Sen. Mike Lee’s Objective: Phase Out Social Security

You have to wonder why it is they are so hell bent to dismantle the most reliable source of income for millions of Americans. They’re deferred income payments that workers earned over the course of their working lives. It’s not a gift. It’s a savings plan.

Pfffft!, says Lee:

That goes for Medicare and Medicaid too. I’m not sure what he thinks we’re supposed to do with all the sick people with no money for health insurance but that’s not Lee’s problem. He’s on a mission.

Sure, it’s from twelve years ago. So we shouldn’t ask him if this is still his objective? Quick! Someone go ask Lee if that’s his objective.

Eisenhower warned us about politicians like Lee. He thought they were nuts for wanting to bust people down to an insecure retirement, if they could retire at all. They had forgotten the lessons of The Great Depression when Seniors lost their money in the crash, didn’t have pensions, and didn’t have money to spend to keep the economy afloat.

What is it that shriveled the souls of Republicans like Lee? He and Rick Scott are open about what their plans are. We can only imagine what the rest of McConnell’s bunch is thinking.

“Oh, they would never do that.” Or “They’re going to see if you really need it” are the two most naive statements a voter can make. There is nothing good about this. Nothing. It will undermine the system, make workers reluctant to contribute to a fund they can’t rely on in the future, and the result will be phasing it out.

If they get a majority in the senate and the house, they can phase it out quicker.

Oh, yes they would. When they tell you what they’re thinking, believe them.

  1. It is unfortunate that this evil agenda is not the primary talking point of every democratic candidate. It seems to be about the only thing that may sway some republicans who may still have some see some value in voting their self interest. It is a lost opportunity.

  2. Well, this was the seed for the obscene hatred of FDR. It is the feature that defines the GOP. The GOP thinks all the money is their money. It is that simple.

    • I am waiting for “let’s take bread away from the hungry” greeted by cheers of “yeah!” and “no more socialism!” coming next

  3. And yet many seniors still continue to vote Republican. Don’t they know any better by now? The Christian brainwashing is hard to break I guess.

Hillary was on Joy Reid’s show speaking against the right’s radicalism. “Why would you (as voters) trust a candidate who jokes about hammering Paul Pelosi?” We may have to reintroduce ‘context clues’ to people, they clearly didn’t get the message in primary school. What part of “pull it up from the roots & get rid of it” didn’t you understand little Tommy & Susie?

  4. Most people understand very little about the complexity of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. That’s why so many attorneys and ‘financial planners’ in this country specialize in those areas. Blaming ordinary people for not being retirement planning experts won’t help. From now until election day, Democrats should be hammering away at Republicans for wanting to destroy these programs, which provide the primary safety net for most Americans.

    • Yes, I have been saying that. This is the most powerful and galvanizing message the Democrats would have, and they waited so long to start using it.

I saw someone keep insisting that Republicans would never do that! I think he believes it. Of course they will. One day, people are going to realize what they voted for, if they let Republicans take over the Congress. That will not do us any good at that point, though. I think about the England of Charles Dickens’ novel “Hard Times.”

      • People who like drinking games, maybe with lemonade, might want to play the “But” game, how many times the media will say today, “The jobs report is positive, BUT.” They are incapable of not saying “but” after any piece of positive news about the economy or Democrats.

  5. If anyone is looking for positive news, the MeidasTouch podcast had a long interview with Simon Rosenberg yesterday (Nov. 3rd) entitled “Early Voting Data Shows Democrats LEADING Midterms”. It can be found on You Tube.
