Roll credits:
1. Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s Secretary of State *
That’s it. That’s all I got.
* Appearance on this list does not imply endorsement of the Republican Party nor does it indicate that Mr. Raffensperger is a Democrat, knows Democrats or includes Democrats as personal friends. We can be fairly certain that we would find Brad’s opinions on many topics to be odious. However, he appears to have put country before party in this one case so he deserves recognition but not a “schwing!” What Mr. Raffensperger has done shouldn’t be remarkable and yet, here we are, calling it out, because it is so rare in 2020.
Sorry about that, Brad. We hope the death threats stop.

We are learning a little more about why Giuliani wants to throw out ALL of the mail in ballots from 7 counties:
Giuliani argued all mail-in ballots from seven democratic counties, including Allegheny County, should be disqualified and not counted.
“Mail-in ballots are exceptionally dangerous…We weren’t allowed to observe absentee ballot counting…There were 1.5 million absentee ballots that Republicans could not see…This is an outrage…They stole an election,” said Giuliani.
Well, that makes more sense than the other objections I’ve heard about mail in ballots. Apparently, it’s an insult to black voters to assume they are mentally or physically incapable of using their polling locations. Like I said, I’m not sure I’m buying it… nah, not working for me.
It’s about *choices*, Trump nuggets. We have the freedom to choose how we want to vote and now that we have legit paper trails with mail ins, coupled with the freedom from standing in hours long lines and exposure to Covid, this seemed to be a rational choice expressed by hundreds of thousands of people in those 7 counties and some of us aren’t even black.
Soooo… there’s that.
But the weirdest thing is, I never even considered how dangerous my mail in ballot was. I had no idea that they could spontaneously combust and people could be disfigured. Why didn’t anyone tell me?? Why didn’t they send asbestos gloves and blast shields with them? I feel like my trust has been violated. Voting by mail is all fun and games until somebody loses an eye. There should be black box labels on those things or a PSA from the surgeon general.
Warning: voting by mail is a dangerous activity by reprobates who enjoy risk taking behavior. Side effects include maiming, mutilation and possible death. Studies have shown that people who vote by mail are, um, well, actually, we’re just making shit up. There are no studies. It’s just pieces of paper with words on it and little circles to be completed in blue or black ink. Or sharpies. Turns out there’s nothing wrong with sharpies. Sorry for the misdirect. Alright, you know what? Forget we mentioned it.
🙄
But it’s absolutely unforgivable that the Republican monitors weren’t able to see what was going on with a non-zero number of representatives standing 6ft away and using binoculars.
Just sad, really.

I remember when absentee ballots were mostly sent in by Republicans, people who had more money, felt like taking vacations, were too busy to bother to show up at the polls. The early returns from states always favored Republicans, because of their absentee ballots which were counted first. And then Republicans would try various things to lessen the voting day turnout; they would have people send letters listing the wrong day or the wrong polling location; they would intimidate voters in lines. Times have changed, now it is the mail-in ballots from Democrats that they want to suppress or even toss out.
The problem is that far too many people do not understand how awful the Republicans are. Someone like Raffensberger does the minimal job of being a dedicated official, and he is lauded to the skies, because it is so rare for Republicans. Some Republican actually says that Biden won, and people fall all over themselves to applaud him for not saying the usual Republican thing.
People do not understand, or are willfully wrongheaded; they keep voting for Republicans for all sorts of positions, which these Republicans then use to advance their fascism. They vote for Biden, but they vote for Republican senators, even in blue states like Maine. Biden wins Georgia, but they vote more for the Republican candidates for senator. They had voted in so many Republican state legislators in various states in the last ten years, and those people do everything they can to sabotage free elections, even to actually throw out all the Democratic votes and install Republicans forever. When will they ever learn? The only solution is to throw out all of the Republicans, but they won’t do it. So we have the atrocities of what has gone on in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia; we have the cunning fascism of Giuliani and Graham and Cruz and so many others. We have Trump trying to destroy American influence around the world, create hotspots all over, just to make it difficult for Biden, just so they can get on the pliant TV for the next four years and criticize him, just so they can plot to win the House in two years, and completely stall the government, as they did to Obama, and tried very hard to do to Clinton before him. So that they can get a fascist elected president in 2024, and complete the work they have been doing for the last 50 years.
It’s like there are these decent people, and then a horde of zombies; and the voters want to split their votes between them, so that the decent people do not gain enough power; and the media thinks this is very exciting, and is fascinated by the zombies, and all the people that are dedicated to their cause, which is destroying everything around them. And people are pleading with the two groups to work together on something or other. You can’t work with zombies, and you can’t work with fascists, that should have been the lesson of the 1930’s. But the fascists just change their message a little, and suddenly millions of Americans whose parents and grandparents fought for democracy and freedom, are proudly throwing it all away because the fascists have convinced them that being ruled by fascists is actually freedom; from elections, from laws protecting health and the environment, legislation trying to help them survive economically, from any ability to protect the democracy.
Wills, it’s really not that complicated:
Although, there’s also the chance the Rethugs did not really win some of those down-ballot races:

Too many of my people are like that. Ascended Madoka forgive me that I would like to tell all of that type to bend over, so I could wear out a thousand pairs of boots, kicking their dumb asses for them.
I don’t know if this is a specifically Southern folk saying or if it’s found all over the English-speaking world, but we have a saying about someone who’s both mean and stupid to the point of self-destructiveness, like those people: “He’d cut off his nose to spite his face.” (Gender can be modified as needed, of course.)
Meanwhile: 😈
