I first thought that the focus on the police response was a typical NRA-based distraction, but it seems that it is a big story, the police deliberately did not go into the building for many minutes, threatened parents from going into the building and trying to do something, while they searched for their own children in the school to save them. It does not change the absolute need to change gun laws, but it also shows that the ‘good guys with guns” are perhaps sometimes not so good, and are more interested in saving themselves and their own children than in fulfilling the requirements of their job. Of course, who wants to go into a building trying to contest a person with one or multiple assault rifles; we might see a dropoff in people signing on for that kind of work, and then what will the Republicans say about the gun violence issue?
