Stoned

Here’s a curious tweet:

Do you think it has anything to do with:

??

Note that the FBI agents in that clip are probably working without pay. AND they invited the media. Not just any media.

CNN

Correction: CNN invited itself. Somebody heard about something coming down from DC and CNN just happened to be in the neighborhood. So, good work CNN.

Anyway, last December Trump said that Roger would never rat on him. A real standup guy is our Roger.

Hmmm… If Stone suddenly starts spilling the beans, does that mean Trump has been… Rogered?

I only ask.

Have at it, O Best Beloveds. Give me your best double entendres.

  1. RD, your literacy is always impressive. The first time I ever heard the term “Rogering,” was in the movie “White Mischief,” about decadent British emigres in Kenya in the ’40’s or so. I am not great with double entendres, but a very early song of Dan Hicks, “He’s Stoned,” did pop into my head. And pirate Roger may not be so jolly today.

  2. Roger Stone just spoke with the press and announced what we all expected – he’s pleading not guilty. He also stated that he would not “bear false witness against the president” and “would not testify against him.” Then he left. A thinly veiled request for a pardon from trump for his loyalty. Of course, trump will comply.

My concern is how long will it take for Mueller to complete his investigation. Every time he looks under a “stone”, he finds more crimes being committed. These guys are traitors against the country and trump is playing dictator. It just feels like Mueller is like a Nero fiddling while Rome burns. I’m glad he’s being thorough, but will he finish the report before the damage done to the country is so great or we are faced with a real crisis which could change the course of his investigation and delay it further? Surely there is something that the House can do to block trump from doing anything and everything to save his own ass. I am convinced that trump is under orders from putin and will continue to follow those orders until he is driven from office. Is America really prepared for a dictator in the WH of trump’s caliber? Everything in me says that time is of the essence and that Mueller and the House of Reps do not have the luxury to be deliberate in how they finally bring this guy down before he totally destroys this country.

    • The good news is that since Democrats now control the house a lot of stuff that has been hidden by the GOP is going to become public knowledge. I understand the concern about all the damage but unfortunately the process is going to move along at the speed it is going to.

  3. Ga6thDem,

I realize the process will go at the speed it’s going but I was hoping that there were some sort of stop gate the House could put in place to contain trump while the process plays out. We are all witnessing as the process plays out, trump has become more and more desperate and do whatever he can using the enormous powers of the presidency to save himself. A frightening thought that should not be ignored or minimized by either Mueller or the House. A desperate crook with the powers trump has is something that should be planned for by the House dems who were elected to put a stop to trumps unlimited power.

I cannot believe that no matter how bad it gets that the process cannot be expedited in some way to protect the country.

  4. I’m thinking at the least Congress should be drafting the Bill needed to revoke Presidential Emergency powers put in place during the drafting of the patriot act or at the least define emergency. And if Republicans don’t go along well so be it, I live in a red state and people are sick of this Republican Frat Pack .

  5. The win appears to be going to Pelosi.

  8. So worth it, IBW…

  9. I should save this for the new RD post tomorrow, but I feel like writing about it now. There is apparently some rumor out there that Hillary might consider running again. This came from CNN’s Jeff Zeleny. Now, I think that this is unlikely, for various reasons. But what is really going to anger me, is the predictable “Go away, Hillary,” responses, even from some Democrats. In the article I read, it was noted that when asked about this in 2018, Hillary said that there is going to be a lot of “heavy lifting” to be done, to restore America’s image abroad. She said that many leaders abroad don’t even know what we stand for any more.

This is very true, and it cannot be avoided, in favor of popular cheerleading about diversity and empowerment, and vague “Hope and Change”-type slogans. How many of the potential Democratic candidates have shown any depth of knowledge, or even interest, regarding foreign relations? Biden, of course. Have Harris, or Warren, or Brown, or O’Rourke? Yes any of them could win and appoint a good Secretary of State, but that is not an ideal way to go. It seems that many millennials are not that interested in hearing candidates talk about world affairs; they want to hear about programs which will help them. I am wondering if the Democratic primary debates will turn into a series of inspiring exhortations and turns of phrase, rather than actual grasp of domestic and foreign affairs all in context. Hillary did that better than anyone I have seen, at least since Bill Clinton. America does not exist in a vacuum, no matter how much the Trump White Nationalists, or the Sanders Socialists want to act like it is so.

I figure Hillary won’t run, because it is too steep a task, plus she would get sneered at and mocked. For what, though? Sanders is running again. Biden ran twice before. Romney wants to run again. So does Kerry. Hillary won the popular vote in 2016, and it is becoming clear to more people, that she faced more obstacles than any presidential candidate ever had, obviously including massive collusion and interference by an adversarial power which conspired with the Republican Party and its candidate. Much as people might like to plunge forward, I do not think that all of the problems we face as a country are going to be solved by just anyone. I would certainly vote for Hillary again if she ran, and I would send her more money for her campaign. If she does not run, as is likely, I will follow along a bit; I certainly will vote for any Democrat; but I will mostly observe from a distance, as I did after Hillary was cheated out of the nomination in 2016, due to caucuses, and the DNC heads giving away her delegates to Obama, and never reinstating the full Florida or Michigan primaries. If I saw someone out there who I thought would make a great President, I would be inclined to feel that we might be better off going in that direction, than in trying to get Hillary another nomination. But I do not, so she is again in my mind, the most qualified, and the person I would feel most comfortable with in dealing with the myriad of world issues which we cannot ignore just because we would like to concentrate on feel-good ideas.

    • That was great, William

    • Obama made a fairly good Prez, but Hillary would have made a better one for his two term.

If their roles had been reversed, and she had been nominated in 2008 and he had been nominated in 2016, HRC, due to the bitter experiences she and Bill had with the Rethugs, would have known that you can’t Kumbaya them–so she would have sicced the Federal cops and spooks on Mommie Dearest Russia once it became clear it was interfering in the elections, and Obama would have sailed to victory over a disgraced and suspected Trump.

      • *sigh* “two terms”

Have I mentioned that TurdPress sucks goat mucus? 👿

    • Hillary won’t run unless there’s an impeachment

  10. Hey Riverdaughter et al can we please respond go to the disgraceful journalist who wrote this garbage? That Hillary “hasn’t learned her lesson” about not running again? It’s infuriating https://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/ny-news-hillary-clinton-2020-presidential-run-20190127-story.html?outputType=amp&__twitter_impression=true

This ‘journalist’ apparently hasn’t learned her lesson. Even after the numerous indictments and arrests. Her twitter handle is @kateefeldman
