The saddest thing about this ad is it’s mere existence. Women in politics have been called witches for a long time. For example:

This is mostly due to jealousy. O’Donnell WISHES she could be as bad ass as a witch. But it is also because people seem to think it is a demeaning and derogatory insult to call a woman a witch. I mean, when people call me a witch I toss my hair and say, “why, thank you.” But maybe that’s just me.
By saying, “I’m not a witch,” O’Donnell may not be mimicking Nixon’s “I’m not a crook.” Obviously, everyone knows she isn’t a witch, because that is extremely silly. But what is even sillier is the fact that PINOs have been so shrill about her “dabbling in witchcraft” comments when instead they could have been focusing on her extreme views and stances on the issues, which are much more alarming.
A recent study by Captain Obvious found that sexist attacks and sexist media coverage hurt women who run for public office politically, and that when faced with such obstacles, they should always respond to them. By responding to Obots who would rather call her a witch (And seriously, WHY? We don’t want her) than point out things like this:

The children’s show says it won’t air a taped segment featuring the “California Gurls” singer and Elmo. The pop star — who is known for her risque outfits — wore a gold bustier top as she sang a version of her hit “Hot N Cold.” But some felt it was too revealing for the kid set.
Well we certainly don’t want our children exposed to women’s breasts. It might traumatize them.
Maybe we should require our wimmenz to cover up all their flesh when they appear in public so they don’t cause our fine upstanding menfork to have lewd, lascivious and immoral thoughts.

A new group has formed to campaign against Christine O’Donnell, the GOP/TP nominee for the Senate in Delaware. Progressive Onanists Opposed to O’Donnell (POOO) believe that her stance against masturbation violates their fundamental rights.
“Wanking is not a lifestyle choice!” said Hairy Seed, founder and president of POOO. “We have a right to self-gratification.”
Seed first gained fame for his seminal work, “Lubes, Lotions and One-Handed Blogging, a guide for Obama Supporters” where he stated “Thousands of Obama supporters are coming together over the internet every day.” He is also the author of “Blogstalking – How to obtain sexual thrills while avoiding restraining orders.”
Kudos to the President for nominating another lady to the supreme court. Well done. But something’s not right here. What is it…? Oh, yeah.
I’m really, really glad Obama chose a woman. I really, really wish she were more liberal. I suspect she’ll be okay on Roe and other “social issues,” but her attitude to executive power is alarming.

As a White House adviser in 1997, Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan urged then-President Bill Clinton to support a ban on late-term abortions, a political compromise that put the administration at odds with abortion rights groups.
Documents reviewed Monday by The Associated Press show Kagan encouraging Clinton to support a bill that would have banned all abortions of viable fetuses except when the physical health of the mother was at risk. The documents from Clinton’s presidential library are among the first to surface in which Kagan weighs in the thorny issue of abortion.
The abortion proposal was a compromise by Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle. Clinton supported it, but the proposal failed and Clinton vetoed a stricter Republican ban.
In a May 13, 1997, memo from the White House domestic policy office, Kagan and her boss, Bruce Reed, told Clinton that abortion rights groups opposed Daschle’s compromise. But they urged the president to support it, saying he otherwise risked seeing a Republican-led Congress override his veto on the stricter bill.
Oh. But still! Since Kagan is probably a lezbo, she must support gay marriage, right? Wrong.
The meme has taken hold that Kagan is a stealth candidate who has avoided taking positions on important constitutional or other issues throughout her career.
But on one issue of critical importance to the left — the constitutional right to same-sex marriage, Kagan has staked out a very clear and unequivocal position: There is no constitutional right to same-sex marriage.
In the course of her nomination for Solicitor General, Kagan filled out questionnaires on a variety of issues. While she bobbed and weaved on many issues, with standard invocations of the need to follow precedent and enforce presumptively valid statutes, on the issue of same-sex marriage Kagan was unequivocal.
“Like Harriet Miers, she doesn’t have a record to tell us how she would adjudicate from the bench. They led a rebellion against the executive branch and the same thing should happen here.”
“I object to appointment somebody that has no track record. Corporate power is a big one because of the Citizens United decision, and also Miranda. There are a lot of things where it would be helpful to be able to examine past writings.”
“If I was in the Senate, I would vote no, because like Harriet Miers she doesn’t have the judicial experience.”

There is something fundamentally wrong about this. Everyone is used to Obama constantly rejecting his base. They are like devoted mistresses who constantly tell themselves that their boyfriends will leave their wives–he is just making a compromise right now; it’s a secret game of eleven dimensional chest and during the election time he will come crawling back. But really, why do liberals have to compromise in the first place?

On her media tour for her memoir, Spoken from the Heart, Laura Bush stopped by Larry King Live, where she opened up for the first time about her advocacy for marriage equality, as well as her belief that Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision regarding a woman’s right to an abortion, should be upheld.

The world is going insane, and while normally I like insanity, this is not the good kind. I find myself–and we all must admit that I am normally so cheerful and chipper, yes, you know you all love me– I find myself feeling gloomy. I’m walking around campus with my hands shoved in the pockets of my fake leather jacket with a cigarette hanging out of my mouth–and I don’t even smoke! Security officers are mistaking me for troubled youth and are performing random searches on me.
Well, I am troubled. I’m troubled about a lot of things, but in terms of politics and current events, I am troubled about the fact that, as MYIQ said a few weeks ago, there appears to be no end in sight.
But what really has me bummed out right now is the realization that there is no end in sight for the mess this country is in. The single biggest problem facing our nation is the illness in our political system. When I say “illness” I mean the equivalent of an inoperable cancer that has metastasized. If we fixed our political system then we would actually be able to do something about those other problems.
For most of my adult life I believed that the Democrats were the good guys so even when they were getting slapped around by the Republicans I could support them and hope that after the next election they would grow a pair and start standing up for the liberal ideals they campaigned on.
I finally realized that the majority of the Democrats who hold elected office are not only corrupt but they have the same agenda as the Republicans. Oh, the say they’re on our side, and when it’s time for them to represent us they might make some speeches andr play some parliamentary tricks but when the nitty meets the gritty they lose on purpose. Lots of times they don’t even bother to put on a dog and pony show anymore, they just vote to bail out Wall Street or take away our civil rights as if that’s what we wanted them to do.
Now as far back as I can remember the Republicans were corrupt and they tended to be pricks or assholes, and sometimes both, but they weren’t insane. Nowadays there’s a lot of GOPers that are crazy as shithouse rats. That not only includes the elected ones but the voters too. Then you got the tea baggers who don’t think the Republicans are crazy enough.
I can’t believe that I am living in a country–I country I have grown up loving with every fiber of my being despite its flaws–where this is happening. The passage of a bill that bails out the Health Care Industry is historic! And in honor of Women’s History Month we passed it on the backs of women and their reproductive rights! Cats bark! Fish have tails! Catholic Priests are ethical in their treatment of young children!
The whole world is going mad I tell you! MAAAADDDDD!
Of course, intellectually I understand, there is always hope. Democrats are going to lose a lot of seats in November and while the Republicans that come into office will be even worse, the door will open for real liberals, not phony “progressives,” to show Donna Brazile and Howard Dean’s “New Coalition” to be ineffective and thus we will be able to take our party back.
But sometimes, in this Golden Era of Hope and Change, politics just isn’t enough. For once in our lives, we needed policy. Good policy that would actually have given broke-ass students like me real Health Insurance. Just a few weeks ago, before my spring break, I came down with the flu and missed a week of classes I’m still making up. If I had insurance, I might have been able to get antibiotics and missed only one day, maybe two. This bill does nothing to help me. For one thing, I’ll be done with my undergraduates and possibly even my graduates by 2014. At this rate I’m going to have to start stripping for my ‘scrips, just like a number of poor senior citizens who will shortly be facing cuts in medicare due to this lame-assed bill.
Sometimes, I get tired. Sometimes, I don’t want to live life day to day anymore. Sometimes I think things will never get better. Trying to get something to eat, trying to fill up my gas tank–always being hungry, worrying about my mom, worrying about my friends, worrying about all the people around me at my school who are going through the same thing.
Sometimes, honestly, I’m just tired. And today, forgive me, but I have to lament over the fact that politics took precedence over policy. Sorry.
Tonight Barack Obama will make a very important speech about the conflict in Afghanistan. It is crucial that we rally support for our President as he implements his new strategy. Here’s how you can help:
1. During and after the speech you should post comments on your favorite blogs praising the speech and the President’s policies.
2. Be sure to mention how inspiring the speech was, and how President Obama has proven his mettle as a war-time President. It wouldn’t hurt to throw a jab at you-know-who by saying “he’s answered that 3 am call.”
3. It is important that you point out that President Obama carefully weighed the advice of all the experts, but made his own decision. Use terms like “firm, but measured” and “carefully crafted” to describe the new policy.
4. Don’t forget to place the blame for conflict where it belongs – on Bill Clinton. If he hadn’t been fooling around with Monica Lewinsky he would have captured Osama bin Laden back in the nineties. But also mention how George Bush made a mess of things too.
5. Personalize your comments as much as possible by describing how people you know are serving in the military. If you have relatives that served in previous wars mention them too. If you don’t know anyone that is or has served, just make it up.
6. Last but not least, remind people that President Obama promised to “finish the job” in Afghanistan during the campaign. It was the war in Iraq that he opposed.

Today, the Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics to President Barack Obama. Citing his intention to pull the country and the world out of the deepest recession since The Great Depression, the Nobel committee said that it was inspired by the President’s ability to promote a sense of financial well-being in the world’s bankers.
“President Obama has transformed Reagan’s vision of trickle down economics into something that rains down on all of us”, The Committee chair announced. “Besides, we had one prize left and thought, what the heck! We have a crush on Obama. B-to-the-A-to-the-R-A-C-K O-B-A-M-A!”
When reminded of Elizabeth Warren’s warning that the real economy has been hollowed out by decades of deregulation of the financial industry that has left the country with a very fragile economy and that Obama has essentially continued and extended former President George Bush’s economic policies, the committee said that Elizabeth Warren was not a ‘serious person’ but a ‘cotton headed ninny muggins’ who is ‘childishly impatient’. “Elizabeth Warren is much too concerned with the immediate impact of the financial bailout on the average consumer. We advise her to wait and see what happens. We are awarding this prize pre-emptively to demonstrate that Obama will do what he should have done anyway without any expectation of an award. Call it, ‘The Audacity of Hope’. D’OH! Lars, take a note. Make sure Obama gets the prize next year for Literature.”
The Nobel Committee said that it would spend the rest of the year figuring out ways President Obama could camp on the Prizes in Medicine, Chemistry and Physics but thought that they could swing it if they knocked a couple of hardworking women out of the running.
Meanwhile, the DNC released a statement condemning those who thought the Prize premature and lowering the threshhold of accountability to farcical levels as expressing “obviously racist tendencies”. Users at the blog, The Confluence, a liberal site of former Democrats now dedicated to holding Obama accountable to the people his campaign steamrolled on his way to the presidency, rolled their eyes and said this Prize will not alter their outlook on Obama’s presidency, which they deemed a failure before it even started. “We waited eight long years to get rid of Bush only to be disenfranchised during the primaries and stuck with this weakling for four years”, Confluence proprietor RD said, “Prize or no prize, we expect him to do the right thing by America’s voters. We’re not going to let no starry-eyed, lutefisk eaters try to tell us what to think.”
But when Bush the Second talked about how we had to fight Them over there if we didn’t want to fight Them over here, he knew what he was talking about because he had access to secret information.

I’ve been wondering what’ll happen when people wake up to the depth of the con. Now I know. Nothing will happen. Waking up isn’t part of the plan. If they have to stop dreaming, they’ll just start hallucinating.

That loss of rosy faith is not based on the fact that he’s broken every campaign promise he’s made, starting with not ending the war, the torture, the surveillance, the imperial Presidency, going on with not even trying to deliver on health care for all, and continuing through an endless list.
The pollsters say the loss comes from him being a Muslim Kenyan Socialist Nazi gun-hating terrorist-loving radical leftie.

A man who’s never since childhood spoken with an aunt, dearly beloved as per his book, an aunt who turns out to be barely scraping by in a Boston housing project, such a man knows less about the Kenyan concept of family than I do, to say nothing of actually having anything Kenyan about him.
A man who throws about a trillion taxpayer dollars (a trillion for God’s sake) at Wall Street without even trying to stop it from being used to pay obscene bonuses is not a socialist. (There was a feeble attempt after it hit the news, but the attempt was so weak, it died in the Senate without a word from him.)
A man whose concept of breakthrough thinking is begging Republicans to approve of his every word is so far from being a radical I’d call him a milquetoast.
But none of this is why people are losing that warm fuzzy feeling about him. It’s not even that they’re put off, at last, by the way he’s conveniently oblivious to vile misogyny, his own and his followers’. Or his arrogant disregard of gays. Or the cynical use of racism to squelch a few more voices.
It’s that he’s a socialist radical dictator freak.
And judging by the skid marks, these people brake for hallucinations.
Billionaires for Wealthcare, a newly formed lobbying group in California, is adding its voice to town hall protests against government interference in the U.S. health care system. You think you have a right to health care? Forget about it. One sign held by a “billionaire” protester in Spring Valley, CA read “If God loved the poor people, he wouldn’t let them get sick.” Another sign read “We love BlueDogs. A solid investment in healthcare profiteering.”
If you’re a billionaire who wants to hold onto your riches, join the movement. You can download and print signs with messages like “NO to Socialism, YES to Feudalism” and “Private Health Care: Because Corporations Know What’s Good for You” from this page, or you can dream up wealth-supporting signs of your own.
The group’s video is overly long and somewhat amateurish, but it gives you a sense of the energy behind this new movement to rescue the very very wealthy from any changes in the status quo.
