How do you solve a problem like Butina?

Maria Butina has decided to “fully cooperate” with the prosecutors who are investigating her actions as a foreign agent and her ties to the NRA.

I’m going to take a guess here that Trump’s was not the only Republican campaign that accepted rich and creamy dark money donations from the NRA.

The Parkland students found that out earlier this year. We’re talking about you, Marco Rubio.

Let’s try to get into the heads of all those Republican Senators who knew the source of all that gun money and did (and are doing) everything the Kremlin wants right now. How do they feel about what Maria Butina is going to say?

We can also dispense with the notion that the Russians were just interested in causing trouble and weren’t willing to do anything to win the 2016 election. Let’s dispose of that fantasy right now. You don’t go to all this trouble with the Facebook stuff and the hacking and the wheelbarrows full of cash to everyone running as a Republican if you aren’t interested in winning.

Vlad had a moment on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. It went something like this:

I suspect he’s also read a lot of Sun Tzu.

“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”

How does that feel to you, oh fellow American?

  1. How are the Rs still standing after all this? The party needs to be burned to the ground. You know there is not enough outrage at the Rs and media is a problem with their both sides narrative. We have said all this again and again. Why are not good people taking to the airwaves and educating those who need to be educated. Lately I am seeing Neal Katyal make appearances, there is a valiant group of women prosecutors waging daily battle. We need more. I want anybody and everybody who has credentials to go on TV and preach/howl. Get the Republican motherfuckers scared, dammit! Let us do the right thing by the country.

    • And there is this strange bedfellows thing going on.

    • We need a movement to turn the Rs. Make it toxic which it is to stay as is. We need more investigative reporting from the media to hunt and expose the Rs.

    • Of course, the lazy and corrupt Media is pulling their usual “see, both sides are equally bad” after the meeting in the Oval Office that Trump tried to bully and lie his way through. I expect Nancy Pelosi to be their favorite piñata for the next two years.

      • Schumer needs to get out. Give it up to someone else more clever at handling the bully.

      • Probably time for another Democrat who “wants to rise above party labels” to be the media’s favorite, as we oscillate between eras where the Republicans in power stomp on the Democrats’ heads, and those where Democrats in power must work together with Republicans, in order to fix 10% of the damage due to the stomping; whereupon Republicans can win again and commence more stomping. Is that O”Rourke? Biden? It may not matter, as any Democrat who wins election is inevitably demanded by the media to have Republicans in the cabinet, and to always work across the aisle “to find common ground.”

And of course, the media is never really interested in the substance of a political argument, all they care about is that there was an argument. Pretty much like the Jerry Springer show, or Survivor.

  2. Sounds exactly right to me RD. What puzzles me now is whether Butina’s “cooperation” is also part of the plan. If it is not, she is dead meat. I am afraid that a very large number of Americans have no idea (or even care) about what is happening. By the time it dawns on them, if it ever does, it will be too late. Maybe it is already. I don’t think voting is going to save us. Too slow even if we still had fair and free elections.

  3. trump and his minions do not belong in public service.

  4. Wow, get Schumer out of there or he should show himself out. We need a better leader.

  5. From everything I can gather, Maria Butina is a Russian spy, whose goal was to infiltrate the Republican Party and the NRA, to help get Trump elected, for the benefit of Russia. I would not trust her one bit about anything. What she wants is to get out of the country, which apparently would happen if she were given a light sentence and then deported as a felon. I would not be inclined to believe anything she said to prosecutors, but we will see. The first question I would be interested in, is how she got called upon first by Trump in the press conference, given that he supposedly had no idea who she was, as she was not in the press corps.

I never saw an Inspector Clouseau movie (I love mysteries, hate mystery parodies), but I will still analogize to say that it has seemed like one of them, with all the evidence of Russians in this country, Russians meeting with Trump people, the NRA going to Russia (a country which bans most guns) for a big dinner party; and yet people, including the media, looking around in bafflement, not putting the large dots together, saying, “Well, we don’t know if there was collusion or not…” It could not be clearer if there were a big sign saying “COLLUSION DONE HERE” in front of the White House. Trump was the Russian candidate, cultivated by them for at least a decade. I always thought it was odd when Trump kept talking about maybe running for President a decade ago. But not it is obvious; Russia was bankrolling him while they were grooming him. All this about “Well, they didn’t think they would win,” belies the fact that Russia very much intended for him to win, and did everything they could to elect him, and stop Hillary from becoming President. When Kevin McCarthy said to Paul Ryan, “Is Putin paying him?,” and Ryan essentially said, “Ssh! Keep it in the family,” they knew. And if one wants a Condon/Frankheimer twist, it is possible that the real player. the real Moscow candidate, is Mitch McConnell, who is much smarter than Trump, much more insidious, with a goal of turning America into an oligarchy of fascists; but who could never literally be elected President.

  6. On another topic, never forget that if the government shuts down, it is Trump doing it. Republicans control the House until January 3. If Trump cannot get funding for the wall, it is his Congress that is not passing it. As always, Trump is trying to deflect it onto someone else; that is why he had this TV meeting today. Never to compromise, just to get more TV time, and to blame the Democrats.

  7. Make him resign NOW. Does America want to be seen as the country taking corporate hostages for trade deals? This is unheard of and dangerous. This guy does not know what he is doing. He is running this country like he ran his two-bit sleazy, corrupt companies.
