  1. Yes, it is a lovely day.

Here’s an interesting read on a Biden unity govt:

I don’t agree with all their choices but the idea is good.

    • Every time a Democrat might win, the NYT and other journals urge them to form a unity government. When Republicans win, they form the most partisan governments imaginable. It is as if the Democrats are only allowed to run the government if they promise to work closely and conciliate with Republicans, who of course become more and more extreme when they are in office. After the interregnum, the Republicans can win again and push the country more to the far Right..

This has been going on since Reagan. I remember when the 2000 election was being disputed, and someone, maybe Friedman or David Broder, urged Gore to form a cabinet which had one half Republicans. When the Supreme Court handed it to the Republicans, Cheney told his people that they were going to govern as if they had gotten 60% of the vote, run the country as far to the Right as possible. And so they did. This double standard does not work well for anyone, except the Republicans, and the country moves ever further to the dream of the Federalist Society, which now has control of most of the courts, nullifying anything a Democratic administration might do.

      • I would agree with you nearly 100% if these times were normal. But because it may be as long as 18 months till the pandemic is “controlled “, we are dealing with a new normal. And in that case, I really hope we can find a new kind of unity. War has a way of pulling people together.
