The people who need to a good shit-kicking are most politicians, CEOs, and senior civilians. Well, and cops, obviously. And they need to know the cops can’t protect them from another one. The President, the mayor of New York, the Governor of New York, almost everyone who works for the Federal Reserve, all senior Wall […]

We Interrupt your Election Coverage for World Ballet Day

Yes, it’s that time again. I know, it snuck up on me too.

It’s World Ballet Day. This is the day when world class ballet companies all over the world invite you to attend their classes, live, and take you through rehearsals with their principals and soloists.

My current favorite ballet company, the Royal Ballet, will be streaming their events on its facebook page.

Joy Womack, currently a principal at the Kremlin Ballet in Moscow, will also be putting up videos. Check her youtube page out here for more of her videos.

Finally, I leave you with one of George Balanchine’s first ballets choreographed in the United States, the lovely, ethereal Serenade with music by Tchaikovsky.

Take a break, chill, sip your mug of hot spiced cider, grab your chair, do some plies, listen to some glorious music.

Enjoy.

Unsurprised and Ballet Season

I’m not surprised that we have terrorists in this country that have decided to go after soft targets. It only surprises me that it took so long. This is what happens when you destabilize a region by going to war unnecessarily. The Islamic State is a product of the Iraq War.

And then there is the easy access to guns and ammunition in the US. It’s almost like we are asking for it.

Anyway, we should probably get used to this until 1.) the noise machine stops beating the war drums for every possible reason 2.) we start controlling guns and ammunition and 3.) we stop using so much oil.

Yeah, that’s the ticket. You want to get the Saudis and Iranians to crack down on the terrorism and destabilize the region? Stop using oil. That will focus their attention.

In the meantime, here’s something more pleasant to watch. Joy Womack is touring Russia with a troupe of Russian ballet dancers. She’s currently a principal at the Kremlin Ballet but right now, she’s only dancing one of the fairy roles in Sleeping Beauty for the  Kremlin. So, what do you do when your roles are on hold and you need to keep your body in good shape? You tour to places you have never heard of and can’t pronounce. This is a great view into what Russia is like outside of Moscow.

Take it away Joy!

And Part 2

I might even try the Prima Bar. I’m only dance in my dreams but I’m damn hungry at my desk and my company puts nothing but flavorless and healthy snacks in the vending machines. (What?? There’s no chocolate in the vending machine?? Nooooo!!!)

Joy makes a living from her Prima Bars because salaries for dancers is pretty crappy, no matter where you live. So, if you like her videos, and I do, think about buying some snack bars.

End of Summer Bliss: Ballet on the Beach

Have I got a ballet treat for you, even if you don’t think you like ballet.  Joy Womack, formerly of the Bolshoi and now a principal dancer at the Kremlin Ballet, was filmed (what a quaint word) dancing on the beach this summer.  I’m guessing the beach was somewhere in California where Joy’s family lives.

This video captures the athleticism and strength of modern ballet.  Pointe shoes not required.

Enjoy!
