I miss the honky tonks, Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens

While we wait for Mueller’s report (will he or won’t he? Only his hairdresser knows for sure), can we get a show of hands for the Green New Deal? I’ve only read parts of it and the part about the farting cows seems vaguely like evangelical veganism to me. But the rest of it? Like reducing fossil fuel emissions by 40% by 2030? Yeah, I’m totally onboard with that.

The green new deal could change the economy rapidly as well. Think of all the alternate renewable energy sources that will need technicians, installers, specialists all over the country. We could revolutionize the solar panel industry, mass transportation, broadband internet. Who wouldn’t want that?

Trump made a really stupid comment the other day about how the green new dealers “want to take away your planes”. This is a man who doesn’t read anything. A couple of years ago, I read about how planes will not be able to fly in certain places, like TEXAS, if the weather gets too hot. The air will be too thin. It’s a physics thing. Someone should clear this up for the Texans, who will be stuck in TEXAS during the summers. Where is Beto when you need him??

I’m shocked by the number of Democrats who should know better who are scoffing and rolling their eyes at the Green New Deal. Did they forget about how at the turn of the last century, we were still using horses and carriages? How about back in the 80’s we were still using landline touch phones? The only thing preventing the Green New Deal from getting a fair shake is the lack of enthusiasm, curiosity and love of a challenge among our Congressional dinosaurs. You don’t have to be young to find problem solving fun and I’m not voting for anyone who tries to placate the masses by making fun of the Green New Deal. If you don’t like it, come up with better solutions. Same with Medicare for All and affordable 4 year colleges. I have zero patience for pandering to the white working class male these days. His refusal to evolve and acknowledge his changing environment, in terms of climate, economy or diversity, is a danger to the rest of us.

Anyway, where else are you gonna go? We’re not going to colonize Mars by 2030.

Morning walk to work music, the lament of the fossil fuel addict as interpreted by Talking Heads:

  1. The only high profile elected official advocating for the GND was AOC and she shot the whole thing in the foot with her FAQ’s. It was moving along until she put out FAQ’s about it. Talk about ruining something in short order.

  2. Of course there are good ideas here, and we need to do something drastic to save the planet. But unless we think that Democrats are going to sweep into office with immense majorities in both houses of Congress, plus the Presidency, the idea that something like this is going to be passed, is both fanciful and maybe not even helpful. I do agree that it is important to keep emphasizing the need for major work to arrest climate change. I do not think that running on the GND is going to help any Democrats to win. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it’s worth just making a desperate try at it, to say “we tried.” I think that the environment must be a major issue in this election, even though the media would not ask one single question about it during any of the debates last time. But I think that the GND is too sweeping, too full of holes or question marks, to be an effective way to go. The candidate who is strongest on environment, at least in speeches, is Governor Inslee of Washington. But he won’t get 2% of the votes in the primaries, which is a sad testament as to what people want to hear about on the campaign trail.
