    • Week-end Wrap – Political Economy – September 27, 2020
by Tony Wikrent Slouching toward denouement Capitulation Will Not Halt Trump’s Coup David Sirota, September 24, 2020 An important review of political events last week. Yoy may not agree with Sirota’s interpretation, but his analyses has proven correct repeatedly. Remember that Sirota accurately outlined the future course of American politics in his 2008 book […]

Redlining is evil

One of the first things I learned as a child in elementary school was “de facto segregation”. Pretty advanced topic for 3rd grade but we got it. You don’t have to be subjected to southern style “separate but equal” ordinances. You can be segregated simply by where you live and what your choices of housing are. That will determine what kind of education you get, where your school is located and a whole host of other things. Your parents can be well educated professionals but if they can’t buy a house in the neighborhood of their choice, their children may experience the stigma of living in an “undesirable area”.

So I was both heartened and disgusted when I saw this on Twitter:

I realize that linking to a Trump twitter goes against my values but we should probably tear this tweet apart and this is probably the area where Kamala Harris may have a thing or two to say.

So, here’s the entire content of Trump’s ugly tweet:

First, the bad news. I canvassed a lot of suburban housewives in Pittsburgh. I only canvassed Democrats. By far, the dumbest f{}%s on the planet were middle aged, lower to middle class registered Democrat white women. They swallowed absolutely every outrageously unbelievable stupid story put out there about Hillary Clinton. It was actually worse than that. The overwhelming attitude was that they were an entitled clic of the meanest girls in the country and if Clinton wasn’t going to personally come and kiss their asses in their own homes, they weren’t going to vote for her.{{slam door on canvassers face}}

One thing where I think the Clinton campaign made a big mistake when it comes to GOTV was someone assumed that yard signs didn’t make a big difference. So while the Trump campaign and Johnson campaign occupied almost every square millimeter of available real estate with an excess of signs, there were few Clinton signs until the very last month of the campaign. That was a BIG mistake. YUGE.

That’s because the suburban housewife is a creature of conformity. She might have liked Clinton before the shit got heavy but if none of her neighbors had a sign, she wasn’t going to either. So, when her neighborhood was swimming in a sea of Trump, she decided her social life was dependent on joining his team and adjusting her politics to be consistent with the neighbors who had the biggest summer barbecues. See how that works? Biden and Harris would be well advised to put out their signs THIS WEEKEND. DO NOT WAIT.

Now the reality that Biden and Harris can use:

The damage to the economy and the resulting instability is real. It’s simmering. And with each passing day of no resolution on the stimulus bill that Democrats passed months ago, the more desperation will hit our most vulnerable populations. We are about to see a sudden increase of American Jean Valjeans stealing bread for their families. Do I really think that the sudden increase in crime and break-ins and opioid abuse and violence is going to be confined to inner city neighborhoods? Actually, no. In fact, as bad as it is to live in those communities, there is a built in resourcefulness as well. Yeah, it could get ugly but if you’ve got nothing, you can’t lose very much.

It’s going to get bad in the very suburban neighborhoods that I canvassed. That’s where the newly “never been unemployed before” are going to get the shock of their lives. When you lose your cars, housing, cell phone service, etc. through no fault of your own, you might just start to wonder how you’re supposed to survive. The enemy will come from within.

Other than that, redlining is a horrible legacy of our racist past and I’m shocked that any politician would support it. But it’s especially evil now because it will distract the suburban housewife from seeing the real threats to her safety: kids roaming the streets, not in school, families under stress, lots of 2A types in the neighborhood and a simmering rage about to shake up their quiet little lives.

Why they would want to give Trump another 4 years to jeopardize the safety and economic security of their lives is a mystery to me. But like I’ve said before, they don’t think so good. Older male registered Democrats? Enthusiastic Clinton supporters. Go figure.

In any case, suburban women wanted to shake things up in 2016. And how did that work out? Someone should make them eat it.

  1. I find with a lot of these women it’s jealousy that they are not as successful as Hillary or other women. They look at their lives with most of it gone and the choices they made and blame someone else mostly successful women for their lot in life. You also have those women who will fight tooth and nail to stay number 2 in a white patriarchy because being number 2 for them is better than being equal which they see as oppression.

    • You know what’s really disturbing? In the last day, Hillary Clinton’s amazing, historic, ground breaking candidacy has been completely erased. It’s almost as if she never existed and Kamala is a de novo political entity.
The media is all but confessing that they generate the enthusiasm and the knowingly didn’t do it for Hillary. They are responsible for Trump. I am sick to my stomach listening to this. It’s so incredibly irresponsible.

      • I blame the media for a lot of the suffering in this country. If they had done their jobs in 2016 maybe we wouldn’t be here. They thought it was all about fun and games and who you’d like to have a beer with as if you’re ever going to have a beer with a POTUS.

        • And the fauxgressive dudebro media weasels are just as bad, if not worse, than the honestly reactionary media weasels.

  2. I don’t actually think Cadet Bone Spurs has the cojones to try this, but our Armed Forces need to be ready, in case I’m wrong about that.
