Weenin’ without widnesses

Sorry to all y’all southerners out there. I couldn’t help myself. Is it just me or does the Republican Party seem to have an excess of the drawliest drawlers? They were the ones who studied the confederate army maneuvers and saved their Dixie cups because the south was going to rise agin’!

Disclaimer: I lived in South Carolina and Virginia as a kid. Navy brat and all that.

Jim Jordan looks misplaced. He should have been from Alabama not Ohio. His shirt sleeves should be shorter and his hair buzzier.

Where was I going with this? Oh yeah. I’m trying to predict tomorrow’s talking point. I think it will go like this: y’all ain’t got no widnesses.

I think it was Gerhardt today who laid out the impeachment argument in about three sentences. President Trump refuses to cooperate with congress. President Trump is withholding documents and prohibiting witnesses from testifying. President Trump will claim that he can’t be successfully impeached because there is no evidence because he is holding onto it.

This is where the Constitution meets its match. If he can’t be impeached because the bar of evidence is set unrealistically high (there have been plenty of widnesses.) and there’s no way to compel him to comply, then we have a king who can do no wrong and not a president who we can vote out whenever we please.

It ain’t good.

  1. Speaking of Southern accents: 😈

  2. Not good at all. It has been suggested that the Republicans are confident that a Democrat would not do the immoral and corrupt things they do, so that there is no risk of any of this being ricocheted back to them.

What we see every time we have one of these hearings is that the Republicans are utterly worthless in terms of ethics, insight, or interest in the welfare of the country. They act like obstinate and proudly stupid teenagers in some gang or clique. Their goals are purely selfish, almost antediluvian. They don’t want to listen, facts mean nothing to them; it is like everything is a board game where the only point is to win. I never loved the Republicans of the ’70’s, but there were at least some cogent ones there. These are like some lower species. As you suggeested yesterday, if Trump announced that he was going to end Medicare and Social Security, and make everyone in the middle and lower classes pay ten percent of their salary as tribute to him, the Republicans would support all of it, ,just because. I don’t know how this country can ever function in a reasonably fair and progressive way with at least 45% of it having devolved to these simulacrums of human beings.

  3. Meanwhile, he’s doing his usual background thing of inflicting as much gratuitous pain as possible, just because.

Actual physical hunger hurts from one second to the next, plus there is the added degradation that it is not *supposed* to happen to a person here. Yet this monster is flicking this whip, presumably on his way out the door, just cause we don’t know how to stop him.
