Obama Ditches Tax Cut Presser After Bill Clinton Takes Control

Former President Bill Clinton gave a statement after his meeting with President Obama about his tax compromise with the Republicans.

However, after his statement, Clinton began to call on and take questions from the press with Obama at his side. Obama promptly after a few moments and said he had to see Michelle, as he was keeping her “waiting.”

“I don’t want to make her mad, please go,” Clinton told Obama.

Business Insider:

It was a terrible visual to begin with — I’m not a wussy, here’s Bill Clinton to tell you why! — that just got so. much. worse.

This is priceless – the best part is when Obama gives up and leaves.(9:30)

1. The entire NATION is waiting to hear the POTUS outline solutions to our woes, but ME-chelle can’t wait a half an hour?

2. That is absolutely priceless.

3. It’s like when the hotter woman walks into the room.

4. The petulance of the little twerp is astounding.

5. It was nice to see my president at the podium. Not the Asshat.

Asshat.

Hillary 2012

6. I’m still spittin’ mad about the “payroll tax relief” part of this bill… they will never get that cash flow back and I seriously doubt they will just raise the cap to compensate for the loss of funds…

Don’t agree with Bill here on that one.

I really was hoping he would ease my mind.

• Even Big Dawg can’t polish this turd.

• But he got a very important message through the screen: Republicans are going to screw us over good when they take office in January.
The other message was the rich aren’t paying their fair share.
Then that asshole from Fox started talking over him.
Clinton is showing Obama how it’s done and what does the light bringer do? He takes off for some tricking Christmas party while the big dawg does his job for him.
If I were Obama, those are not the optics I would like to have out there.

• I know that’s what I got from this and the unbelievable thing was him leaving because he had a party to go to ,after president Clinton flew in for this!! obama just proved how totally clueless he is!!

It was so good to see this wonderful President Clinton shine!!

• I kept thinking, “let Daddy do it” when O had to run out of the room…

big untalented baby

• And I love how Bill responded when he said, if you gotta go then ahead and go..

• it occurs to me that maybe Obama ordered Bill to answer exactly X number of questions and when Bill went over (as he is always apt to do)… O got mad and walked out…

that business where he crosses his arms right before he leaves is telling…

that and he can’t stand not to be the center of attention.

• Bill to BO: “First of all, I feel awkward being here and now you’re gonna leave me all by myself.”

Unfu&%king believable!

7. It was good to see Bill on the presidential podium again but shame on him for carrying water for Obama.

• There it is!

• Honk! I love Bill but some things are just wrong.

• Bill Clinton is a real politician. He knew exactly what he was doing and how it would play.

A picture is worth a thousand words. It speaks loud and clear to those far and near– the current POTUS is weak and over his head.

8. get him away from Bill Clinton, he’s not worthy!

9. What I’m praying is that this is a prelude to the 2012 election — Obama obiously doesn’t like the work entailed with being POTUS, only the perks, so he’ll just hand the nomination over to someone else and walk away, just like he did today. Think about it — now, with one term, he will always be called “President,” he can make a ton of money giving lectures (which he loves to do because that makes him feel so superior) and not have to actually be “responsible” for anything. Sure, he’d lose the use of Air Force One, but I’m sure he’ll be able to afford his own private jet, or have Jay Z’s at his disposal.

10. I’m wondering if what we’re seeing here is not a kind of kinder, gentler coup d’etat? Let’s hope the real Democrats are moving to take the party back while there are at least a few shreds of it left…

And of course Big Dawg won’t openly oppose O’s plan(s), but I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least some tweaking (like raising the cap) put forward in the next few weeks. Of course it will be seen to be O’s idea–but we’ll know better. 😉

• Aaack–can somebody fix the code so the italics end after “d’etat?” Thanks!

• I don’t think Obama and Clinton are in cahoots if that’s what you mean. I suspect that right after Obama greeted him this morning Clinton said, “you fucked up”. This is not a good bill. We are comparing ourselves with Hong Kong, which is a free market controlled by the Chinese. Negotiating with the Republicans would have been totally unnecessary if Obama had pushed hard for a bigger stimulus package. But Obama isn’t good at politics. So, he cut the deal he did.
Sucks, big time.
Im betting that he gave Barry an earful and issued demands before he took on the job of rehabilitating his image.
Too bad for Obama it didn’t work. No, after that stupid move at the pressed, obama looks like an even bigger mistake than before. That’s what standing next to a informed, concerned motivated, and politically clever will do. It was really stupid for him to leave. Really, really stupid.
Oh, I’m sure that the tiny but loud whole foods nation is having a field day. But they never did understand Clintin. He is a master of messaging and he gets through to his target audience very well. Right now, having a Clinton at the podium fielding questions is just what the public wants.

• I don’t think Obama and Clinton are in cahoots if that’s what you mean. I suspect that right after Obama greeted him this morning Clinton said, “you fucked up”.

I don’t think they’re “in cahoots” either, that’s what I meant by coup d’etat. I’m sure Big Dawg did lay down the law and tell O he needed to stand back and let the grownups handle things from now on. O will still get to speechify and play POTUS, but there’ll be different hands pulling his strings.

Hey, a girl can hope, can’t she?

• I sure hope you’re right, LandOLincoln.

11. I just saw this on CBS and howled! It was unreal. Not only is it astounding that he has to bring a former president in to cover for him, but he is STUPID enough to leave for a frickin’ holiday party?!

It is beyond comprehension! What a loser.

• Yep, you saw what I saw. Oh sure, the obot diehards will scream about the Clenis teaching how to triangulate but this is the worst thing Barry could have done. It’s right up there with “I am not a crook” and other incredibly embarrassing political moves that kill careers.

• That’s what I said: of all the ridiculous things he’s done, this is his biggest gaffe. How clueless can he–and his staff–be? They are basically conceding: Yea, he has no idea what to do, so he’s just going to a party and will leave the governing to someone who knows what the hell he’s talking about.

• Not only that but it’s like broadcasting that he doesn’t meet the Clinton standard. Hillary would NEVER do this.

• She wouldn’t have to either because she could defend her positions.

• Let’s tell the truth — it isn’t just the Clinton standard — no one but Obama would do what he just did. NO ONE. I’ve never in my life seen someone just walk away from a press conference like this to attend a “party” and leave the guy whose job it ISN’T to handle things. Not in a corporate setting, not in a political one. Bizarre doesn’t even begin to describe it.

• I agree, RD. I was telling my husband that this will be defining moment in BO’s presidency.

• Well what do you want, Ashton Kutcher, I mean Obama, had to get back to tweeting.

• Isn’t it amazing how he just gets worse and worse in all dimensions. This one was unbelievable. He looks like the lamest lame duck president in the history of the universe!

• Actually it scares me even more that he is running our country or someone is and its not good.

• Too bad he can’t just leave that to Bill too.

• As far as I cam concerned he can go PARTE’, and Bill can run the White House biz, Bill loves to read every bill from top to bottom and then goes back and does corrections and modifications and if it is wrong, he uses his red pen and sends it back.

Yup, I can live with Bill as the Presidential Admin POTUS and TOTUS can go on vacation.

• Well, it scares me too. His incompetence is getting harder and harder to hide (and to witness). To run off like that, as the majority of the country suffers financially, is pure cowardice and idiocy, right there for all to see. The irony of a Clinton sticking around to complete the task at hand is stunning.

Leave it to Bill and Hill, 0, they don’t think little datey dates are more important

• Don’t forget — running off while the majority of the country suffers financially to attend a party. If that isn’t a modern take on “let them eat cake” I don’t know what is.

• Partying like it’s 1788.

• Pretty sure our dollars paid for his party, too! Remember, Michelle did distinguish this administration from previous ones with “there are more parties in the WH now.”

• Actually the pro prog bloggers are stepping on each other trying to figure out how to spin this. But regular army obots have been freer with their sentiments on facebook:

>>Obama needs to watch out!!!

>>Seriously? This is the equivalent of a grown man having his dad come and talk to the people he works for on how he is going to do a better job.

• Hey, for once I agree with some Obots.

• Can you imagine what would have happened to GWB if he had left a presser & left his dad (GHWB) in charge?
I’m not defending GWB by any stretch of the imagination, but really, is what Obama just did here any different from that scenario?

• But remember, W had Cheney running the show. SNL did some very funny skits about that. What is stunning is that BO left — for all things — a Xmas party! Bill didn’t seem too happy about that: “First of all, I feel awkward being here and now you’re gonna leave me here all by myself!”

• Chenney running the show is nothing (face it, it is Axelrove running the Obama show) compared to the current POTUS leaving a press conference in the hands of a former POTUS so he can attend a Christmas party!! Whose the POTUS again? I felt like I was having an hallucination.

• It’s all those rich out of town people he doesn’t want to keep waiting.

• Funny post at HOTAIR:

“Of all the LOL’s I have had over bambi’s incompentence and idiocy, this is the LOLiest. He is the LOL in chief, the LOLOTUS.”

• @chapinc: 1981: Reagan shot, Al Haig announces “I’m in charge.” 2010: Obama late for Xmas party, announces to Bill Clinton, “You’re in charge.”

@alexmassie: I’m thinking Brown wouldn’t have let Tony Blair come back & conduct a presser in Downing St. #gordonsmarterthanobama

12. Reminds everyone of the 2-fer we coulda had.
I bet we hear alot more about this visual in the days to come. Hey, maybe BC isn’t a RACIST after all. But we sure know that wife of his is.

13. Short version:

14. Funny how Clinton was against tax cuts for the rich when Bush first proposed them…..said HE didn’t need a tax cut.

Now, it hasta be, apparently.

• It’s far worse than that. Bill Clinton’s first act as President was to raise taxes on the rich. Of course he was against the Bush tax cuts. They were a direct assault on his legacy. I’m disappointed Bill endorsed this POS so-called deal.

• That’s not what he said. He said he didn’t need it, the rich aren’t paying their fair share and that Republicans are responsible for that.
Watch it again. Clinton did what Obama was too petulant to do. He didn’t talk down to anyone and he didn’t call the base stupid names.
He just showed Obama how to do it and the brat walked off, reinforcing everything his detractors and critics have been saying about him.
Go back and watch again. Clinton puts the blame on Republicans. Obama puts the blame on his supporters.
Didn’t matter at this point. Obama just screwed himself out of a second term.

• Well, that I agree with. But I really don’t want this thing to pass. And, Bill was the lynch pin in the argument against it. Every Democrat worth their salt was thinking what we can’t get back to Clinton-era taxation? Ridiculous. So, it’s still disheartening to hear him come out in full support.

• Let’s think of it this way: if Clinton likes this bill and thinks it’s a good idea, I’ll eat my cashmere scarf. But it could be that it *is* the best bill Obama could get *precisely because* Obama screwed up so badly with The stimulus.
So, Bill tried to make lemonade And will probably lobby like a dervish for him.
The question i have is, what did Clinton get in return?

• I don’t know but wonder if it’s possible BC got BO to agree that once the bill is law, O will alter some of the more odious provisions by presidential fiat–what’s it called, executive order?

• I am hoping what he got was 0’s promise to step aside and clear the way for Hillary. Not that a 0 promise means anything….

• “But it could be that it *is* the best bill Obama could get *precisely because* Obama screwed up so badly with The stimulus.”

Exactly. The stimulus, and the HCR, and DADT, and Afghanistan, and Iraq, and. . ..

The Democrats have allowed themselves to be maneuvered into a corner: if they fail to pass this bill, they make themselves, not the Republicans, responsible for ending UI benefits to 9 million out-of-work Americans. Then come January, the Reps will pass the tax cuts anyway and will let UI lapse, all the while pointing to the Dems as the cold-hearted Scrooges who let it happen. It comes down to a failure of leadership–not just from Obama, from the Party pooh-bahs across the board.

And it is the Dems’ fault for waiting until the last minute to seek an extension of benefits, then having to couple it to the tax cuts to get enough Republican and Blue Dog votes.

And yup, I think there’s been a quiet little coup.

• I couldn’t have said it better myself.

• Oooh, ooh, ooh! Mr. Kotter!!! John Smart has a couple of good theories on what Bill Clinton got, the best of which is:

He knows his presence with Obama on this will enrage CDS progs, further alienating them from Obama. In other words Clinton outflanked Obama while appearing to support him. Gutting the faux liberal wing of the party before 2012 is a not a bad strategy for Hillary

Please, please, please God — I’ve been a good girl all year — let this one be true!!

• I read somewhere, where it said that the stimulus of 700 Billion, made 35 or 37 Billion and that it had a cost over run of the equal amount, which sounds as if it cancels out any profit (positive growth). It sounds as it the 700 Billion Dollar Stimulus, was simply a GIFT TO THE RICH and they have their hands out again.

What happened to the Ronald Reagan tough it out? If they (congress) want to continue the wars, then PASS A WAR TAX! It is time for them to put up, or pull out of the wars.

I am tired of the ‘Brother, can you give a MILLIONAIRE A HAND UP…couple of Million’… (((ARH))).

• Yes he did, ain’t this historical?

15. Reminds everyone of the 2-fer we coulda had.

I think that was the point. 🙂

16. Be careful Big Dawg! MEchelle might still “want to rip your eyes out”. Don’t you be upstaging her baby’s daddy.

In Wisconsin, I asked her if she was offended by Bill Clinton’s use of the phrase ‘fairytale’ to describe her husband’s characterisation of his position on the Iraq war. At first, Obama responded with a curt ‘No’. But, after a few seconds, she affected a funny voice. ‘I want to rip his eyes out!’ she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. ‘Kidding!’ Obama said. ‘See, this is what gets me into trouble.’

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/may/04/barackobama

17. It also completely reinforces Obama’s lack of work ethic. The report said that Bill was only supposed to answer a couple questions, and Gibbs kept saying, “One more question,” and Bill kept right on taking questions–because he LOVES talking policy and governing. It’s his life’s calling; it’s not a work burden for him.

Obama, on the other hand, had to go to a holiday party.

18. OMG! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. That is the worst thing I have ever seen. I’m embarrassed for President Obama and I don’t even like the guy.

I honestly can’t tell you what is worse, having to drag Bill Clinton in to try and bail your behind out, or ditching him because you have a party to go to.

• Another learning moment.

• Bid Dawg, says he spends an hour a day, cramming economics and trying to figure out a solution and he then is interrupted by Obama who has another IMPORTANT PARTE’ to attend…mean while Senator Bernie Sanders hasn’t stepped away from the podium, ‘cuz no PARTY is going to keep him from making his points known about the BUSH TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH.

I learned to say, GO BERNIE GO!

• “I honestly can’t tell you what is worse, having to drag Bill Clinton in to try and bail your behind out, or ditching him because you have a party to go to.”

That about sums it up.

• I think Obama had to leave because it would have been more embarrassing to stand there the whole time while Clinton was Acting President. He should have come up with a better excuse.

• Honk.
Obama feared Bill would turn to him and defer a question and Obama would be there like deer in the headlights without his teleprompter.
It would have been really embarrassing …
He is so in over his head. It was made crystal clear in those 56 seconds.
Devastating.

19. I’m sitting here completely gobsmacked. It’s just surreal. I’ve never seen a sitting president just abdicate all responsibility that way, in a public forum. My God, he’s been looking weak for some time, but this just made him look like a complete spineless, clueless, accountability-ducking coward. (Which he is, but usually he at least TRIES to fake it.)

This looks sooooo bad – impotent and ineffectual. Never seen anything like this. Gawd, I’m embarrassed for this country. Even Bush at least had the balls to chuckle and make some canned statements to defend his asinine policies. Obama just wimped out entirely.

• {{WMCB}} Nice to see you.

• Yeah, I think this is unprecedented in American history. A sitting president just walking out on a news conference and handing all responsibility over to the former Democratic president. If there was a time to lie about where he was going it was during that conference. At least say he had another important meeting about the economy. But admitting that he was bailing to go to Michelle’s XMas Party?!?!?! So embarrassing. I agree with everyone here. I never liked Obama but I felt embarrassed for him when I watched the entire 30 minute video. Sad and scary day for America.

20. Jeebus. Why didn’t he just give Clinton the finger?

• Quick! Go front page it. Let’s plaster this all over the tubez.

• Done: Why didn’t Barry just give Clinton the finger?.

Note that FWIW I’m not happy at all with Clinton selling this on the basis of the unemployment insurance extension, because the 99ers aren’t covered. There are a lot of them, and the message they’re being sent is “Go die.” That’s immoral. If there’s one thing we should be able to identify with, it’s being thrown under the bus, and throwing the 99ers under the bus is just wrong.

• I think the point he was making is that all unemployed people are at risk once The Repiblicans take power.
Put it this way, can you imagine Bill Clinton being in the same prédicament as Barry?
It’s time to stop blaming Clinton for ever pickle that Obama needs rescuing from. I don’t think Clinton likes this any more than we do. He liked to raise taxes on the rich and cut them on the poor. Whatever else you say about Clinton, this is not a bill he would have negotiated for.
This is all Obama’s doing. Well, his and the assholes who got him nominated.

• If he doesn’t like it, he shouldn’t be trying to sell it. That kind of thinking is what got us Obamacare and a lot of other go along, get along nothing burgers.

• The 99er problem and the simple fact that the poorest paid workers will have their taxes increased are enough to make the tax deal appalling. Not even mentioning the rich making out like bandits again.

If this is the best that could be done, they should have done nothing and went back to the Clinton tax rates. That would not have broken the economy, I don’t care how many shill ecomomists claim it would.

• Plus, what Saunders shows is that you don’t have to accept the limits of polite discourse (as both Obama, to the right, and Clinton, at the extreme left of what’s sayable, do). One way to change the rules is to kick over the table and scatter the pieces. Saunders and Clinton both, I think, are responding to a sudden perception that in the Obama administration, “there’s no there, there.” Politics abhors a vacuum.

• Not to mention that Obama got no agreement to raise the debt ceiling. Alan Simpson said that would be the next opportunity for bloodletting.

I’m disgusted that Bill Clinton is selling this.

21. I think instead of rumblings about launching a primary campaign, it’s time to launch full on calls for Obama to resign.

Even if the policies were the same, at least with Biden we’d have better optics (though he may put his foot in his mouth over and over again, there is that.)

• I think Obama in actuality just abdicated. It was Edward VIII all over again.

• I agree. It looked like he just threw in the towel and said, “take this job and shove it”.

Get Hillary back, for gawdsakes.

• please, please, please.

And hasn’t it been 2 years now — isn’t that about the longest Obama ever held a full-time job?

So maybe resigning — or resigning de facto — is actually in the cards. Maybe he suddenly needs to spend more time with his family.

• watch how he impatiently crosses his arms right before he takes off…

• pretty sure you’re right. Hopefully someone yelled “no backsies” when he walked out of the room!

22. Still, makes me sad, to see Clinton justifying this betrayal. Pathetic on so many levels!

• Stop thinking about the content of the bill. I think Clinton just admitted that the bill sucks. Concentrate on the message that Clinton is delivering. The republicans are doing this. The rich aren’t paying their fair share. For all I know, it could have been planned this way. This clip will be played all over the place. And along with obama’s untimely departure, those messages will get out.
So, betrayal is not what this is. It’s political theater.

• I do not think Bill Clinton would ever make a mistake like justifying this bill but it shows how obama failed to do it in the right way and earlier. just like he said to obama go on {to the party} and said I wouldn’t want MO mad at me either and laughed. He makes his points well.

• Actually, the Republicans are doing this.

Unfortunately, we have two Republican parties, where we need an absolute maximum of one.

(Bernie, let us remember, is a [gasp] Socialist.]

• Yes, but most of the country doesnt read political blogs. Thats why Bill is so useful. He delivers the message to the non bloggy types in a very clever, straightforward manner. He connects the dots for them. And the message is not that this is a good bill. He seems almost pained to admit it has any positive aspects. The message is that the Republicans are going to screw us over.

23. Bernie is still going strong. If you have a minute, go write him an email or phone his office and tell him thank you. It only takes a few minutes of your time,
Reward good behavior.

• HA! I don’t go over to Hot Air too often, but one of the commentors there posted something I loved — he wrote that maybe Obama is going to make Bill Clinton the “Executive Branch Czar!”

We can only hope. 🙂

• Another pearl from over there:

• Oh, AllahPundit did this one nicely.

Exit question: The White House is very keen to reassure liberals that Obama is not, repeat not, trying to “triangulate” ahead of 2012. Er, is a big showy meeting at the White House with Bill Clinton really the best way to communicate that message? What’s next, a joint press conference with Dick Morris?

• I wonder if the Obots even remember that Obama ran against Clinton’s economic policies. The kool aid ain’t great for the old memory.

• Yup, they lack memory. Wasn’t it the Obots telling Bill Clinton to shut up (Sharpton comes to mind).
They claimed Hillary couldn’t keep him from running his mouth, and it was time for change.
And wasn’t it Roland Martin who said Bill Clinton needs to own up to the crap he pulled in the 2008 election.

Yup they threw them under the bus alright, and now it’s 3 a.m.

• Good ONE, we can all go to sleep like babes tonight (if it were true).

• bwahaha! nice one.

24. I just watched the whole thing. Big Dawg must love this country a lot to articulately explain everything while Mr. Imperious Fool stands there with his arms crossed and impatience scrawled across his face.

0: wow, no teleprompter, I better get outta here
Big Dawg: Hillary could do this even better than me.
Press Corp: “Mr President….”(to Clinton, of course).

25. I don’t like this bill because it enshrines the Bush tax cuts for Biff and Muffy and we cannot afford that crap—our country needs revenue, damnit.
But, peeps, Clinton is what a President looks and sounds like!
At this point I’d draft any Clinton.
Is Roger available?

26. When I first heard about this, I thought it was a spoof. Really.

As good as it was to see President Clinton in “his element”, this is just scary. I feel like I’m on a plane with no pilot. I was embarrassed for Obama and the country as this played out. What was he thinking?

Leadership in DC seems so loosey-goosey. It seems like no one takes their job or their office seriously, including POTUS.

27. I haven’t been around here for a while or even keeping up with my own blog (been too busy getting hitched and all)… but I HAD to come hear what was being said about this insanity at my old haunt. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything remotely like this EVER.

I mean… seriously… you’re the PRESIDENT of the frikkin’ United States of America and you leave a press conference in the middle and not only that, you have your predecessor from 10 years ago show up to bail you out??

But boy oh boy is Clinton ever presidential!!!

28. WTF as that? Really, I nearly fell off my chair when POTUS said he was keeping the First Lady waiting, then turned on his heel and LEFT the frigging room!

WTF was that? Another complete capitulation? I will now turn it over to BIg Dawg, the most successful and respected Prez, still living, and let “him” explain my foul, bipartisan agreement [cave].

Is there a precedent for this? Or am I suffering amnesia?

I’m still reeling from the optics alone. Bet this made the progs happy [har, har, har].

Oh, happy days!

Btw, while Bill Clinton was “handling” the press, Bernie Sanders was filibustering the ole fashion way–on his feet for 8 hours at the podium. Jimmy Stewart would be proud :0).

29. leadership in DC seems so loosey-goosey. It seems like no one takes their job or their office seriously, including POTUS.

I feel like this since he has become pres and its worse everyday. how can other countries even take us seriously?

30. Hmph, see what happens when you decide to take ONE single day off from the news media craziness!? I missed one of the most historic moments in Obama’s presidency.
He takes the first ever publicly broadcasted presidential mental health day, and get’s Bill Clinton to fill in.
A bit of a problem for Obama though; seems the country’s collective memories have been stirred awake and everyone is starting to recall what a real honest to goodness President looks, acts and sounds like…and nary a teleprompter in sight.
Who is advising this guy,

31. I cannot stand Maureen Dowd for so many reasons, chief among them her rampaging CDS, but, I do look forward to her supremely snarky take on this afternoon’s presser.

32. This pic pretty much sums it up — and its on icanhascheesburger.com of all places!

Gulf War Illness, ME/CFS, blood ban & 9/11 rescuers issues need urgent attention today! http://bit.ly/hGGEK0

So, they can pass the BUSH TAX CUT, but they can’t take care of our soldiers, while Obama blocked the Public Option and they can’t even give 9/11 rescuers health care, but they are sure to use 9/11 as a rallying point to get more money for the RICH.

35. […] was the natural extension of yesterday’s pathetic behavior in bringing the grown-up to do his job while skipping to a party. A lot of good jokes started then. […]

36. Today’s tabloids completely ignore Sanders but some capture Obama’s abdication

37. Holy flashback, Batman!

Nice to see the last real president the USA had again.

38. What it boils down to is Obama is the royalty and Bill and Hill are the prime ministers…..

And that’s really how Obama wants it.

39. I wish Bill hadn’t done this-it was wrong of him imo. Otoh, I’m glad he did it-with Obama’s help-in such a way that it made Obama look pathetic.

• If Bill were Potus, he would not have let things get to the point where the Repubs were holding the UI hostage while demanding tax cuts for the wealthy. The cards were already played by Obama. Repubs had him trumped, and they would have come in with their majority in January and threatened the UI and possibly more. At this late stage, Bill was only there to take some of the heat off Obama, and Obama showed his gratitude by ditching him in the middle of a press conference. It was pretty pathetic.
