Ok, now, don’t get your hopes up but…

It looks like the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has a potential vaccine against Covid-19:

UPMC and scientists from Pitt Health Sciences announced a potential vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus causing the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a press release, “when tested in mice, the vaccine, delivered through a fingertip-sized patch, produces antibodies specific to SARS-CoV-2 at quantities thought to be sufficient for neutralizing the virus.”<<

There are a lot of tests ahead of us but if it works and this goes like the Salk vaccine, Pittsburgh will get a first crack at it.

We’ll, uh, let you know how it goes.

  1. This is somewhat hopeful news. But Trump is actually rationing medical supplies to his favorite governors and states. Florida just got 100% of the things they requested, for the third time. ,Massachusetts got 15% or so., He is mocking New York’s leaders for having ‘an “insatiable appetite” for ventilators. he is literally deliberately killing people in blue states. If he gets his hands on any vaccine, he will only give it out to selected people. Something dramatic must occur to save the country and the democracy.

    • Not only immoral, but stupid, since that will harden opinion against him in those states to degenerate-matter levels.

    • Not sure he can stop this vaccine from being widely available. Sounds like the technique is similar to giving enzyme chopped up pieces of viral spike protein in the vaccine. This is not novel. And it’s pretty easy to find the gene sequence of the spike, chop it up with enzymes and put it in a needle.
In other words, it’s going to be very difficult to capture the patent on this. My guess is many companies will work on it at once. Competition should keep the cost reasonable and since the recovery of the economy depends on it, you could make a case for giving it at low or no cost.

  2. I am ever thankful for your expertise in such things.
