    • The Joy of Reading & The Discovery Of New Author (Nero Wolfe Edition)
I’ve been a big reader since I was perhaps 7 years old. In grade one I actually had remedial English: I’d been taught both whole word and phonics and it had screwed me up. Once I learned to actually read, I fell in love with it, trudging to the library, taking out the maximum and luxuriating in other worlds and other lives. I always find the strivers, attemp […]

Fitness Fab: it was that gd referendum.

This new job thing is starting to be fun. I might just have a future in this stuff. For the first time in 10 years, I slept with the lights off and through the night by myself. Some people get tranquility handed to them. Some of us have to work like freaking demons.

The last four years were very demoralizing in the work department. Don’t even get me started. I’m not really applying much of what I learned from it because I learned very little. There just wasn’t enough scope and I’m not happy doing the same tasks over and over again without variation.

No, it turns out that I have a reserve skill set that I picked up when I was on the school board years ago. It was that gd referendum, the project proposals I read, the construction company’s layout of the lab wing and convincing another board member that it was a dumb not very cost effective idea to put the art rooms adjacent to the autoclaves. It was all that public speaking and facilitating committee meetings and listening to educators explain the latest curriculum fads. It was the relentless pace of full time work, taking classes and then staying up until 2am debating a libertarian. It was preventing the board member next to me from launching over the table to throttle that same libertarian. It was doing the whole thing over when the initial referendum lost by just over 300 votes.

So there you go. That’s what I was thinking about when I was on the treadmill today. I had a little more energy this week than last week. In fact I’m a little ahead of myself at work. My mind is ticking away, it’s got plans.

This came on my playlist right after Britney finished Work. It’s NSFW so don’t play it on your portable speaker during a meeting. Think of the lyrics as onomatopoeic if you’re sensitive to the cursey words.

I’m still easing back into working out due to my foot injury. This song was about a 3.2 pace on the treadmill.
