This account is number one of a series that we hope to bring you with the help of Michele Thomas of 300 Delegates. These are first hand accounts of what happened in the lead up and during the Democratic National Convention in 2008. We hope to present new ones right up to the eve of the election.
Note to the media: Here was a real story for you. What happened during the convention should go down in history as one of the most infamous abuses of the primary voting system. But we in the blogosphere have heard precious little media coverage of the story. In an election year when the Democrats had everything going for them, the reason for their inevitable loss isn’t the fault of Hillary’s dogged refusal to leave the race, nor the entry of Sarah Palin, though both of those two events, both entirely reasonable, were contributing factors. The primary reason why Barack Obama is going to lose is because he burned his bridges during the primary caucuses and during the largest caucus of all- the convention. The media should be aware that these are not the days of falling trees, forests and no ears. In the era of the Internet, the ability to get the truth out has a much lower threshhold barrier. First hand accounts are always the most valuable. When the narrative of the first hand account clashes with consensus reality, it is the consensus reality that starts to break down. The media becomes progressively less trustworthy. Hey, it’s your livelihood, not ours. We do this for free. Just sayin’.
Without further ado, here is the first hand account of sbc, a delegate from Portland, Oregon:
****************************
Thoughts on the Denver Sham(e) by We the Sheeple
I was SO looking forward to this Convention. Staying in a hotel w/ Arizona and Washington, my two former home states, I knew many of their delegates and wanted to reconnect. Many of us were Wes Clark delegates and recalled how welcome we felt by the Kerry/Edwards people in Boston in 2004.
But there was this strange undertone when talking to some fellow delegates. A furrowed brow or quizzical look. “Hillary lost. Don’t you ‘get’ it?” I was repeatedly asked when I was going to “let go” or “get in line.” After being berated on the streets of Denver for wearing my HRC T-shirt on Saturday, I was loaded for bear. Don’t tell me how Obama is better than McCain. My DOG is better than McCain!
Tell me what is it about Obama that is supposed to impress me. His health care plan that leaves 15 million people still uninsured? How’s he going to pay for it? Rolling back my tax break? That’s going to pay the $60 billion plus health care price tag? Well, we really don’t know if it’s $60 or $70 billion. His policy peeps can’ t seem to come up with a figure. Or will that be covered by the AMT redo? Or will THAT money go to shoring up Social Security? Or infrastructure? Or cancer research? You know – his mother died of breast cancer while fighting those dastardly insurance companies. (Will the trite People Magazine personal anecdotes never cease!)
Or is it his strong stand on filibustering any legislation that let telco’s off the hook for illegal wiretaps that inspired you? Is that what he stands for? Oh wait. His FISA vote? Did he do that while scratching his head and asking “What’s a filibuster?”
And he’s going to reform our broken educational system with what? Vouchers? Or even MORE faith based initiatives than Bush dreamed of – to the tune of $500 million a year? Why not! Obama’s Chicago Trinity United Church of Christ already pocketed $1.5 million in such programs. And did anybody take note of the fact that Obama’s “community organizing” was done thru a church group? This gets creepier by the talking point.
I guess I couldn’t recite Sen. Clinton’s policies chapter and verse either. But I knew her RECORD. She actually HAD a record. What we thought we knew of Obama’s record seems tossed aside for the sake of political expediency. Gun control? Death penalty? Um…where does he stand today? Thursday? How about next Thursday? Please – someone tell me?
So here we are. Once again adrift and bereft of any substantive leadership in the Democratic Party.
As a delegate, I kinda knew the “roll call” was going to be theater of the absurd. I just didn’t think it would be that absurd. The thing that broke my heart? The text message from my sister who lives in NJ. We were never a politically active family. We were god-fearing daughters of a staunch Republican father but voting was never a required activity. I convinced her it was important in 2004. She’s a nurse. She has three (gorgeous) kids. She’s seen health care at its worst and deals with it everyday.
Last February, she bundled up her 3 year-old daughter and her 1 year old twin sons and put them in the stroller for the short walk to the courthouse to vote. The Baby Girl (she does have a name but we call her the Baby Girl) proudly wore her Hillary t-shirt and her “I Can Be President” button and the polling place workers let her keep the button on. My sister was thrilled that NJ came down on the right side of history in her primary. My mother, an 80 year-old Japanese woman who was always proud of her country when she became a naturalized US citizen, thought she would be able to see a woman become president in her lifetime. When Gov. Corzine cast their 127 delegate vote for Barack Obama in Denver, my sister furiously sent a text: WTF! My vote doesn’t count?
How am I supposed to defend a system that’s broken? What civics lesson do I teach the Baby Girl the next time we walk past the courthouse where she went with her mom and her brothers to vote? The courthouse is white. The Baby Girl thinks THAT’S the White House and that’s where Hillary lives. Do I tell her that there are still men out there who will try to hold her back, who will call her names and will tell her that she is “less than?” Do I explain she will have to fight harder than ever because we couldn’t get it done?
I am all outta love with the hope ‘n change mantra. Give me facts. Give me substance. Tell me how he’s going to get troops out of Iraq. Immediately or after listening to the ground commanders? And if the ground commanders say “don’t blink,” will he listen to them or get new commanders? And can he PLEASE come up with a REAL stimulus package? One that actually stimulates the economy. Not one that send checks out so that people can pay off their credit card debt. A jobs growth program that can carry us into the next decade, taking into consideration a truly global economy and an undeniable manufacturing dilemma? And what about a small business plan? THAT would show true initiative when it comes to women since women start small businesses at twice the rate of the weaker sex. An actual PLAN, please, hold the rhetoric.
This weekend, I’m headed to do some serious diving/sailing in Hawaii, where the messiah went to high school. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of Obama swag at the airport and on street corners. Maybe a left over Hillary nut-cracker or two. I’ll swim with real sharks. Not the poseurs we are now left with in this political hell hole.
Apparently, BHO has recently taken a stand on what IS off limits. Palin’s daughter and sexist comments about Palin herself are off limits. It’s a sham(e) that he couldn’t take such a bold stand when Chelsea was being “pimped out” or when Sen. Clinton was being told “iron my shirt.” Or when Tucker Carlson said he crosses his legs whenever he hears Hillary’s voice or when Alex Castellanos called a fellow Democratic senator a “white bitch.” The anointed leader of this progressive party sat and didn’t say a word. That would have taken real leadership and true leadership sometimes means taking a principled yet unpopular stand. What would he have lost? The nomination? No – but he might have gotten my vote. sbc

EXCELLENT. Testify, my sisters (and brothers, natch)!
Amen. I look forward to many of these firsthand accounts of delegates.
BTW, FOX is wanting to do a series on this, supposedly. I saw a comment on another blog that they are asking voters to send their stories to voterfraud@fox.com
Anyone else hear this? Is this legit?
Great post .. thank you so much …. he wont get my vote either !
Keith Olbermann and Chris Mathews demoted!!
What a week this has been!!
McCain-Palin ’08
Hillary ’12
Excellent — This is very moving.
Thanks for telling your story sbc. And thanks for posting it, Riverdaughter.
Why? Why? Why didn’t the listen to us???
McCain Pulls Ahead in Gallup
September 07, 2008 9:41 PM
Not the daily tracking poll, the actual Gallup poll, has Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., pulling ahead of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
The numbers among registered voters are 50 percent to 46 percent — and 54 percent to 44 percent among likely voters.
Obama’s campaign always said before the American people made their final decision about him, the Democrat would be judged on three things — the VP pick, the convention, and the debates. Now two of the three have gone down, and the American people have liked McCain’s stuff better.
(sound of eyes bugging out of head)
TEN POINTS among likely voters?!
Oh frabjous day!!!!!!!!
(Although, you know? It’s not a great day when you’re actually praying like heck the Dem candidate is going to lose….)
But! We just may get our Party back at this rate…
Read and weep.
Interesting.
I am with KB and BB. (previous thread)…what if…what to do in November?
and what is it with all those terrible, horrible polls? oh my.
Anecdotal. Today had lunch with in laws. Mother in law (who normally does not discuss politics with us…she is a R and we are not) was pissed as hell over the Palin family/ability to do her job thingy….
She went on about how she had raised six kids on her own and worked (wife’s father died of a heart attack when she was two) and does not understand why women are treated that way by the media/society….She was on fire.
This from someone who was not poltically energized at all a few weeks ago. ay, ay, ay…now what D party?
NYT confirms – Tweety and KO ousted from anchoring the election. They will be on as analysts, but the anchor spot goes to Gregory.
Joanie!
I lost the text with that email address…
NYT story on Matthews and Olbermann being dropped from election coverage:
Hahahahahahaha!
NY Daily News thinks Olbermann should be dropped from Monday NBC Sun. night football show.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/2008/09/06/2008-09-06_no_place_for_partisan_keith_olbermann_on.html
Good Gq, I’ll try to give a heads up to bro.
How do they determine ‘likely voter’? something like last three primary votes out of five?
There are two ways I would surely vote for McCain/Palin.
The first, if it looks like Obama could win Kansas — I would have to vote for McCain to stop THAT from happening.
The second? If it looked like McCain was going to win in a Huge landslide. I would vote for McCain just to stick my thumb in Obama’s eye and make it an even BIGGER loss.
Oh, and the third would be for spite.
(I’m undecided, but I like thinking about the various election-day possibilities. I’ve never been an undecided/Independent. So, I’m trying to enjoy it)
GQ, Oops just saw you lost it. Will send again………..
I am so depressed about this election!! I can never vote for Teh Precious yet I can’t help but be concerned that all those executive department jobs will be going to Republicans when the McCain/Palin ticket wins in November. So, we will still be fighting (with Hillary’s help) an HHS Secy who can decide that birth control methods are really abortifacients. I’m not as worried about the SC but it really bothers me that all the cabinet secy’s will be Rethugs!!
Keep enjoying it, Katiebird. We have the power this time. We don’t have to just hold our noses.
Not sure all the cab WILL be Republicans
And ain’t it fun, BB. It almost makes up for all the friends (and siblings) I’ve lost this year.
(Waving thankfully at Joaniebonie)
The GOP won’t stand for KO/Matthews crap like the Dems did. Not surprised if this story turns out to be true.
The NYT story (linked above) about MSNBC is hilarious.
gq,
It’s true all right. Read the story. The news people at NBC couldn’t take it anymore.
They are heartbroken over at the Cheeto.
Bb, for some reason my Blackberry doesn’t follow links from Confluence comments. Every other site I visit regularly is fine. Maybe its a wordpress thing.
gq,
If you open the NYT site, the story is right at the top.
Charles,
Not only that, but Meteor Blades posted a half-hearted effort to convince them to stop the sexist attacks on Palin. Like that would ever happen, LOL!
They’re all up in arms at DU too: “Aren’t we all to the point where we realize that left-wing bias equates to understanding and conveying the desperate need to regain and fix the entire nation and the Constitution itself?”
Uh…..no.
So glad we are going to get to hear first hand accounts from the delegates.
Lots going on. Happy to hear about the polls. Awesome picture of Colorado Springs.
My anecdotal piece – I was out of town seeing family this weekend. My 80 year old Mother and 85 year old uncle, neither of whom have EVER voted Republican, are LOVING Sarah Palin. They are so looking forward to voting for her. They say they will be laughing at NObama all the way out of their voting booths!
The DNC has to be destroyed and rebuilt with someone like Harold Ford at its head, and Hillary as its symbol, its promise.
You know, I remember watching the Republican primary, and John McCain was so out of money that he was taking commercial flights and carrying his own bags through airports. He has never been the Republican’s favorite son, but the RNC left him alone. They didn’t scream for him to get out of the race, they didn’t game any of the primaries, even later when it became apparent that he was gaining ground and winning primaries.
I refuse to let the corrupt DNC decide who will be my President. It’s really as simple as that.
The USA Today poll (thank you, Mr O and Uncle Joe!) is here, but the release date is tomorrow…
http://www.pollingreport.com/wh08gen.htm
ugsome @ 10:45, that quote says it all. Because what it is really saying is
“Isn’t despotism and lies and slanted media okay, so long as it is OUR despotism, and for a good cause?”
No, my dear little thuggish juvenile delinquents. No, in fact, it is not okay.
MSNBC, the Unhinged Network, has finally come to its senses and more or less “demoted” KO and Tweetie? Don’t think so. They must have done it under pressure from the powers that be since we have all at one time expressed our own outrage of the biased coverage and the sexism displayed nightly during the primary season.
Tweetie’s contract is up at the end of the year and it is doubtful it will be renewed. They just canceled Dan Abrams and replaced him with the female counterpart to KO in Rachel Maddow. KO just got too big for his oversized pants and the fact that he felt “threatened” by going to Denver shows how much contempt the public at large has for him.
The move was made for business reasons and not because these two shills were offending the electorate. It would be nice to think otherwise but the truth is the corporate heads make the decisions, not us.
Join me tonight for a special late sunday edition of “My Two Cents Radio Show”
For the first time Clintons4McCain’s Christi Ackins will have a interview and discuss the Democratic primary season, RBC meeting, DNC Convention, phony roll-call vote, McCain’s VP pick, RNC Convention, McCain/Palin’s speeches, polls, Democrats for McCain/Palin, and so much more!!!
Join me[Matt], phillip, and momma e Tonight at 11PM ET.. call-in 347-202-0443…

Harold Ford is a horrible person to represent the DNC. Nothing against him personally, but his views are not representative of his/my generation, even the conservative younger people I know are more liberal than Ford.
Still nice to know that bloviating blowhard KO was bad for business.
I’m even surprised by the recent Gallup poll. I had a feeling McCain would pull slightly ahead of Obama after Palin’s speech at the convention but not by that much so soon.
Katiebird: I am LOVING my new life as an Independent. I can piss on left, right and center and they still have to be nice to me to get my vote 🙂
Apparently that McCain +10 poll has been posted…
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-09-07-poll_N.htm
I very much enjoyed Capt. Howdy’s piece. Thanks Charles.
Charles: I’m already there. My interest is about 1/5 what it was.
I guess rachel maddow’s ass-kissing paid off (from the NY times article)
Charles, this has happened to me after every election since 1972. EVERY election. What you do is take the day after the election off. And plan a lunch with carefully chosen friends. So that you can either celebrate (rarely) or cry together.
That takes care of one day. And that’s usually the worst one.
This year is going to be weird though. Since I’m not actually FOR anyone. At least yet.
That article says they’re not going to be anchoring, but still “contributing.”
I’m not overly concerned about Maddow. MSNBC is a failed network that constantly changes its programming. Ask Tucker Carlson, Phil Donahue, Alan Keyes, Deborah Norville…
I am glad they are no longer on the air.
You all know it will eventually be up to Hillary to stop Sarah Palin from becoming president.
Ben: I think she’s got that covered.
holy crap, Indianapolis is getting owned by Chicago right now. This is awesome.
Sorry all, my regular NFL board is down at the moment! 🙂
I know that polls will change and all that between now and November….
my question though is…what happenes when/if people(like me/wife) who have never ever voted R in their lives vote for Mc/P this year…yikes.
Talk about major overahaul of the DNC.
Charles, I love the Pats & am SO upset about Brady.. As if the Super Bowl loss wasn’t bad enough… what a shame.
I saw Hillary today. She is only talking policy. And, then she ends with No …………………McCain/Palin.
She is very happy. I can tell.
Bill is going to tell BO to man up you weak pathetic piece of shit. How do you think everyone is going to act that he pissed off half a billion dollars plus and could not win.
Punishment, Retribution and Reform 2008
McCain/Palin 2009 if you don’t give us Hillary back!
PUMA HAKA 👿
UpstateNY,
Don’t you know? People like us don’t exist.
There really is a New England sports curse. Oh no, Addai got hurt too but it doesn’t seem that bad. Just as a fan of the game I hate to see any great player get hurt even if I don’t like the team.
Also, I wonder what O’Reilly’s Obama interview is going to do.. and the debates. Obama seems to be gettiing worse when he goes off script..
I’m voting McCain / Palin. Palin was a fantastic decision. I agree with her on religion, reform, guns, and keeping the baby. Now, if she will come out strong for securing the borders and prosecuting employers of illegal aliens, I’ll be in seventh heaven!
I am also voting for every Republican who opposes an Obama supporter. Starting with Eddie Adams Jr who is running against Castor in Tampa. Castor was put on special committees as a freshman by Pelosi and so she supported Obama, even though he didn’t win Florida. It all started years ago.
UpstateNY – it will be one of the happiest days of your life seeing BO MO and the kiddies driving back to Chicago in their minivan with no SS, no cocktail parties, no WH, no future…………….
Bet ya Oprah invites them on for an interview. The end of all of the pieces of shit.
Add Wexler, Oprah, Fowler, Alice…………..all of them to the list.
Payday is coming!
I forgot, kb. heh
A tale from Iowa…
Hubby’s brother stopped the day after Palin’s acceptance speech. BIL is pretty much a Democrat, union member and all. The first thing he said after he walked in the door was, “Well, how do you like the next vice-president?”
This is small-town America. Palin plays well here. “God damn America” does not. It’s a shame we didn’t know about that one before the caucuses. You and I probably wouldn’t be here now if we had.
Lizgranny,
I’m pretty sure you’re at the wrong place. If you post again expect to join your friends in the filter….
Carol, you are my favorite devil.
Here’s the problem they have, if Obama starts dropping in the polls, they will all start running for the hills. They don’t know what it’s like to be behind. They’ve always had it easy.
I just attempted to get onto Talk Left but the server is down.
Does this perhaps mean that Jeralyn has finally “scrubbed herself”?
katiebird – I talked to my sister in central Kansas today. Last time we talked about the general election she was undecided. She thought she might vote for a Democrat for the first time in her life. She has now decided she will vote Republican as usual because she likes Sarah.
When I told her I would be voting Republican for the first time in my life we realized that it will be the first time ever (more than 40 years) that we would not be cancelling each other out.
Life sure is funny sometimes.
I do like Chicago and also Jacksonville, they were an interesting team last year. Don’t get too many of their games in my market though, have to go to a bar and try not to spend too much while I’m there.
gary and Mawm have even offered to drive the Obama’s back to Chicago in the PUMA mobile free of charge in November!!
Great guys!
Three of us sat together in a bar on Saturday night:
One of us was a Republican, the other a Kool Ade drinking obot, and me, a self-described BITTER HILLARY DEAD ENDER.
That’s what I call myself now.
Pat I was reading TL and all of the sudden the sever went down….probably repairs or something. I hope to be able to keep reading BTD.
Katiebird- I’ve posted here before. I maxed out for Hillary before June and I made 1500 phone calls for Hillary from my home to 9 states. Just because I like Palin is no reason to put me in time out.
Pat, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeralyn didn’t trash her database with all those deleted accounts. There was something funny about the process. It was keeping a remnant of our accounts in a password file for one thing.
But all day the count on comments was off. You could really tell on new-ish threads. It would say, 4 comments. But there would be 8 comments there. Or whatever.
She’s down? Good. I wonder how many of her newly banned commenters chipped in for the server?
Pat:
Apparently the TL server is clogged with bullsh*t
Dee — that actually doesn’t surprise me. I had the feeling last spring that Hillary could’ve won in Kansas. No way Obama will, though.
It certainly took MSNBC long enough to get the message and to relegate Olberman and Matthews to a back seat.
I can’t believe that after almost 8 years of the Republican fiasco I’m considering voting for one.
Mountain Sage
Once he’s not a Kool-Kid anymore, then what’s he got to sell?
katiebird:
Obama won’t win one of his home states?
Let’s see, Hawaii (where he was born) Kansas (where he learned his values) Illinois (where he organized communities) Alabama where his parents met a couple years after he was born)
How many more home states does he have?

MyIQ — Laughing!!!
Can we talk about it at The NEW Thread?
The first thing to do after Obama gets his walking papers is to move the DNC out of Chicago. What were they thinking going along with that? Only known as the most politically corrupt city in the US for decades, and they move us there!
Shit! How did I double klutz?
MS:
The MSNBC convention coverage resembled Jerry Springer
My DD is going nuts with this new poll! Here’s my favorite rationalization for the big gap with likely voters:
“A Likely Voter has to be over 26, however, keep that in mind.”
What you do is take the day after the election off. And plan a lunch with carefully chosen friends. So that you can either celebrate (rarely) or cry together.
My BF and Sis Katie, (blowing a kiss thankfully at you)
Whether I’m FOR anyone or not, I will undoubtedly have the greatest emotional investment ever in this outcome. I will be a wreck election night.
In 2004, what got me the through the next-day grief was Air America. Well, that ain’t gonna happen this time.
GQ, should we grab Jen and a few other Seattle PUMAS for lunch the day after?
Oh, sorry. I forgot that only members of the chosen inner circle could post here. The rest of us are just supposed to read what the chosen ones have to say.
Dee–you posted in the other thread about Obama saying on George S. Mccain never talks about his faith? Was there any additional context to what he was saying, or was Obama once again just going straight from the Republican playbook?
“Alabama where his parents met a couple years after he was born)”
heh. btw, I enjoyed your comments at TL. Thanks for speaking up, even when warned to stop.
Seriously, can we talk at the new thread?
I was an emotional wreck for weeks after the 2000 election. This year I was so “up” thinking that Hillary would be the nominee and eventual winner that I honestly believe my emotions have now become almost numb. The only emotion I will be able to rouse will be an Obama win which will send me into a terrible funk. A McCain win will merely be a blip on my satisfaction meter. A tiny little blip.
I hopped over to the Cheeto to see how heartbroken they are. One poster is keeping the pale Cheetos in line by lecturing them on racism. Once again sexism goes by the wayside.
In my view NEITHER can be excused, EVER. We could have advanced TOGETHER, but nooo, Obama had to establish his creds with sexism. Hillary and Obama could’ve been a juggernaut, smashing every glass ceiling every which way to Tuesday and busting the door wide open for America, but no. Obama is too small a man to see that.
Pat – “weeks????????????” I’m up to 7 years 10 months of unhappiness over 2000.
But, my new best friend Piper assured me things are coming up roses!
I trust Piper. Piper is down with it.
Seriously – Either Obama misspoke or he actually is muslim. Obama said that “McCain never refers to my muslim faith”.
Frankly, I think it is hard to make a mistake when referring to your personal faith. Obama definitely self-identified as a muslim today.
Piper is the cutest kid! But Eddy does not like kids. Send him back!
If I’m in the area, joanie, I’m in.
Pat – I didn’t want to tell you but, Eddy, Ryan, Piper and I are now just one big happy family.!
Ohh, sorry, Dee. I was confused, I thought Obama said Mccain never refers to McCain’s own faith.
Carol: Here it comes…..&*&**&^%^%!!!!!!!! (*(*()(*&^^%!!!!!!!!
And that goes double for Piper.
My mother’s hobby was politics and I grew up in it. She
came to California after college and joined the Young Republicans.
What made her switch was meeting Richard Nixon who was
running against Helen Gahagan Douglas. My mother was repulsed
by young Dick but fascinated by Douglas. She has been a Democrat
ever since. As I told Hillary when I had a few “private moments” with her,
she is our favorite candidate ever and my mother just has to
vote for her so she is writing her name in. This was when Hillary’s
lawyers were still negotiating with the fascist Obama faction to
have her name on the ballot–I mean what part of the former Soviet
Union do they represent, even Chicago has to be more fair, although
I read that the only politician to stand up to that corrupt machine
was a Rep. Senator who had to move out-of- state.
Anyway, I called my mother who doesn’t know how to use the internet
but is a TV-political news junkie…she figured out that it wasn’t sexism
that was doing in Hillary, it was Wall St. money). When I mentioned
Palin (pre-intro speech), my mother gushed, “I am SO proud of
her.”
With continued media trashing, more mothers of America will
unite.
*****BREAKING NEWS *****
Official Statement From the Obama Campaign
“Funny how things change, ins’t it? I guess we finally lost the rhythm. Ahahaha!”
“The Thrill Is Gone”

BOOYAH!!
McCain-Palin ’08
Hillary ’12
My vote, along with 70% of other votes cast in our Dem Primary didn’t count either. I am outraged, again, still!
HaHa ben @ 11:14
Running for the Hills. They’re already running for “the Hills”. I’m sending them a note saying she has pink-eye and can’t come. Signing it Dorothy Rodham.
I live in Mass. and we voted for Hillary by a large margin. But in the convention roll call, it was flipped and Obama got the state by the same large margin. What a crock.
New Hampshire was an even bigger crock. New Hampshire was the first primary and Hillary won it, so the 2008 New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary was the first presidential contest won by a woman. That is rather significant and should have been put on the record in a real roll call vote.
I live on the NH border, and I have many New Hampshire resident friends, mostly women. New Hampshire delegates gave all their votes to Obama. In January, 112,404 people went to the polls in the freezing cold to vote for Hillary Clinton. 112,404 people went to the polls to show the media that contrary to media speculation, Hillary was not out of the race just because they and Iowa said so. Many of those people were elderly voters and working mothers, who were probably tired but still went to the polls and put Hillary over the top. But then seven months later at the convention, the delegates those 112,404 people elected with a mission said that those 112,404 people didn’t matter? There is something seriously wrong with that.
After the roll call I got a lot of ticked off texts and phone calls from many of those NH friends (knowing I’m a political buff and have worked in the field, they chose to vent to me and ask me what the heck happened. lol). I didn’t know what to tell them. I have female family members who cried a little. Many of those NH friends were even angrier than when Hillary lost the nomination. They were angry not because their candidate lost (they’d come to terms with that) but because they were told that their votes didn’t matter. Talk about voter disenfranchisement!
I think this group should start a movement to change the Democratic nominating system. I’m completely serious. We need a system that is simple, honest, and representative of the voters. No superdelegates. Pledged delegates are pledged and belong to the voters, not the candidate, so they cannot be released by pressuring (or blackmailing) the candidate to do so. No caucuses. Primaries only. Secret ballot, no pressure or bullying. One person, one vote. Just like in a general election. And at the convention, the roll call reflects the votes cast, regardless of the “narrative.” No exception, no giving away delegates for unity, no betraying the voters. Does anyone else agree?
McCain has taken the lead in the Gallup poll today for the first time. Guess that “unity pony” has a bum leg.
Also, in polls where Hillary is still being hypothetically matched up against McCain, she is still beating McCain. And Obama is now behind him.
Three months after dropping out of the race, Hillary is still beating both McCain and Obama in hypothetical polls. And Obama is no longer beating McCain in real polls.
Donna Brazile and Howard Dean are morons. If Obama loses this thing, let’s all pitch in and buy Brazile and Dean tickets on a nice long cruise for 2012.
Heh. yeah, there’s going to be no escape from these numbers before long. God. I will die of schadenfreude the day the door hits Donna on the way out.
Too bad she’s taken the whole country with her, though.
Wonderful post, SBC.I am crying over what you wrote. Heart breaking. This should be a wake up for every woman regardless of party affiliation, especially the kool aide swilling BO backers.Wake up women!
