Mike Kelly, Republican Rep from Erie, PA was on c-span this morning, feigning outrage that Pelosi called Trump an imposter.

Note that she didn’t call him an illegitimate president because the jury is still out on that. But imposter he definitely is and he knows it.

It looks like the other NATO state leaders know it too. They laughed at him behind his back and Macron upbraided him publicly. He was so undone he left the NATO summit early before the last press conference.

So much for getting our dignity back under Trump.

Pelosi knows exactly what she’s saying. It’s delightful.

C-Span’s other memes:

Well, it looks like the Republicans are starting to run out of spin. Now they’re seizing on Turley’s remarks that maybe the Democrats are going too fast and should let the courts settle the subpoena cases first.

Oh, yeah, they really like that idea. Multiple callers and guests going on about timing.

But for the first time since I’ve been listening, callers were overwhelmingly for impeachment and had no illusions about what was going on. These were sober and clear eyed callers, lots and lots of them. They know that the only reason why we can’t impeach him successfully is because 1.) The Republican Senate is compromised and 2.) Trump is obstructing Justice and refusing to let his minions testify. They also know that no other president has ever done that.

It makes them think that he might be up to no good in other areas and is getting away with it.

Sooooo, you know, the Republicans Wurlitzer may be running out of hot air.

I’m crawling to the finish line as far as time off goes this year. There has been no vacation, just doctor’s appointments and stuff.

Thank you to those of you who hit the Tip Jar. I really appreciate it. It helped me with a nice early Christmas present for someones special.

It’s cold, cloudy, damp in Pittsburgh. So, you know, typical for this time of year. I’m trying to keep my head in “week at the beach” mode. To that end, I’m wearing my long blonde hair today, (it’s warm), and dreaming of a getaway.

  1. Some of the media is going with the theme, “Will impeachment hurt Democrats?” This is their standard theme, “Will ___ hurt Democrats?” The media should be grateful that someone is out there trying to save the country. They could have avoided all of this by simply covering the last presidential campaign in a fair and rational manner, rather than trying to cover for Trump’s stupidity and complete lack of qualifications, just because they wanted a horse race, and because it was so much fun to hammer away at the immensely qualified Hillary Clinton. I doubt that they have learned anything, they are not nearly as smart as they like to think that they are.

I still rather wish that we did this slowly, and did not seem so determined to get this to the Senate by January, where McConnell will have complete control, and it will be an excoriation of the Democrats, followed by an acquittal which will be spun as a complete exoneration and vindication. But they seem very concerned that if they do not move quickly, the media or even the voters might get upset at them. I trust Pelosi’s instincts, even though I am concerned about how things might swing once the Senate gets hold of the proceedings. I am glad that some of the CSPAN callers you heard seem more cogent than the usual ones which have made me turn off such call-ins in the past. I just hope that we can still bring forward more evidence in witness testimony which would further convince reasonable voters that Trump not only committed impeachable crimes, but is a clear menace to our democracy and cannot be “elected” again.

Such rolls of the dice, with all of the “money” on the table, are wrenching. The original stark last scene of “The Cincinnati Kid,” (in the movie and VHS version) before the studio inserted a leavening shot for the re-release, about which the great director Norman Jewison said in the DVD commentary, “I don’t know why that is in, I certainly didn’t want it there,” always lingers.

  2. Here’s my theory: Pelosi knows that the Senate won’t convict. But she also knows that Trump can’t help himself. There will be more and more corruption bubbling to the surface. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it weren’t already known what he’s up to.
That stuff is going to come out. It will start piling up until it’s difficult for even the most devoted Trumper to ignore. But there won’t be much that can be done about it except vote them all out of office.
If I were the press, I’d be worried. Because Trump is going to want to shut them all down as quickly as possible to keep the leaks to a minimum.

    • I agree. I think there is more evidence that the house has that has not been released just like the phone records that came out the other day.
