Fraud – Stimulus – Sex-ism All Rolled into ONE!

and comment

ALSO, have you seen this??

Remember back in September when we heard Paulson was begging Nancy Pelosi on bended knee to please give him some $$$. That event was our first clue into our economic dire straits and a prelude to the 1st Financial Bailout Package. Here is a C-Span video clip of Rep. Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania. He explains how the Federal Reserve told Congress members about a “tremendous draw-down of money market accounts in the United States, to the tune of $550 billion dollars”. This is September 2008.

Here is a transcript:

“On Thursday Sept 15, 2008 at roughly 11 AM The Federal Reserve noticed a tremendous draw down of money market accounts in the USA to the tune of $550 Billion dollars in a matter of an hour or two.

Money was being removed electronically.

The treasury tried to help with $150 Billion.

But could not stem the tide.

It was an electronic run on the banks

The treasury intervened but had they not closed down the accounts they estimated that by 2 PM that afternoon. Within 3 hours. $5.5 Trillion would have been withdrawn and collapsed and within 24 hours the world economy.”

He goes on to say it would have been the end of our economic and political system as we knew it.

WOW!

  1. Ha! I have a picture of “The Donald” arriving at the door in a pair of Victoria’s Secrets’ finest. 😆

  2. What hath Bush wrought? And how did he do such a great job wrecking everything in such a short time?!

    Thanks for an amazing post.

  3. On Thursday Sept 15, 2008 at roughly 11 AM The Federal Reserve noticed a tremendous draw down of money market accounts in the USA to the tune of $550 Billion dollars in a matter of an hour or two.

Who started the run? And why?

    (Soros????)

  4. With everything that has happened, I can’t believe no one is truly being held accountable yet (or, should I say that no high powered men are being held accountable).

Off topic, but for anyone reading Three Cups of Tea who has younger children ages 8 to young teens, there is a young reader’s edition (it’s written at a lower reading level, includes maps, more photos, a glossary, etc.). A couples lines from the introduction that caught my attention are:

“But there are 110 million children ages five to fifteen around the world who don’t have a chance to learn how to read and write or to go to school. They can’t get an education because of slavery, poverty, discrimination against girls, religioous extremism, or corrupt governments.”

  5. They were and are all in this together. I

can’t remember where I read this but a mix of people of various political parties blogged that Clinton was probably the most resourceful, most pragmatic, and productive presidents in some time, and that may be why both parties worked to bring Hillary down. She would have brought that same common sense into the WH. And neither party seems to have wanted that.

  6. Rihanna black R&B singer and her boyfriend singer Chris Brown had to miss their performances at the Grammy’s because he assaulted her so badly she ended up in the hospital. Chris went to jail. She was found with bites all over her body

Rihanna how is that hope and change for blacks working for ya sista????

    See black women.
    He is black like us.
But he is still a MAN!!!

This is a snarky Afrocity retort to my aunt who said:

Hillary is a woman like us
    BUT SHE IS STILL WHITE

  7. What kind of bizzaro world do we live in where common sense is a bad thing?!

    I feel sick.

  8. That would be the world where Zero looked like a good candidate!

  9. OT–big news story at CNN, Obama bumped his head getting onto Air Force One this morning. Video:

    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2009/02/09/vo.obama.bumps.head.cnn

  10. I can’t make light of anyone hurting themselves.

  11. Wasn’t the financial crisis the single event that turned the polls towards Obama and determined the election? I was watching the polls closely at the time so, i know the answer to that.

  12. O/T, but while I was getting my lunch together, I had the radio on and Rush was bloviating and pontificating in his usual fashion. However, he did make one comment that got my attention.

He said that Obama was nothing but a “tool” and the reason that he was “pushed” by Harry and Nancy was that they both knew they could not push Hillary around. He said that Hillary would never have put up with them, would have sent then packing, and would have had a hand in crafting the stimulus package and not “given it over” to the likes of them.

I keep meaning to change that radio station but once in awhile Rush says something that makes sense.

  13. I remember when that raid happened — there were blogs about this event. The comments that sticks in my mind were the ones from traders who watched this happen — they said this was financial terrorism and some felt that it was a deliberate manipulation to influence the election.

Why can’t the source of the raid be discovered or disclosed? Was it from a foreign source — like the Saudis or perhaps the Chinese — both have an enormous investment in the US.

    ——————-

Are humans de-evolving? It would seem that common sense is an evolved human trait — and that making choices based pure emotions is a primitive pre-human trait.

What we do know is that humans can be emotionally manipulation on a massive scale — to the point that many people lose their rational thinking abililty.

  14. bostonboomer
If there was such a video, it’s scrubbed.

  15. Bommer, Does that mean he’s going to wake up and be a REAL DEMOCRATIC LIBERAL?!?!??!??!

Oh god, that would be great!

  16. Does anyone know, or how can we find out how that run actually started.

Was it a true run, was it a cyber terror attack, was it a manipulation by the bilderbergers to sway the election.

    How can we find out.

  17. I just saw Obama on Italian news-he was stumping in front of some auto workers. I couldn’t believe it-the choreography was exactly the same as during the elections.
It really does look as if they don’t know what to do with him.

  18. Are humans de-evolving?

Good question. One reason why humans evolved is that they had no other choice but to use their brains in order to exist. Today everything has been made very easy for us to accomplish. Calculators have taken the place of reasoning out mathematical answers. Computers have taken the place of reading a book. Maps are no longer a necessity as GPS systems are part of a car. Cellphones are portable and equipped with messaging systems which has overtaken writing a letter.

Hell, even I complain when I have to empty the dishwasher that has done my work for me.

  19. That’s why we need the Fed, so someone can notice things like this while they are happening.

  20. LOL Pat-I hate emptying the dishwasher too!!

“I’ve always remembered what Joseph Stalin said: ‘Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything.’ The same principle applies to the census.
    http://tinyurl.com/ddmqgq

We’ve moved on since Stalin’s day-subliminal conditioning techniques have improved with the advent of tv.
And electronic manipulation of the stock market has found its electoral niche too, this cycle.

  21. Ha ha, I saw this somewhere today about the “first bump” move and how conservatives can come up with “anti-Obama moves”

Today at tennis, after I made a hard point, my partner offered the Obama fist bump.

“I don’t do that,” I said, and I gave her a stern look. It’s not the first time I’ve run into Obamabots on the courts; the game attracts argumentative, competitive types (of which I may be one). I didn’t stop and lecture the O’Bot, because Wasting Ind0or Court Time is a Sin. I just high-fived her with my racquet, and went on playing.

I’m into dis0bedience these days, now that we Right-Thinkers are in the minority, living in fear of Obamification. In small ways, I resist.

    1) I refuse to do the fist bump. We Center Right Thinkers need our own hand jive, a nonverbal way to say, ‘I’m Anti-Obi’. We are open to suggestions.”

  22. afrocity — he didn’t hurt himself — give me a break! There is a difference between granny slipping on a banana peel & some arrogant massively wrong a–hole slipping on a banana peel. And the msm didn’t mind making light of Gerald Ford’s “hurting” himself — so far Obama has walked into a window & bumped his head on his spiffy new ride. I think it is damn funny.

  23. Pat Johnson, on February 9th, 2009 at 3:30 pm Said:

Obots are proof that Darwin was wrong on the whole evolution thing.

  24. Also o/t. Has anyone ever heard of thewhitehouseproject.org? A friend of mine who was a Hillary supporter, but then switched to O left me a message regarding the effort by this group to get women into political positions of power. Wants me to go to a training in March in North Jersey.

I checked out the website. Seems interesting, tho some things are a little dated. Maybe this might be something PUMAs might be interested in, as increasing the number of women in politics is certainly a subject on this blog.

Not too far from you, RD.

Anyone ever hear of them? Comments?

  25. edge — the video is still there — you just have to watch a commercial first to see it.

  26. Afrocity, good snark reply to relative.

I hope Rhianna the singer heals quickly and well. I hope the man who did it rots in jail.

  27. The Obama head-bump video — If he hadn’t turned to wave at his adoring fans (errr, media) he wouldn’t have bumped his head. Hard to avoid doing that, of course, when you have such a big head.

  28. Angie, just saying whether it is a banana peel or slipping on his own BS. Bush chocking on a potato chip or Obama, or Cheney sh00ting someone by accident, Jay-z swallowing his own gold teeth. I just don’t find it humorous. There is a lot more I find funny about Obama. I just don’t want to see TC showing video clips of someone hitting himself. Take the high road even though it is tempting not to. If it was Sarah Palin the video would be all over the place and people laughing. Just not in good taste IMHO. So I try to keep good karma by not laughing when it happens to someone that I may even think deserves it.

  29. God they are calling that woman “OCTO-MOM”

  30. PumainSeattle — LOL! Someone already must have told him that the President doesn’t shake hands with the marine guard, just salutes. Now someone needs to tell him to just get on the damned plane!

  31. mlhath — I’ve heard of them but hadn’t checked out their site in some months.

  32. OT–big news story at CNN, Obama bumped his head getting onto Air Force One this morning

Did it knock any sense into him?

I saw the vid. It was a little thump; no biggie at all.

  33. I am practicing being an Obot today. It is 3pm and I am still in jammies and have essentially sat here for hours with nothing getting down including hygeine. I need an immediate intervention!

  34. afrocity, what you said!

But alas, I still seem to enjoy actions which accumulate bad karma. I was getting better but I’ll blame my recent lapses on recent politics. Too flippant, I know.

  35. afrocity — and I’m saying that he didn’t f*cking hurt himself — it is obvious — il & it is funny. And YES perspective has everything to do with whether something is a comedy or a tragedy and for you to pretend otherwise is a little difficult for me to believe. Where is your perspective on this to compare it to making fun of the guy Cheney shot in the face? Seriously, what is up with you?

  36. Pat — did you have coffee or tea yet?

    And are they clean jammies?

  37. Now ladies…(being sexist here?) Let’s play nice.

(and with that snarky comment I’m leaving. Gotta take the momster to the doc.

  38. PumaInSeattle:

Thanks for the reply. Have you heard any positive or negative? Or just know the name?

  39. PumaInSeattle: I am taking the 5th. All I need is for someone to ring the doorbell. If I can get through to 6pm without being “outed”, I can claim I got into my jammies “early” in order to conserve heat.

If nothing else, I am inventive.

  40. It’s only 1 pm here in my time zone. I’m not scheduled to work today. I am migrating my data from an old Mac to a new Mac. The progress window has been saying “Less than a minute remaining” for, oh, about 20 min now. Makes me think I picked up a Microsoft product by mistake. Can I make fun of their weighty inefficient apps without bad karma?

Wish Dakinikat was here so she could comment on the “electronic run on the banks” which is scary sh1t. And why is this getting revealed now? Maybe we need a TinFoil Hat 2nd Monday night session.

  41. When Obama “Bumped his head….was he wearing his REALLY COOL JACKET”?!?!?
“Pat J.” Absolutely Obama is a “Tool”. I’m not so sure if it was completely Reid & not mostly Pelosi.

  42. Pat, some jammies look like sweats; I’ll picture you in those. I bought some polarfleece-type ones and wore them for “real” clothes in the colder months till they wore out!

Remember, you don’t have to answer the doorbell if you don’t want to.

  43. Angie that is your opinion. If it is funny to you so be it.

Frankly when I heard about it before anyone on TC said anything about it. I thought gee that must of hurt. that was my first instinct but I tend not to find that sort of stuff interesting,or funny ha ha no matter what level it is on. There are lots of clips of Bush screwing up tripping etc, but I not into it so when BB announced Obama hitting his head I was just like yeah I don’t make light of stuff like that. Now BB, may have been posting the link to illicit sympathy for him but I doubt it, at any rate that is how I feel.

  44. Let’s hope nobody yells “fire”. Nothing more embarrassing then being filmed mid afternoon in jammies and socks in time for the evening broadcast.

  45. remember when the door wouldn’t open for bush. that was funny. the look on his face was priceless.

  46. Afrocity,

I posted it because I thought it was kind of silly for CNN to call it breaking news and show a long video where at the end Obama didn’t bump his head really, his head just brushed the top of the plane door. It didn’t look to me like it could have hurt much, but if it did, then I’m sorry. I just thought it was a pretty minor story to make a big deal about with everything else that is happening.

  47. mlhath–Sorry, I don’t know anything concrete other than the org has a legit tax-exempt status and was started by the same woman who started the Take Our Daughters to Work Day (yeah, that one that gets co-opted by males so often).

I just now looked over the board members bios, but I’m not familiar with any of them. Except vaguely with the one who researched women and girls in sports, which was a much-needed project to publicize that it’s good for females to be active, but there are still too many barriers.

Then again, they posted an adoring-toned piece from some newspaper on MO being involved in policy. I don’t want any effing hospital administrator making health-care policy — they always get it wrong. We need clinicians and patients to make it.

  48. That O-video was 95% him striding across the grass, 4% walking up ramp, and 1% brief tap and then dodging the top of doorway.

  49. If I had known it would be such a big thing I wouldn’t have posted that link. I swear, Afrocity, he couldn’t have hurt himself at all. He just brushed his head against the door. If he had really cracked his head, I wouldn’t have posted it!

  50. BB,

I agree. It was not newsworthy. I am surprised that CNN showed something that made The One Look less than perfect.
Seems like more up FOX NEWS alley.

  51. There was nothing wrong with the video. He grazed his swollen head is all. Been different had he fractured it but he didn’t.

  52. Bush trying to dance with the African musicians was even funnier. Talk about inept!

  53. If CNN hadn’t called attention to him brushing his head on the door, no one would ever have noticed it. Are they turning against him?

  54. mlhath – yes I’ve heard of the whitehouseproject.org – they’ve done some good work with the Eagleton Institute and the Center for American Women and Politics. I know Deb Walsh who heads CAWP – they have a number of workshops and full courses for women entering politics.

  55. I don’t laugh at the guy who got shot in the face. But I do think it’s pretty funny that our Vice President shot someone in the face! Somebody bumping their head into something, or walking into a wall – is pretty funny. Someone once opened a door right in front of me and I walked into it, like they do in the movies. I laughed as much as the people around me. Bush choking on a potato chip makes me laugh too. Had he died – I wouldn’t. But he was fine. Had Obama suffered some sort of injury as a result of hitting himself, no it wouldn’t be funny…maybe. Depends on the injury. But in any case, he was fine. And I already updated my Facebook status update with a joke about hitting my head as I walked through a door.

  56. Thanks PumaInSeattle. They do seem a little obot friendly, but I cannot expect all women to be PUMAs. At least they are interested in increasing the number of women in politics. Which is the first step in stopping the mysogyny forever. And getting all the so-called women’s issues. Like that darn peace and stuff.

I guess I will go and check it out.

  57. Is it possible that this is a case of economic terrorism; the global economy as hostage and the U.S. has to pay the ransom? And all these bailout packages are still part of the ransom payments? Because try as I do, I can’t understand how any of the things they have passed could possibly help the individual American citizen– the unemployed, uninsured, foreclosed on and up to their heads in debt.

  58. The tide has not turned as yet, bb. They are still enthralled to a certain extent.

Be prepared for tomorrow when the vote gets through and he is credited and praised for moving it forward. Just a matter of 24 hours and this crisis will pass and we will be excoriated for losing faith in his abilities.

    yawn

  59. Thanks, Joanelle. I’m going to attend and see what they say.

  60. bostonboomer, on February 9th, 2009 at 4:29 pm Said:
    Are they turning against him?

I’ve heard more people say negative things about O in the last two days than ever before. 👿

  61. His favorables will rise after tomorrow. While Reagan was Teflon, this one is more like that backyard trampoline.

  62. DYB, one of the scariest moments of my life was when I almost choked to death in my own apartment, alone…with only my cats watching. Forget what I was eating I think it was pretzels actually and it was this horrible 1 minute that felt like an eternity. My brain was in panic mode and I unfroze and thought how do I get out of this or can I. I survived but it wasn’t funny.

  63. kind of hard to feel sorry for the Manhattan Madam, but she does have a point. Anyone know if the use of prostitutes on the taxpayer dime was specifically banned in the bail out bill? I’m guessing probably NOT.

Angie and BB, I think its funny that he bumped his head…maybe will knock some sense into him. Personally, I bump my head all the time when getting in the car, so I don’t see what the big deal is either.

That Rhianna assault is just awful… of course there are some idiots saying that she deserved to get hit…hadn’t heard about the bite marks

  64. OMG, Afrocity. How awful! Thanks goodness you survived.

  65. LOL Pat. All you need is some cheetos and you’ll be all set. Hey, that gives me an idea for a Halloween costume.

  66. I guess Obama’s head is so big now it doesn’t fit. They’ll need to build a bigger plane.

  67. how the hell did this thread get so far down this path?

    LOL

I don’t mind being a bit off topic, but gee whiz!

    🙄

  68. Eventually trampolines give out and teflon wears off. The bounces aren’t as high, the waffles start sticking. I’ll be looking forward to it!

Now I really must go do some things and take a time-out from this snarky blogging which is too much fun!

But seriously — can one of you front-pagers see if Dakinikat will do a post commenting on that Kanjorski video? Not that she’s not already plenty busy. But she is so good at explaining economic topics, and the background info.

  69. A-Rod admitted to taking steroids. Phelps pictured inhaling a whopping pile of bong smoke. Chris Brown, a singer, arrested for beating up his girlfriend. All celebs. All will be exonerated. All is forgiven.

  70. OMG CK’s you knows have spread on to Hillary. In her interview with Jodi Kantor of the New York Times, she uses lots of “you knows”.

  71. According to CNN (aka Misinformation Central), people still like Obama but they don’t like his stimulus package. So I guess they’re still not fully awake.

  72. Oh afrocity, that is frightening. I had the same chocking experience, (some other food source tho) and suffocation is still one of my nightmares.

Later I found out you should try to do a self-Heimlich’s maneuver — if you can remember with brain cells gasping.

  73. Fembots,

I think it became a big deal when I said I don’t make light of it. Didn’t mean for it to be but really it was my opinion

you said that “That Rhianna assault is just awful… of course there are some idiots saying that she deserved to get hit…hadn’t heard about the bite marks”

Yes well no one deserves to get hurt.
I only mentioned the Rihanna thing to show that AA woman need to recognize that they are a part of the vagina club too.

  74. Too funny! I just now was checking Scroogle to search for something, and their cartoon-of-the-moment is a T-shirt with:

    “I visited Obama’s site and watched a video …
… and all I got was a stinkin’ Google.com tracking cookie with a globally-unique ID.”

    Coincidence?

  75. I am in moderation. I said the “v” word.

  76. I like to think of “threads” being like a group of people sitting around the backyard or the living room, shooting the breeze. One topic segue’s into another as the thread moves on, just like at home.

Disagreements arise, points of view are discussed, the glass is refilled, the chatter goes on. Of course it helps if you are dressed for the occasion, unlike me today, where if you came over I would “pretend” to hosting a pajama party that lasted more than one night.

  77. This country is being looted. And the folks we have elected just keep looking the other way. Enough already. Someone needs to put a stop to this. But that someone sure as heck won’t be Obama. So now we wait another four years and then hope we can get someone in charge who’ll do the right thing and clean up this freakin’ mess.

  78. Hmmm….financial meltdown two months before the election.

This is obviously orchestrated, as 550 billion in a couple of hours is not usual. Why didn’t someone raise their hand at the time? Why are we only hearing about it now?

So who benefits from a financial meltdown during the Bush administration? John McCain? I don’t think so.

It’s a little early for Tinfoil Hat Tuesday, but something tells me whoever benefited by backing Obama, could have pulled this string. And how many people would have access to that much “money”. Every string on every piece of clothing I have would not move more than $5.50.

Someone upthread mentioned Soros. Certainly in the realm of possibility. And should be traceable, even to offshore accounts.

  79. I agree Pat

Afrocity: (scratches ass and picks b00ger from nose)

  80. I agree Pat! I do not always stay on topic after I have made a post about the topic.

just was trying to lighten things up a bit. that’s all.

  81. gxm17: If there is such a creature out there he/she has yet to be identified. The Chattering Class is made up of the same mindset that has captured and taken control of both parties.
Money, power, influence, is the name of the game.

Find me somebody who can actively work against this premise, whose only interest is serving the common good, who has no corporate sponsors, who is not in the clutches of the religious right, and I may pay attention.

Until then, you are on your own.

  82. I always thought the financial crisis was orchestrated. It hit right as McCain’s numbers were rising. Sad that the voters are so easily manipulated. Sad that there are people willing to cause so much grief.

  83. Kucinich perhaps. Cynthia McKinney. And then there’s Hillary. She played the game but IMO she has always been able to walk that line between playing the game and maintaining her principles. JMHO of course.

  84. The crisis was in the works for a long time. The bubble burst during the run up to the election. Neither bozo had a clue in how to solve it. One indicated that “the economy was strong” while the other remained in isolation “boning up” for the debates.

I have no idea of just when it started but my money is back when the banks were threatened if they refused mortgages to people whose only source of income was social security, disability payments, student loans, and unemployment compensation. Add to that the fact that most of those mortgages were over inflated and voila!, disaster waiting to happen.

I am sure there was more involved as well but when those bankers, financial gurus, mortgage brokers and realtors got their hands on some of that ready cash the mess we are now enduring began. Factor in an unconscionable and costly war and the seeds of destruction took root.

  85. Cynthia McKinney “sees dead people”.

  86. Causing a run like that is what Thailand accused Soros of doing a few years ago, when their currency imploded. At least, I think it was Thailand. He probably could have done it, or started the panic anyway.

  87. So the 76% of the people who were polled who think Obama is doing a good job so far… Have they missed all these botched nominations? Or the stimulus package he can’t get passed? Where the heck are these folks getting their “news”?

  88. “Someone upthread mentioned Soros. Certainly in the realm of possibility. And should be traceable, even to offshore accounts.”

Soros + Google + Carlyle Group (founded by Bush Sr)?????

  89. Bingo – this post is excellent. Silly me has been “wondering” about the timing of this melt down. Since last fall. BZero’s selection, his cipher status(fill
in the blanks – this is not a Democrat) Pelosi/Reid/ Dem congress with feet in cement – yeah. These are
big time major ratf@ckers with such stupidenous
fanasy support from the culprets who brought us Bush.
Sickening. A little aside – the media is still hammering
both Clintons. This is a major coupe – jeesh, what percentage of the America voting public will grasp this.

This is the SAME group that Bu$hit represented. Sorry for the language – I am still, STILL white hot with rage these days…….so much going on, so much was suspected – and here it is. I have not posted for two months because I am still raging. I do not watch any media these days – they disgust me. We have no professional journalist – they are bought and paid for.

  90. The crisis was in the works for a long time.

It was but it was triggered to happen sooner. McCain’s polls were rising and then bam! everything is falling apart.

  91. I do not always stay on topic

I get a little steamed when I spend some time preparing a post and the very first comment is completely off topic. When that happens I zap ’em.

  92. When I saw the latest picture of Saint Barack, at first I didn’t believe my eyes… then I thought it was an Onion photo rather than an AP photo:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/4571678/Barack-Obama-warns-economic-stimulus-delay-would-bring-disaster.html

  93. Obama Decrees: Massive Immigration of Hamas Refugees from Gaza
Obama has signed a presidential determination allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to resettle in the United States.

By executive order, on January 27, (Federal Register on February 4) Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in urgent migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza to resettle in the United States . Few on Capitol Hill took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who are loyalists to Hamas, at American taxpayer expense.
Obama’s most recent actions since he was inaugurated a little more than two weeks ago:

The US is bankrupt; Americans are losing their jobs; Muslims in other countries are demanding Sharia Courts, etc. Why would any same person want to do this?

  94. Please everyone, go to hillbuzz.blogspot.com. There is an article entitled “The United States of Blagojevich”. This is taken from something by Michael Savage. It outlines very succinctly the corruption involved in the “bailout”, with huge amounts of “stimulus” money going to pay for the Chicago Olympics in 2016, the Obama Library (which will be opened for the Olympics) and to provide massive amounts of dollars to the corrupt organization ACORN to insure Obama’s re-election in 2012. As a Chicago resident, I am ashamed and saddened by this level of deceit and dishonesty coming from Obama, Daley and the Illinois machine, but I guess I need to reailze this is POLITICS AS USUAL in Obama-Land. All the while he is scaring the American people into passing this ridiculous bill (or else the country will fall apart) all he is doing is working to get re-elected. He is the master of scam and corruption.

  95. Plainjane,

I’ve seen that before, but I can’t find any executive order like at on the White house site. Do you you have a link to the executive order. It sounds like an urban legend to me.

  96. This is so OT but what is wrong with some people. Before Obama was a community organizer, he was a nobody. Apparently some believe he gave up a lot to become a community organizer where he took credit for other people’s work.
    From Democratic underground

I was telling my friend the other day, I would not mind a dictatorship under Obama. nm

  97. I found the executive order Plainjane posted about. It is an instruction to the Sec. of State:

For Immediate Release February 2, 2009
    January 27, 2009
    Presidential Determination

    No. 2009-15

MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF STATE
SUBJECT: Unexpected Urgent Refugee and Migration

    Needs Related to Gaza

By the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, including section 2(c)(1) of the Migration and Refugee Assistance Act of 1962 (the “Act”), as amended (22 U.S.C. 2601), I hereby determine, pursuant to section 2(c)(1) of the Act, that it is important to the national interest to furnish assistance under the Act in an amount not to exceed $20.3 million from the United States Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund for the purpose of meeting unexpected and urgent refugee and migration needs, including by contributions to international, governmental, and nongovernmental organizations and payment of administrative expenses of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration of the Department of State, related to humanitarian needs of Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza.

It doesn’t say anything about paying for plane tickets and housing though.

  98. There will be a live-blog of the Obama presser at 8pm EST

  99. wow only a few hours from total economic collapse-look 300 million Joe the plumbers did not start this run on the banks and withdraw $ 5.5 trilllion this was a set up and congress fell for it.

Look that comes to $ 18000 per person in the US? and it was money market accounts which banks hold for brokerage houses(like Leiman brothers) not savings and checking or CD’s no this was a large movement of a lot of cash..almost $ 1,000.000 per person on earth.

That should have sent off alarms at the office of the comptroller that some one or alot of some ones were making mischief in the financial markets!

Now Fuzzybear is going for a long walk…the loss of 80 lbs begins with the first step!

  107. More Fraud and the ACLU isn’t happy”

“”Eric Holder’s Justice Department stood up in court today and said that it would continue the Bush policy of invoking state secrets to hide the reprehensible history of torture, rendition and the most grievous human rights violations committed by the American government. This is not change. This is definitely more of the same. Candidate Obama ran on a platform that would reform the abuse of state secrets, but President Obama’s Justice Department has disappointingly reneged on that important civil liberties issue. If this is a harbinger of things to come, it will be a long and arduous road to give us back an America we can be proud of again.”

    Spammy hates everybody.

    (except Joaniebone)

  110. Hello Conflucians! What did I miss today?

  111. SHV
Wasn’t Holder the one progressive appointment?

  112. I was already in a foul mood, and when I saw the video, it got worse. I made a whopping $40k last year, paid $9k in state and federal taxes and still owed more. Now you just have to tell me that the tax money I pay in, will pay for hookers?

  113. yes kim, some of the charges were claimed on business tax returns.

  114. obama admin is now covering up torture.

    http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/09/mohamed-torture-uk-us/

  115. obama admin is now covering up torture

“enhanced interrogation” (cuz we don’t torture)

  116. slicing someone’s genitals is not torture?

  117. Were I not so horrified, I’d be laughing my ass off at all the righteous indignation in the air.

  118. Money market account run-

I do remember that. There was a rumor or some news story at the time because when I went to my bank they were trying to pacify some clients who insisted on taking their MM funds. If I remember correctly the pressure was on for the bank bailout and part of the story was that money market funds could be lost if banks failed. I saved all the stories and blogs at the time but can’t go back and research right now…

Soros: The man who broke the pound –

“In British politics and economics, Black Wednesday refers to the events of 16 September 1992 when the Conservative government was forced to withdraw the pound from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) after they were unable to keep Sterling above its agreed lower limit. The most high profile of the currency market investors, George Soros, made over US$1 billion profit by shorting the sterling. In 1997 the UK Treasury estimated the cost of Black Wednesday at £3.4 billion.

The trading losses in August and September were estimated at £800m…”

  119. Taggles, I am sure there is a nuanced answer for that where it isn’t torture.

  120. taggles, perhaps myiq’s sarcasm is torture…

  121. slicing someone’s genitals is not torture?

It can’t be, cuz we don’t torture.

    The President said so.

  122. I am sure there is a nuanced answer for that where it isn’t torture.

It was probably a badly-needed emergency circumcision. Or maybe a vasectomy.

  123. I know myiq was being sarcastic. I appreciated it.

I just wanted anyone who didn’t click on the link to know what the actual act was.

    Read this:

  124. It’s likely that these presidential popularity polls are being driven not so much by approval of Obama, but naked fear that when a president really screws up (which is exactly what Obama’s been doing), the poll-ees pay big time. A lot of people simply do not want to admit to themselves just how badly Obama has been miscast, not to mention their part in the miscasting.

  125. has obama ever said the US doesn’t torture.

  126. lol, myiq, and you got that past spammy how?

  127. i want restoration, isn’t that what obama promised.

    restoration?

This is huge news across the pond. They are bull at Obama for threatening the UK with their security if they dared make public the torture tactics used.

    It is pretty sick.

this guy has been cleared and he is on a hunger strike in a prison in the UK.

  128. has obama ever said the US doesn’t torture

I’ll bet ya lunch he never admits we did (or still do)

  129. Yes, Kim,

because the elitist political class believes they are entitled to spend our money as they wish. In Chicago it pays for expensive limosines and many other amenities taxpayers do not provide themselves. However, as our feudal lord Rangel says, allegedly his consituents want him to live high on the hog.

  130. i bet with you miq.

  131. the obama admin told the UK that they would stop sharing intelligence with them if they gave US secrets away.

The secrets regarding rendition and torture.

  132. I wonder if anyone will ask him about this torture stuff or “enhanced interrogation”?

    I won’t hold my breath.

  133. I am back from my walk-golly 5.5 miles I feel sore but good!

  134. WTF?

BO Inc. made threats about the future safety of Britons in order to… protect torturers?

    WTF?

  135. yes, alice.

  136. Taggles,

He is picking the questioners ahead of time. I’m sure they will have to submit their questions in advance. He’s worse than Bush.

  137. really BB? he is picking his questioners ahead of time. do you have a link I can read?

  138. Throw money at it with no accountable. That’ll fix it fer sure…

Sick of the spending spree. That money should have been given in increments when certain things along certain timelines were met.

  139. “The attorney general has directed that senior Justice Department officials review all assertions of the state secrets privilege to ensure that the privilege is being invoked only in legally appropriate situations,” he said. “It is vital that we protect information that, if released, could jeopardize national security.”

The court papers describe horrific treatment in secret prisons. Mr. Mohamed claimed, for example, that during his detention in Morocco, “he was routinely beaten, suffering broken bones and, on occasion, loss of consciousness. His clothes were cut off with a scalpel and the same scalpel was then used to make incisions on his body, including his penis. A hot stinging liquid was then poured into open wounds on his penis where he had been cut. He was frequently threatened with rape, electrocution and death.”

  140. Hi Taggles!! {{{ waving}}}

    I’m watching the video tonight.

  141. hey sod! no botv tonight for you?

  142. I’m sorry to hear Rihana was assaulted and hope the scumbag that hurt her gets bitten by a rabid dog!

The video on the Sept. 15 run on the Money Accounts was great! But WHY did this run on the money accounts start and by whom?????

  143. Just read Afrocity’s comment above! Great reply to her relative about Hillary’s being white and a woman….her quick retort was very fittingly and beautifully expressed!!

  144. I’m torn between panic at the potential speed of bank runs today and a Bart-Simpsonesqye “Cool!” at the 21st centuriness of it all.
