Threatening Philly. That should be interesting.

IBW pointed me to this Lou Dobbs and friends’ meltdown about how Philly is ruining *everything*:

As ballots were being counted at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Wednesday night, Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs talked trashabout the electoral process in Philly and wondered aloud why Republicans just don’t surround the city.

“Philadelphia looks like a cesspool electorally,” he said on his show. “Why in the world wouldn’t the Republicans surround that thing and, if you will, you know, at least apply a little, what would you call it, some sort of scent?

Meanwhile, Republican commentator Harlan Hill took to Twitter early Thursday morning to suggest that Republicans should “start bussing Trump supporters to Philly” to “make them feel our level of pissed off.”

“I’m going to Philly tomorrow with a team,” he wrote in another tweet. “This is war.”

Ok, let me explain this to the perpetually pissed off:

It’s not a war. It’s an election. That means that the side with the most votes gets to make the decisions for the next 4 years. That is, unless the decision maker is a criminal asshole who threatens our national security. Then we get to reassess and impeach if necessary but I digress.

If there were more voters who want Biden than Trump, Biden wins. It’s that simple. I realize some of you will be disappointed but probably not nearly as disappointed as the rest of us have been since 2016.

If you still think it’s a war, then the only way your side will win every time is to set it up so the election and its outcome is meaningless. They do that in other countries but up until this year, it’s never happened in America. Real patriots don’t want to go down that road. That is why the rest of us fought so hard and stressed so long over this election. It’s precisely because we still value elections and we have very strong suspicions that you guys don’t. If Trump manages to squeak out a win after all of this, there will probably not be another free and fair election in our lifetimes. We prefer to contest it at the polling place, you might prefer invasion.

But be my guest and invade Philadelphia. I can’t wait to see what happens.

  1. They got used to getting their way. Or their psyches are so twisted that they relentlessly demand to get their way, and they have no boundaries. They get on friendly airwaves and call for destruction, do not respect any norms, or any results that they don’t like. This is, well, like the 1930’s in Europe. It’s bad enough when the goon types say things like this, but when broadcasters on radio and TV do, it has to be dealt with. 2000 was not violent, but they had the Brooks Brothers Riot, rich Republicans pounding on the door; there were people ready to march with arms to Washington had Bush won the popular vote and lost the electoral vote. They are now either so conditioned, or so devoid of reason and restraint, that they simply will not accept a loss or any negative outcome, it has to be due to cheating, plotting, a whole group of people out to rob them of what they think are their rights.

We need to treat this as serious, not as just people blowing off steam. Worse would be to be so intimidated, that we give in, let them have their way in various political matters. Maybe this is what Comey, who is not a coward, was afraid of when he decided to break all protocol and write to Republicans in Congress about new emails that did not exist? Maybe that is what some of the Republicans in office feared when they did not dare to question Trump? We have to stop this. Trump had a chance to act with restraint, respect the laws, but of course he wouldn’t and couldn’t do it, so now his 45% of the country will not respect Biden or the electoral process, despite all the remarkable work of so many poll workers and officials to provide a good and fair election.

    • William,

Can’t let you get away with your Comey comment, William. What he did to Hillary was unforgivable, period.

Comey made the ultimate political decision that every politician understands: It’s called CYA, or “Cover Your Ass.” But he self-servingly called it a decision to “speak” rather than “conceal.” But wait: Comey also knew that he had opened a criminal investigation in August 2016 of possible illegal collusion between Trump campaign officials and the Russian government, which the intelligence community knew by then had embarked on an active effort to interfere in the U.S. presidential election. Did the “apolitical” James Comey use the same standard and decide to “speak” rather than “conceal” the fact of this FBI investigation of the Russian meddling and the Trump campaign’s (or Trump’s own) complicity? Oops. How to explain the disparate treatment between “speaking” in the case of Clinton’s emails on Wiener’s laptop—which he had never seen before he sent his letter—and “concealing” the Russian-Trump collusion investigation, then ongoing?

James Comey doesn’t get to decide which policies to follow and which to ignore. In fact, irony of all ironies, Mr. Lordy, Lordy himself used a private email system, mixing FBI official business with personal messages, on his gmail account stored on Google’s private servers rather than the Justice Department server.

He should have been fired the very day he gave that infamous press conference by Loretta Lynch, who unfortunately proved to be too weak to do her job. Unfortunately, Obama didn’t take the appropriate action to fire him either. Everyone, it seems, were covering their collective asses AND at Hillary’s expense. He changed the course of history due to his narcisstic view that the rules didn’t apply to him (sounds like something trump would do). No way does Comey deserve a pass.

I do not disagree, but just want to point out that Obama did the same thing in August of 2016… IMO he takes as much heat for Hillary’s loss (and our wasted 4 years) as Comey.

  2. I watch Deutsche Welle every weeknight. Their news is excellent. They had one of their reporters outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center late this afternoon. There were many Biden supporters loudly chanting “Count the vote”. Only a few Trump supporters. Maybe a dozen, just standing around, looking bedraggled.

    • The Biden supporters were dancing in the streets outside the Convention Center in Philly, as well as chanting. It was like a block party.

  3. Oh, now I hear that Graham is actually mentioning that the Republican legislature in PA might just choose Republican Electors who would give all the votes to Trump.. Why not? Anything to win. Democrats would never even suggest this, but for Republicans, everything is permitted.

This is scary, just that they would actually suggest this, much less try to do it. I have always worried about something like this. Can you imagine how depraved a person would have to be to suggest that they just ignore the popular vote nationally and in the states, and use the power they have to manipulate it in their favor? Well, the kind of person who would say in 2016 that it was not right to appoint a Supreme Court Justice during an election year, and people should keep the tape, and then turn around four years later and push through a nomination during the election. Maybe their goal is to use it as a hostage chip; you don’t pass anything we don’t went, and we won’t do it? How in the world can Democrats ever imagine that they can compromise with fascists who call themselves Republicans? And people should think a lot more about the implications of voting for Republicans for any office, because they will use it to burn democracy down.

  4. If McTurtle and the other Rethugs want to block everything, they need to remember that the Dems will control the Dept. of Justice soon.

I reckon the Rethugs have lots of shady dealings which could be investigated… 😈

  5. Philly sez: “They don’t know us vewy well, do they?” 😈

  6. This is AWESOME, RD!
