The summer smiles, the summer knows,
and unashamed, she sheds her clothes.
The summer smoothes the restless sky,
And lovingly she warms the sand on which you lie.
The summer knows, the summer’s wise,
she sees the doubts within your eyes,
And so she takes her summertime,
tells the moon to wait and the sun to linger,
Twist the world around her summer finger.
Lets you see the wonder of it all,
And if you learned your lesson well,
There’s little more for her to tell,
One last caress, it’s time to dress for fall.
I’m at the shore. Or do they call it the beach in Delaware? Anyway, it’s hot and muggy here. Yesss! Tonight we are having lasagna, Caesar salad and sangria. The condo is a little more crowded than I thought it would be but after 24 hours, no one has killed anyone yet, so that’s good.
I haven’t been paying attention to the news lately except for the fact that the right has taken to the fainting couch over Obama’s more forceful attitude. He’s going to have to get a lot more forceful and develop a very thick skin. It’s kinda late in his term to be doing this. Maybe too late. Ok, too late for me and the other millions of unemployed. Nevertheless, righteous indignation is the way to go, not that anyone is going to buy it after he gave in to the movement conservatives. Damn, I tried to say something nice and it just never comes out right.
{{sigh}}
Anyway, I’m just relaxing here and trying not to think about how soon the checks will run out and how big my COBRA payment is going to be. It’s going to be big. It’s so big it’s scary. Nightmare scary. I know what you’re thinking. Better write that bestseller I’ve been putting off for awhile.
When the going gets tough, the tough turn to science fiction and fantasy. The HBO series, The Game of Thrones, just finished its first season recently. If you have a friend who recorded it on his/her DVR, make sure you catch it. Although the ending is so good it will send chills up your spine, the first couple of episodes were a little confusing. George R. R. Martin’s book upon which the series is based, has a very rich and complex setting and an almost Dickensian list of characters each with their own character development arcs and plot lines.
Early on in the series, I discovered a YouTube channel featuring two guys, Ben de Bono and Matt Anderson, to help me navigate the world of Westeros where the series is set. They host a podcast called TheSciFiChristian. In spite of the name, Ben and Matt are not what you think. They have a very informed and entertaining podcast on all things SciFi and the two of them play off each other well. Their philosophical discussion on the theology of C.S. Lewis vs. Tolkien, an epic smackdown if ever there was one, is a thing of beauty. Don’t let the religion scare you away. Check them out and see if you agree. And if you’re not unemployed, send them a donation. uSpread the wealth and it will multiply. It’s good for the economy.
So, what are you doing this summer and what song says summer to you?
This is an open thread.
