I’ve been a big reader since I was perhaps 7 years old. In grade one I actually had remedial English: I’d been taught both whole word and phonics and it had screwed me up. Once I learned to actually read, I fell in love with it, trudging to the library, taking out the maximum and luxuriating in other worlds and other lives. I always find the strivers, attemp […]

Two soldiers on their way…

Two soldiers on their way

One wore blue and one wore gray

It’s never a good thing when one side calls the other unPatriotic. We’ve seen how that played out in Germany, Rwanda, Bosnia, Syria.

The person or persons who would lead us down this road shouldn’t be trusted.

I’m wearing blue.

******************

The disturbing news out of England is that they now have to deal with a Covid mutation that makes transmission of the virus spread faster. If you’ve ever played Plague you’ll know how this works. The game allows nature to tweak the genetics to make the disease vector easier to spread. It can also make it more lethal. I highly encourage everyone to go play that game, make up your own disease vector, set your starting parameters and see what happens. Once you’ve figured out how easy it is to make the human race extinct, you’ll take your mask a lot more seriously.

Nature will do this when it has millions of human incubators in which it can swap genes. The more transmissions, the more chances for mutations. The more mutations, the greater the possibility that the vaccine will be ineffective. The greater the possibility of an ineffective vaccine, the more likely the population will need to turn to the only millennia old way that has proven to stop the transmission of disease.

Quarantine.

I didn’t make these rules. I take no credit for spelling this out. It’s not my fault that what I and other scientists are saying comes off sounding sanctimonious from a bunch of know it alls. Blame the self interested for planting those ideas in peoples’ heads.

This isn’t political. It’s not about freedom or patriotism or which side you’re on. This is the way nature works. Nature is so much bigger that it makes politics and nations insignificant. If you’re following this disaster from a national point of view, you’re missing the whole picture.

You can’t get away from nature. It’s everywhere. The more you try to deny it, the more you let it do its thing. The best you can do is understand it and learn from it. Learn and respect it. The more you learn, the less you fear. “Fear is the mind killer”. What we’ve got going for us as a species is the ability to learn and adapt.

Organisms that fail to adapt to changes in their natural environment die. This is the actual meaning of “survival of the fittest”.

Wear your damn mask. Everywhere.
