    • The NYTimes Reveals More Than It Means
Watch this video. It’s only 39 seconds. It’s worth it. What’s interesting to me about this video is NOT what Bernie says, it’s the reaction. It’s how genuinely uncomfortable the people interviewing him (The NYTimes editors) are. They really think he’s saying something terrible. Something awkward. Something embarrassing. What is he saying? “I ignore the […] […]

Two Desis in a stairwell talk impeachment.

Keep your eyes and ears on these two.

I spoke too soon about Trump failing to set up his fall guy. It’s Rudy:

The U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, became a primary Giuliani target.

Yovanovitch, a longtime State Department Foreign Service officer, arrived in Ukraine as ambassador at the end of the Obama administration, more than two years after an uprising centered on Kiev’s Independence Square ousted the Russian-leaning government.

Though she was widely respected in the national security community for her efforts to prod Ukraine to take on corruption, Giuliani targeted Yovanovitch with wild accusations including that she played a secret role in exposing Manafort and was part of a conspiracy orchestrated by the liberal financier George Soros.

Oh pleeze. 🙄

Am I expected to believe that Rudy is dumber than Trump when it comes to Soros conspiracy theories?

Anyway, Rudy isn’t the President. To be honest, I’m not sure who is the president. Well, we’re about to find out. When Trump crossed this latest line, he made it necessary to open all of Pandora’s boxes on his previous antics.

But back to Trump. If you’re theoretically the President (never proven for this Pennsylvanian), you don’t have to do stupid, unconstitutional, self-dealing things that will get you in trouble in a domestic and international theater. It’s a given that you will try hard NOT to do such things. That’s what the oath of office is about.

Saying “Rudy made me do it!” doesn’t really apply under these circumstances. He doesn’t even work for us in an official governmental capacity. He’s a personal lawyer. He’s, oh nevermind, you’d have to be really gullible to buy this blame shifting. Or you’ve never been a parent of children.

In the end, the House is proceeding with impeachment for the only good reason: to protect the integrity of the 2020 election. That’s what the Ukraine incident is all about – Trump trying to smear his opponent Yanokovych style.

We don’t do that kind of thing here in the US and most of us want our votes to have meaning.

That’s why Trump is being impeached.

He may survive a conviction in Moscow Mitch’s Senate but no one will go into 2020 not knowing what Trump has been up to or thinking that their votes don’t count.

The best thing to come out of this is that we will ALL take elections much more seriously in the future.

Walk to work music.

Yep, going back. I have plenty of vacation days to use but sitting around at home is not my idea of vacation.

Someday, I will have a week at the beach. Oh, yes, it will be mine.

But for today, it’s back to work.

  1. It is heartening to know Trump dropped everything yesterday and scrambled to call Pelosi and beg her to stop the proceedings. Then he gave up all the Democrats were asking for, in a desperation move.
As if Speaker Pelosi, the 3rd most powerful person in the government, didn’t already know what’s in the report. She receives daily security briefings to which, I can safely assume, she actually listens.
Mr. “Art of the Deal” couldn’t negotiate his way out of a paper bag. I’ve seen his type when I play poker tournaments…big bluff followed by immediate fold, when the bluff is called.

    • Streaker Pelosi, on the other hand, would be a formidable poker player, tracking every other player at the table, constantly calculating her betting position and odds, and holding her cards close. If she does bluff, she’ll make it impossible to know for certain.

      • With all the Botox injections she gets trying to read her expressions would be impossible.

        • Pee-yew! I do believe I smell cr@wd@d flop sweat. 😈

        • ROTFLMAO. Anybody who knows anything about Botox could take one look at Nancy’s face and know she doesn’t use it. Botox produces a frozen plastic face look like Melania has. Obviously Melania looks like she uses it.

  2. Hahaha, “Speaker” Pelosi is, of course, what I intended, lol!

  3. We will see what the media does with all of it. They very unfortunately have the power to point viewers in one or the other direction. So far, perceptive people know that: 1) This is not a recording of the one phone call released, it is a a memo. 2) There are about 18 ellipses in it, undoubtedly there to hide specific things said in this conversation. 3) There were certainly other calls, and probably other things as well, which led to the whistleblower reporting to the IG. 4) This specific “quid pro quo” focus is silly because in any conversation an American President has with a foreign leader, where he makes a direct request for them to do something for him, it is implied. Plus, the $300 million in military funds appropriated by Congress had been withheld for two months, only to be suddenly restored two days after the whistleblower complaint was revealed.

We will see how far backwards the media bends to try to be “fair” to Trump, and whether they will once again allow a memo, expurgated, to stand in for a recording, full transcript, and the actual whistleblower complaint. We know what Dilanian and others did to try to pretend that Barr’s memo was the actual Mueller Report. “Both sidesing” this will turn the entire impeachment process into a partisan battle which will not get us anywhere near where we want to go. In the ten minutes or so of MSNBC I have seen this morning, which unaccountably featured the loathsome Matt Gaetz, I have not seen any understanding by the media that what was released by Trump is simply as self-serving a document as the could come up with. One can only hope that they will do better, and quickly. For me, at least, this is all about getting Trump out of office. But of course the media wants the “exciting sports event,” so they will invent a both sides.

    • The major media must be broken up with anti-trust suits, if we ever get enough power back. 😈

  4. It seems that the notes/summary (not transcript) of the call are the perhaps the least incriminating document that could be found, quickly, and released. Which says a lot about what’s out there waiting to be discovered.
It’s interesting to see the GOP in panic/meltdown mode. Accidentally emailing their “talking points” memo to the Democratic leadership, only to request it back, all of sudden becoming “bipartisan” in demanding the whistleblower complaint be released and allowing a vote to block Trump’s use of military funds for the wall today, etc.
It’s what happens when one finally stands up to a bully.

  5. Off topic: While it doesn’t feel autumnal at all here in the central Arkanshire, the Aki sisters welcome you to autumn. 😀

  6. The Red Queen is obviously a Democrat.

Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying,” she said: “one can’t believe impossible things.”
“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

    • In defense of the Stupid White Folks of Real Amurka, in some cases, it was an intelligence test instead of a character test; though for many, it was both.

      • Oh, God will probably forgive you, because S/He’s like that.

And we won’t send you to camps or anything tacky like that–but we will never, ever, let you lot hold any significant degree of political power again.

  7. Didn’t Trump say something about “low energy Jeb” and “sleepy Joe Biden?” Did you catch his UN presser? He was Captain Queeg afflicted with narcolepsy. Oh, this is going to be fun.
