queen Caroline)

  80. GAgal, The obots really bought into the “if he were white” attack. (As if he isn’t biracial and wasn’t raised by his mother’s family.) IMO, it’s an indication of their narrow minds. It’s like any cult. They are better than the rest of us because they voted for the “black guy.” As if the rest of us only ever vote for white people. It’s absurd but it’s the rock ObamaNation was built on.

  81. The media is spinning Obama’s choice of Warren to give the inaugural invocation (and tell me again, why do we need a prayer at the installation of a new president?) as a shrewd political move–an appeal to “moderate” evangelicals as a way to peel away their support from the Republican party. Rick Warren manages to avoid the hardcore reputation of the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons of fundamentalism while entertaining exactly the same intolerant, anti-intellectual beliefs. Somehow Warren has managed to portray himself as the Dr. Phil of fundies and lots of nice moderate Protestant folks have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.

One of the first things that struck me as dishonest about Obama was his faux Christianity. Obama grew up in entirely secular households and embraced Christianity only after arriving in Chicago by joining the most politically activist black church in town in order to launch a political career. Believing that he was “born-again” is like believing he came out of the Chicago political brothel as a virgin.

Is there anything about this man that is not a fraud? (And why, despite all evidence to the contrary, can’t I convince my SO of Obama’s pathological dishonesty? ARGHHH!)

  82. SHV:

Colin Powell endorsed Obama, didn’t he?

  83. Those talking points!
the part about bringing together all parts of the discussion is the most insulting. What all parts? The fanatic bigots and the normal people?
That’s like saying that the media should publish the truth and the lies. or that schools should teach creationism next to evolution. Sheesh!

  84. Also, whre are the outraged Women’s right’s Org. response? Rev. Rick is an equal opportunity hater.

  85. votermon at 12:59, I just saw you comment.

  86. I’m afraid to go over to Gary’s site. I’m afraid he will have had a stroke but guess we need to check on him.

  87. I went to check. Gary is alive and pissed off !
