  1. With perhaps a very rare exception, the donors are social darwinists who believe that their success and what they see as the failure of the poor and hungry are a result of variations in personal characteristics which make them better, and thus deserving of their financial superiority. The Trump masses, who are mostly struggling themselves, have substituted a kind of cultish fervor in place of human empathy, to give their lives meaning. So they would much rather give money to Trump, than to anyone more like them, because they don’t want to help others like them, they want to do something to hurt the many people they hate, so Trump offers them a supposed mechanism to do that, although actually he keeps all the money for himself. They give out of tribal adoration and generalized hate, not out of any concern for other people. Sadly enough, they are much more gratified by doing that. It is actually terrifying, although we have seen it in various other cultures and eras. The truest, maybe the only true, thing that Trump ever said, was that he could shoot someone in plain sight, and his followers would not care. They might even cheer for him. There are good people out there who try to help in many ways, but the Trump cult is not made up of them.

  2. Apparently Trump was allowed by Zuckerberg to put a “”speech” on Facebook, where he made all sorts of claims about election fraud. What I have not seen on the news media, though I am watching it less, is a simple debunking of this malevolent inanity.

Trump said that the key is checking the signatures on the ballots. This implies, what? That some cabal went around and stole thousands of other people’s ballots, then filled them out, voted against Trump, although they apparently voted for all sorts of Republicans for other offices, then forged the signature of the person whom each ballot was sent to, and mailed it in? Put them all in a big box and dumped them at a post office? How did they steal the ballots? One by one? In almost every state, mail ballots only go to those who requested them, and in all states, they only go to those who are registered. You can’t pick them up from the grocery store, and if you could, how would you know whose name to forge?

We all know that this is absurd, but these claims get aired, as if there might be something behind it, because after all they are claims, so we must bring them up. If someone convicted of a serious crime tried to argue that they didn’t count the jurors’ ballots correctly; that there were impostors in the jury room; that the judge misheard, and the foreperson had said “not guilty,” it would be the stuff of utter mockery, and anyone besides the defendant who claimed this, would be charged with a crime. But not here. Next, Trump will say that ghouls from beyond the grave tampered with the ballots, and the media will mention that, too. We are in a world where anything one says is given at least some credence, most particularly if they are a Republican/. And without rationality and the ability to use logic to differentiate the truth from complete lies propagated by totalitarians, how do we function as a country? The only other alternative is “might makes right,” the only truth is what the fascist dictator says. We truly do not want to go there, but there are apparently 70 million or so people who would willingly give up any interest in facts, knowledge, logic or science, to have a dictator not only tell them what to do, but to tell them what their reality is at every moment, punishment of death for anyone who sees it any way differently. Am i really exaggerating here? Those Republicans who are apparently admitting that Trump lost without their being fraud, but who do not want to say it publicly, have gone far beyond the deep end in service to totalitarian “reality.”

    • As Wills mentioned in passing, if the Democrats were going to steal the Presidency, why would they not steal a Senate majority as well, and pad their lead in the House as well? 😛
