Rod Rosenstein is leaving

According to ABC News, Rosenstein is expected to leave when the new attorney general is confirmed. That is expected to be Robert Barr. The timeframe is “in the coming weeks”, whatever that means. I’m guessing life with Whitaker is not much fun right now.

Rosenstein was overseeing the Mueller investigation. No idea what happens now. But there have been some interesting things that indicate that the investigation is wrapping up. For instance:

Mueller asked for the grand jury to continue past its expirations date of last week. The grand jury can only be extended another 6 months.

Mueller says he’ll write the report by mid February.

There’s a mysterious foreign company that has been resisting a grand jury subpoena and yesterday Supreme Court Justice John Roberts said it could no longer defy the subpoena and must testify or pay a hefty daily fine.

Yesterday, Paul Manafort’s lawyers forgot to lock their e-document before submitting it to the court and some clever filings watchers were able to peek under the black redaction bars to discover that Manafort had given polling data to Konstantin Kilimnic during his tenure as Trump’s campaign manager in 2016. Manafort says that meeting didn’t take place until after the election, which seems improbable considering the Russians would have less use for it AFTER the election. So, yeah, I agree with Mueller. Manafort probably lied about that. Interesting that the document was unlocked. It’s almost like they wanted it to be discovered. Hmm…

There’s an article in Vanity Fair that reports that Rudy Giuliani says the report will be “horrific”. I’m assuming he means horrific for Trump but he could mean horrific for the rest of us. Who knows. This was followed by someone who knows Giuliani speculating that, “You’re already hearing people speculate Trump could do a deal and resign.”

That would be good. But given that he used his speech last night to raise funds for his re-election, maybe someone might want to clue Trump on what the plan is.

Anyway, it looks like the end is near. I think the revelations are going to rock our world. Whether it will be enough to dislodge Trump remains to be seen.

  1. That would be good. But given that he used his speech last night to raise funds for his re-election, maybe someone might want to clue Trump on what the plan is.

His re-election campaign set up was a sham from the beginning. It is a vehicle to take money from other corrupt entities and also from very foolish supporters. Maybe last night’s fundraising was a last ditch effort collect one more time.

A Democrat won the special election for state senate in VA yesterday. We need to continue the momentum and demolish the Republican party in 2020, take the senate and the WH while keeping the house. I can’t imagine the majority voters voting for a Russian asset/puppet a second time (and Kathleen will remind me that the voters didn’t vote for this motherfucker in 2016 either and I agree). A second time electoral college victory is not going to happen.

    • Internal polling data to Pootie! And NYT MAGA Maggie’s tweet about Manafort’s memo to trump to go to WI and MI and I remember vividly wondering at the time that he was going to a lot of places where he was not expected to win. The electoral college victory was cobbled together with a few 10s of 1000s of votes.

    • Also the DNC hack got the Ruskies, the Dem analytics data. There was a report on that and I am too lazy to hunt for a link, but Dem Analytics!

    • And what about Bernie Sanders! There are some Russian connection there too. Pootie used him (if he was not already a direct player) and his ego and misogynistic tendencies to divide the Dems in the primary.

      • pm317,

I simply love your passion! I particularly appreciate that you can never refer to trump or the republicans without prefacing it with “motherfucker”!!! Fight fire with fire, right?

I agree whole heartedly with you about sanders and his connections with Russia. Maybe he thought they would hack the vote for him to win the democratic nomination!

The media, albeit it far too late, need to investigate sanders and just how much and what kind of assistance he received from the Russians. What better way to destroy America than to conspire to put either trump or sanders in the WH?

Hillary is a patriot and pootie knew she would kick his ass if the will of the people was realized. The media keeps stating that Hillary was a bad candidate, but trump and sanders were the bad candidates who got unlimited passes and no vetting from the media. I can’t imagine a man ever being referred to as a bad candidate if he had won by 4 million votes in the primary and almost 3 million the general election AND do it against all of the crap thrown that was thrown at Hillary. Never gonna happen.

        • Why! Thank you wynne05. It is a bit cathartic to call them by the title they deserve. 🙂 And, ask any immigrant — even those of us who came here looking for better professional opportunities. We were, if not running from poverty, were running from corruption, dysfunction in government, and so on, and to see this country devolve into that same abyss, is not something we gave up our other citizenship for (and many of us are still sentimental about giving it up).

          • pm317,

FYI, on this site I’m “wynne05” but on other sites we both visit, I’m Kathleen! Just wanted you to know.

I do admire your persistence and desire to keep up with what’s going in our country. So many of our fellow Americans are either too busy trying to make a living or too lazy to even take an interest.

In the end, it will be up to the people to take our country back from these corrupt motherfuckers!

          • There is a different ‘Kathleen’ here or are you the same person (who often reminds me that trump didn’t win the election, :))? FYI, I don’t visit any other sites now.

        • pm317,

          Yes, I am that Kathleen!

My constant posting that trump did not win the election is based on documented fact not emotion. When you get a chance, watch this HBO Emmy nominated documentary film entitled — wait for it — “Hacking Democracy”:

It was released in 2006. It was true then and it is true now that our elections can be and I believe have been hacked in order to ensure a certain outcome (an the paper trail does not necessarily reflect the vote as cast). The only solution is to go back to hand counted paper ballots on election night at the precinct with the results posted for all citizens to see. Unfortunately, the media likes the machines because they get quick results so they can announce the winner on election night (all about ratings)! I opt for transparent and fair elections that reflect the will of the people.

You decide if the people are not capable of choosing the best representatives or if we should continue leaving it up to the machines and those who control them.

          • There can only be one Kathleen! I figured you were the same person because your writing style is the same. I agree with you wholeheartedly that the motherfucker did not win the election but it is a moot point now because we can’t dislodge him (because of that). It is truly unfortunate that the founders and others did not think of a crook rising to power, well they sort of did but the checks and balance they instituted is not working.

          • pm317,

I know we can’t change what happened in 2016, but I do believe that the American people have to know what we are up against in our elections when it comes to the counting of hte votes with these machines. You have to be willing to see for yourself why they are dangerous. If we keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result by continuing to use these machines to put people in power, then we can never expect to win the war of a country of, for and by the people. A “pretend” democracy while the power elite continually grows in power is not my idea of change. I’m certain many of those in power and those who put them there believe the average citizen has not educated themselves enough to choose the best leaders. I disagree because the majority voted for Hillary, not trump.

The big question is WHY neither the Congress nor the media were interested in taking the investigagive work done regarding these machines seriously? Once you view the documentary, you will agree the proof is irrefutable. If we can get the answer to that question, we will be able to take steps to effectively take our country back.

  2. It is not just the 800K that are not working… think of all the other people…

  3. There is more, much more, right? Check some of the replies. Anybody following this guy, Seth Abramson? Is he legit?

  4. Don’t forget they got their hands on Dem Analytics from the DNC too!

    • Yes, click on that second tweet for a really good thread, that puts it all in laymen’s terms.

  5. I will mention again that every single poll of Wisconsin voters in 2016, had Hillary up by 4-6 points. That is why she didn’t go there. Presidential polls are never off by much. In Pennsylvania, she led by around 3-4% the week before the election.. Michigan polls did tighten. Not enough people are asking, how could the polls in PA and WI be so far off? Unquestionably, the ridiculous actions by Comey did not help. But there was something(s) else. There were microtargeted ads on the social media and probably via mail and phone calls, to specific voters. Trump’s campaign gave their polling data to Russia, which then used their social media tools against carefully selected voters. Hillary’s campaign data had earlier been hacked by the Sanders campaign. and whom was that information shared with by Devine?

Anyone with a basic knowledge of advertising, knows that if you relentlessly target specific people, you can get a number of them to buy your product. And here, they had all this information about each voter, collected and weaponized by Cambridge Analytica. Susceptible Black people were told that Hillary didn’t care about them; people on the Left were told that she was a corporate warmonger. They were encouraged not to vote. Finally, all this data enabled targeted voter suppression; it wasn’t just some general efforts to deny the vote to minorities. And that is why, a few weeks before the end of the campaign, Manafort wrote, “Watch WI, MI and PA.” He is not some kind of electoral expert; he knew what CA and the Russians were doing in those states. All the stupid comments about Hillary blowing the election, not visiting the right states, are just more propaganda, plus the basic hatred coming from the propagandized Sanders Left. She did not run a perfect campaign, but who does? But she would certainly have won, but for the traitorous Trump collaboration with Russia, and a President who decided it was not prudent to warn the populace about what he had been told by intelligence agencies about it.

What we keep learning more about, is the absolutely horrifying betrayal of our democracy by the Trump campaign specifically, and undoubtedly aware Republicans generally. People are still so brainwashed, that many turn away from these revelations, or try to dilute them; because to fully imbibe them, means to comprehend that the election was literally stolen, and yet there is nothing that we can do to reverse it, which of course was the point. That makes two stolen elections in the last 18 years, with dreadful consequences. One side will do anything to win, even sell the country to Russia; the other side doesn’t behave in that way. I would like to see massive demonstrations with “Remove Trump, install Hillary” signs, or the like. That won’t make it happen, but this acquiescence to what went on, this attempting to somehow blame it on Hillary, the perennial American scapegoat, is not only just wrong, it is an obstinate unwillingness to confront exactly what has happened to our democracy. If any, much less all, of this had somehow happened to Obama during his campaign in 2008, there would have been riots in the streets. If it had happened to a Republican, which of course is impossible, because Democrats do not do this, there would have been civil war. The story is that had Gore been given his recount and the Presidency, Republicans were planning an armed march on Washington. The 25-year war against Hillary has caused far too many people to desperately try to rationalize or accept the treason, and convince themselves that it was somehow her fault. The other alternative, is just too frightening for many to accept. To save the country, it cannot be, it must be faced head-on.

    • Having any kind of restorative solution to what happened in 2016, like installing Hillary will not happen, though I would like that to happen. Next best thing for us to do is to treat the media like garbage, not fall into their narrative spell for 2020 and elect the best qualified candidate of our choice. Media motherfuckers will try to interfere but we won’t succumb to their shenanigans.

    • William
I would call it even more sinister than a “horrific betrayal” – I would to so far to call it treason what trump and his campaign did in order to ensure his “win”. I even believe trump knew that the Russians intended to hack into voting systems in those 3 states to tilt the electoral votes in his favor.

This was trump’s penultiment “art of the deal” between him and putin.

  6. Seriously, why would Republican Senator Lindsey Graham believe that any non tRump cult follower would accept as truth anything he says about Mueller? Nevertheless, He Persisted …. what a pain.

  7. I don’t know why there is not more pressure on (should I say Motherfucker) McConnell to bring the House bills for vote on the senate floor to reopen the government.

  8. If you oppose trump (I know you do) and your senators are Republican, I think you should pick up the phone to bombard them on behalf of the federal workers. Because they can’t say anything about the shutdown or organize, you have to act on their behalf. Call your Republican senators now to reopen the government.

  9. If you live in a state with Republican senators, call them! Bombard them with calls to reopen the government. If you live in Kentucky or not, burn McConnell’s phone.

  10. Why are not reporters asking the mfer or other Rs this question?

  11. The “wall crisis” is a distraction from Muller’s findings, the latest developments with the Russian lawyer indictment and Manafort’s dealings with oligarchs during the campaign = collusion and the dossier coming to reality.
That’s what “Ignoramus” is having his desperate tantrums.

  12. I hope McConnell chokes on a pretzel. No, this is not about the wall. This is about hurting people. Cruelty is the goal.

  13. This twitter thread has some interesting ideas on why trump is doing this shutdown. 1) his emoluments court case has come to a stand still; 2) the tweeter says that trump left out opportunity zones in his NAFTA 2.0 version and now Mexican president Obrador is trying to reap benefits from the loophole offering US companies incentives to move. Seems plausible.

  14. Good thread…

  15. I was looking for this, a list of Republican senators up for election in 2020. Check this thread.

    • Republican Senators up for re-election in 2020

      Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee)
      Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia)
      Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana)
      Susan Collins (R-Maine)
      John Cornyn (R-Texas)
      Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas)
      Steve Daines (R-Montana)
      Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming)
      Joni Ernst (R-Iowa)
      Cory Gardner (R-Colorado)
      Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina)
      Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Mississippi)
      James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma)
Martha McSally (R-Arizona)* don’t know if she is up in 2022?
      Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky)
      David Perdue (R-GA)
      Jim Risch (R-Idaho)
      Pat Roberts (R-Kansas)
      Mike Rounds (R-South Dakota)
      Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska)
      Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska)
      Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina)

  16. Just saw a poll on Lawrence about who gets the blame: Ds 30%, Rs 5%, trump 50%…
Why are the Rs being spared? This goes to what the media is not doing well. Republican senators could pass the house bill which they passed before (before the manbaby started his tantrum), but McConnell is not bringing those bills for vote. Why are not people told about this? Klobuchar said it in a video. But Dems need to beat this drum every hour of everyday on every fucking TV show they are on. Why are they not. Also start spreading that list of Rs up for election in 2020.

{Oh, the great Ezra Klein is going to tell us that trump does not really want the wall…} /sarcasm

  17. wow, everything is getting worse.

  18. Also the DNC hack got the Ruskies, the Dem analytics data.
