The right and its media enablers are puzzling like a bunch of Grinches after the midterm election. They can’t understand why sooo many clueless Whos voted for some of the people they have spent the last few years demonizing. Biden was a doddering dotard. Fetterman couldn’t string two words together. Gretchen Whitmer is a bitch. Naaaaancy!
They really can’t wrap their heads around the fact that we LIKE these people. Like genuinely think they are doing the right thing in the best way they can right now. They haven’t been running in a popularity contest. They’re climbing real mountains. It has been one thing after another: crazy MAGA Republicans flinging poop for years, a kidnapping attempt, an insurrection, a global pandemic, a manufactured energy crisis, the war in Ukraine, a stroke.
But they remained calm, worked together, prioritized, persevered and prevailed. Their opponents are livid. The enablers who were so concerned with being excluded and who carried the water to make them look bad are confused. Why didn’t it work?
Because Biden turned out to be Dark Brandon. We underestimated him.
Fetterman turned out to have a soul and superhuman determination to campaign during his recovery.
Whitmer drew upon some inner force to make the hard calls even when she knew it was unpopular.
We can’t forget the contributions of Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger who battled their own party, constituents, death threats and dehumanization to get the truth out abf defend their country even if it meant siding with the Democrats. I will never forget that and have immense respect for both of them.
Nancy Pelosi saved the country on January 6 by keeping her shit together, prioritizing, delegating and getting the band back together and on the House floor as soon as she could.
In the moment, not one of these people were thinking about how they looked or spoke or that they weren’t perfect. If they heard the juvenile nicknames, they didn’t let it stop them. They didn’t flinch from criticism or taunts or fear from being kicked out of the in-crowd.
It was just enough. We may have just enough persuasive power on the side of democracy to hold out another two years. The MAGA wave may have peaked. We may have learned how to fight it. Most of us might have immunity now. It doesn’t mean there won’t be more assaults and battles lost but we know what we’re up against and we have adapted.
And now this: Kherson has been liberated.
For months, the GOP has taken the Russian side. They talking points were all about sending our tax dollars to a war we had nothing to do with and it was costing more at the gas pump. So much whining about a temporary crisis without any insight about the strategic global importance of Ukraine.
For months we have been hearing shrieks about nuclear wars and how we should force Zelenskyy to the negotiating table. How NATO was running the show and it was a proxy war.
And now this:
Ukrainians did that with our help, the EU’s help, NATO’s help and the help of all democracy loving nations around the world. Russia is losing. Putin is disgraced, as are any US politicians who took his side or advocated for the easy way out.
It’s not over yet. There are battles yet to come and decisions to be made. But it sure feels good to be on the good guys’ side in history.
Allies, fortitude, competence, and a positive vision for the world wins every time and no matter how long it takes, we never give up.
Slava Ukraini!
Heroyam Slava, wherever they are.
