    • Is It Dangerous To Hit Targets Inside Russia?
Now, to be clear, a few targets have been hit in fairly minor ways, but let’s assume a real strike with Western provided weapons. The opinion below has been stated often. Stupid Football Stories

Is the Brady football story the dumbest story of the year so far? The Small-Evil-Group that runs the world, and to which no one we know personally belongs, must be trying to divert attention from something important if they are dangling this shiny object.

Under inflated footballs is not a story. Seriously. I can prove that an under inflated football has no effect on the outcome of a game. Here it is:

So, Bradshaw threw the ball, it was *almost* intercepted, but due to physics, angles and the Virgin Mary, it collided inelastically and right into the loving arms of Franco Harris.

Now, I guess you could say that with an under inflated football, the force of the collision would make the ball more like a lead zeppelin and less likely to ricochet but doesn’t that also suggest that the interception would have been successful and Harris and the Steelers would have gone home with nothing? Weird things do happen when fast moving flying objects hurtle through a crowded field. Anyone could catch it if they’re in the right place. The trick is to make sure you’re in the right place.

An under inflated ball is agnostic as to team membership. When Brady engineers the ball to act like a drone zeroing in on only members of his team who are wearing secret tracking devices, then I’ll care.

In other words, the best offense is a good defense, or something like that. The game was a blowout. The ball had nothing to do with it.

Now, what is it we’re supposed to be paying attention to?

Punishing Penn State football is a “dumb idea”

I used to work in Happy Valley and as a former Pitt alum, it was pretty unpleasant.  State College is a football town, noooooo doubt about it.  Come the weekend, I couldn’t get out of town fast enough, what with the unbroken line of alumni cars winding their way up Rt 322 and the snarl of the Nittany Lion on the radio after every song.  It got old really fast and was the longest two years of my life.

But I agree with James Carville that suspending Penn State’s football team is pretty stupid.  I don’t recall any of the current players being accused of sexual assault of boys.  Oh sure, the administrators and Paterno knew what was going on but what does that have to do with the players?  What does that have to do with the entire student body, except some of them took hero worship so far they couldn’t tell when their hero turned out to have feet of clay?  And anyway, Paterno’s dead, although it looks like he started his decomposition prematurely a few years ago.  Why in Gawd’s name didn’t he retire twenty years ago??

I understand the desire to punish.  But this is like, “I’m not saying it was your fault, I’m saying we’re going to blame you.”  Punishing the team creates a whole new set of victims.  Punish the coaches instead, fire all of the staff but don’t deprive the town, students and players from being insufferable football fans.  The quicker the right people are held accountable, the quicker the place can get back to normal.

Football is all they have.  Without it, State College is just plain fricking boring and they’ll be left to competitive cow tipping.

Liveblog: Football Playoffs

The Colts are headed to the Superbowl! Now who will they face in Miami, the Vikings or the Saints? The second playoff game starts soon. Let’s talk about it!

Brett Favre

It’s old man Brett Favre against young whippersnapper Drew Brees. Who will be victorious?

Drew Brees

Where is Dakinikat?

Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts

It’s half-time in the Colts-Jets playoff game. The winner will get to go to Miami for the Superbowl. The score at the half is 17-13 Jets. So far the Jets have gotten the better of the Colts, sacking Manning twice and forcing a turnover, but the Colts managed a touchdown just before half-time.

Seventeen-thirteen looks a lot better than Seventeen-six, which was what it was close to the end of the second quarter. It looks to me like the Jets are doing a good job of anticipating where Manning is going to throw the ball, so I hope they come up with some different plays while they’re in the locker room.

The Wall Street Journal has a live diary of the games, updated frequently.

This is an open thread. If you don’t want to discuss football, you can still join in.

Go Colts!!!!!!!

Oh, here are the Jets. Joe Namath is reportedly in Indy watching the game.

Steelers vs. Ravens Live Blog

Thou shalt root for the Steelers.  Violaters will be spammed.

Just kidding.

(Or *am* I?)

I have leftover Chinese food or a Bastille Salad.  I made the last thing up based on a salad I had at a brasserie near the Bastille when I was on a business trip.  Bacon gives me a lardon so I used 3 slices of thick cut bacon and chopped them into bite sized pieces.  For the rest, make a nice French vinaigrette and toss in some boiled new potatoes and steamed green beans.  Toss.  Mix some salad greens with English salad cream.  Sprinkle with lardons, small cubes of cheese like gruyere and tomato wedges.  Top with marinated potatoes and green beans.  Garnish with boiled egg.  (I hate boiled egg but that’s what was on it so if you like them, go for it).

Preferably eaten with baguette and some white wine.  Screw it, I’m drinking the last beers.

Go Steelers!

And for those of you who don’t like football, don’t forget that Angienc2 is co-hosting tonight with Sheri Tag on NO WE WON’T tonight at 8PM on PUMA UNITED RADIO (PURrrr)
