The Confluence 
One of Trump’s very few plays is to state that the is hearing from all sorts of people who want him to do the thing that he wants to do. This is not even a clever con, but amazingly enough, the media lets him get away with it. They even provide free air time for him to say this to the populace.
As for Bolton, he is emblematic of something, but I am not sure precisely what. A long time extreme hawk who became a Fox News person, then got hired by Trump because he loves Fox News. Then Bolton is removed, like almost everyone else Trump hires, amid Bolton complaining about figurative drug deals and Trump’s violations of norms and statecraft literacy. Bolton writes a book all about it. While he is writing it, he House tries to get him to testify as to all of this in impeachment hearings and he refuses. Now the book finally is about to come out, and Trump’s own DOJ is suing to stop it, while Bolton is trying to get people to buy it and read what he has to say. Is Bolton just a greedy jerk? Is he trying to mollify his far Right friends, stay viable for consulting work, while still saying, “Look at me, I am defending my principles, but refusing to do anything to help the hated Democrats?” Is this a different variation of Comey? Is it like some kind of Skull and Bones oath that all Republicans take at some point; Anthony Kennedy; Rosenstein, many more? No matter what, you never do anything to help Democrats, but you can help yourself in accruing money, that is the Republican Way.
