This happened:
When a scene like this makes it into a movie, we assume that it’s gratuitous exaggeration of a character flaw that prepares the audience for some upcoming denouement. It’s not supposed to be real.
Script writers will have an abundance of material to work with in the future.
They’ll probably have to tone it down.

What a twit! What a fool!
Off topic:
The caption sounds a bit like a song by the original Buzzcocks. This caption is certainly appropriate, and it is certainly a compulsion for him.
There is an upcoming denouement. These people just don’t realize it yet.
I expect William was referring to this song.
lol, i wasn’t necessarily suggesting that you play it! But it’s undoubtedly an unusual song. The Buzzcocks started as a punk band with the great Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley. Devoto left to start the superb band Magazine, and Shelley and Steve Diggle continued in their group, and the Buzzcocks wrote some pretty songs like “Ever Fallen in Love.” The contrast is between the early punk Buzzcocks and the more melodic songs that they specialized in later. Anyway, don’t blame me, blame Margaret Thatcher, who in some sense was responsible for the entire punk movement.
I’ve never heard that song before.
Subtlety was apparently not the Buzzcocks’ strong suit.
This song is probably less well known than “Dream Weaver” or “Love Is Alive”, but it did reach #16 in 1981.
