    • Know Your Enemies
An enemy is someone who means you harm and has the means to inflict it. A friend is someone who has wants to do good for you, and has the means to bestow it. I once wrote primarily to predict and to change the world. I now write to help a few people, those who […]

This happened in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

I don’t know who these jerks are but our mayor, Bill Peduto, is pissed:

It’s more than irritating. These days, anyone could be carrying a gun. It’s dangerous to confront this asshole. We don’t know who he is, who he represents or what his motives are.

  1. It was almost inevitable that protests would be hijacked and perverted by right-wing supremacists, anarchists, and Russian elements. They thrive on discord and chaos. Here In Los Angeles, establishments were burned and looted. Who exactly did each thing is of course hard to pinpoint, but there were surely many right-wing people involved.

And then there are instances of media people being shot at by police, and I don’t think it is just unfortunate damage. There are some law enforcement officials who are deliberately injuring media members. What we don’t know is how many local and national law enforcement groups have been corrupted over the decades by white supremacists and now Trump people. It was sort of generally assumed that if it ever came to it, the police would act to protect citizens. But what if some of them are now the arm of Trump? The whole thing last night was very suspicious. I wonder if Governor Walz was told by Trump that if he did not stop the rioting, he would order National Guard to take over. Because suddenly the MInneapolis police became more aggressive, fired pepper spray and rubber bullets at people, including media.

Most protests seemed to be going nonviolently. Then in the darkness, people started looting and burning. Who were these people? if they were mostly those who were protesting, then they are damaging their own cause, and helping Trump. If, as is more likely, the protests were infiltrated by right-wing elements then this needs to be told to the media, and the media must pick this up; plus some prominent Democrats must speak up about this. No one wants to be seen to be on the side of rioters burning and looting property. But we well remember that the ’60’s demonstrations were infiltrated by pro-Nixon people. and the far Right elements are larger and more emboldened now than they were then, and they are using all of this to help Trump. The term “Antifa” is now standing in for “Radicals and Hippies” terms used by the evil Spiro Agnew and others, and never effectively refuted by the news media then.

  2. William – I am having the very same thoughts and fears.

    • LucyK, I do appreciate you expressing your opinions on this. Right now, it seems as if we are being pulled by two opposing forces (or maybe they are the same in some sense?) toward the kind of chaos that Steve Bannon and Trump thrive on. We know that totalitarians, fascists, always want social disruption so that they can validate their clamping down on individual freedoms.

  3. William – Yes. Exactly. We have certainly seen this play book over and over again.
