Paper Trails Change Everything

I suppose we’ll never really know if a bit of code was accidentally downloaded to paperless voting machines in 2016 to flip a couple votes per precinct from Clinton to Johnson or Jill whatsername in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin that would account for Trump’s win. Maybe someone from the NSA, FBI or CIA has the answer to that and it’s locked in a vault for 50 years. It’s unlikely to start a civil war now, given that there are so many other things to start a civil war over. But I did think that Atrios was on sort of a similar glide path with this:

Philadelphia’s voter turnout isn’t particularly high (in any year). It’s generally a lot lower than the neighoring suburban counties and lower than the state as whole. It does vote around 80% for Democrats. But, you know, it’s 40%+ black and has been a Democratic machine city forever.

The only reason to think there’s voter fraud (any, but certainly of the kind that would influence a statewide election result) in Philly is if “black people voting” is voter fraud.

And as with many things, the “eyes” are always on the city. If you really had a plan for massive ballot stuffing for a statewide race, you’d do it elsewhere.

Of course, it’s all mental masturbation at this point. It’s just that if you were really clever, you wouldn’t concentrate all your fraud in one place. That’s way too obvious. I’d hide it in places like York County or Westmoreland county. You know, somewhere where the Republican is expected to win anyway. If it turns out that Trump beat all expectations in east Jabip, PA, who’s going to know?

The good thing is that the Republican run state legislature makes it really easy to prove this year now that every vote has a paper trail.

When you think about it, it’s been an uphill climb for Biden and voters this entire election season. If no functional FEC, no extra election security money passed by Congress, postal service tampering, long lines, court cases, voter intimidation, and a raging pandemic hadn’t happened, who knows how much Biden would have won by?

Thank goodness for hard copies.

  1. Also–what if the Treason Party got away with cheating in the non-prez races, which were not so carefully watched?

  2. Digital elections or ballot-casting can be hacked or programmed or whatever to produce any result that any group of programmers is ordered or paid to produce. That will always be a problem if we keep voting on electronic machines.

If we vote by making marks by hand on legal paper ballots, the digital pathway for secret fraud will be closed off. That is worth thinking about for the future, even though it will not help us now.

I wonder how many people voted absentee or early or etc. because those ballots were hand-marked analog ballots and people were ;looking for a way to vote without getting any digital cooties on their hands or bodies.

    • It was one of the motivating factors for me as well as not getting Covid.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist but it doesn’t take tinfoil to figure out that there was the capacity to mess with paperless voting machines in 2016
