Trump Weakened Over Scott Pruitt’s Resignation

Scott Pruitt has finally resigned. That means Trump has accepted his resignation. That must have been a hard thing for Trump to swallow. All this year, Trump has defiantly defended the indefensible behavior of his spendthrift EPA Secretary. Pruitt could apparently do no wrong that Trump wasn’t willing to overlook in order to screw Democrats over and generally enrage anyone who valued clean water, air or earth.

I can’t imagine why he finally accepted the resignation now but someone or something made him back down. He did it after a holiday hoping no one would notice but of course this is too big to pass up. For all we know, he plans to appoint a different, heartless, careless, corrupt climate denier. Or maybe he’ll roll the EPA into the Department of Agriculture. Yeah, that’s the ticket! Let’s see the EPA just try to regulate pesticides and fertilizer. That will make the crunchy granola libtards scream their bloody heads off.

So, let’s summarize: he reversed his order about separating families when the outrage got too big to ignore, he lowered the flag to half staff in honor of the fallen journalists at The Capital, and now he has accepted Pruitt’s resignation. I don’t know if there’s a strategy here but it sure makes him look smaller and more vulnerable than we thought and as Trump knows, image is everything.

  1. Right on the money. He is a coward nincompoop, ignorant mfer. Say boo to him all the time but the problem is the media which does not do enough of conveying the outrage we feel about him and his corruption, his ignorance, his cruelty…and may we say his treason, (why is he meeting with Pootie alone? why are the Republican congress critters in Moscow on July 4th of all days?)

Here is the thing. Among all big names from past administrations and other political/judicial/intelligence/other spheres, Brennan has been forefront and he makes TV appearances. His reply tweets to the babyfingers are phenomenal. I think more of them should do more of it and why aren’t they? Where is Sallyy Yates, where is Lynch, where is Holder, and where are the others? Why can’t they go on TV and create a buzz so that media won’t ignore the situation or write about another trump supporter article? And, Mueller better hurry up!

  2. She is the woman with a child who confronted Pruitt in a DC restaurant.

  3. Let us get this laughingstock “you can’t subpoena phone calls’ congress critter out next…outrage away!

  4. This is crazy. It acts as a shortcut to people from Connecticut Ave. going to Rock Creek side and through a nice park setting…

  5. 😈

  6. For decades, Republicans have managed to convince people that they are a party of honor and order, when the truth is that they are a party of grifters, paying each other off with tax cuts, emoluments, crooked deals. Just because someone yells “drain the swamp,” does not mean more than yelling “law and order” or “patriotism.” But somehow they get credit for the slogan. Democrats almost never have a slogan, except for Obama’s “hope and change.”

Unfortunately, the replacement for Pruit will continue the job of dismantling EPA regulations. The person who apparently will take his place for now, is a former coal industry lobbyist. However,I am glad that Pruitt is finally gone, because he is the worst of the worst.

Just now watching MSNBC, I get to see how much fun right-wingers are having, getting to debate who the Supreme Court pick should be, gleefully choosing among a crop of Extreme Right Radicals. I guess that Democrats simply do not get to choose any more Justices. It is infuriating that Republicans’ refusing to hold a hearing on a judge nominated by a Democratic President (didn’t the 2012 election “have consequences”?), has now become something to shrug about. If Democrats had ever done that, we would indeed have had the second civil war, rioting in the streets, shooting of people,, bombs planted in Congress a la Guy Fawkes. But since Republicans did it, it’s admired as “hardball politics,” and they get to reap the rewards.

  7. Ooo, Ari Melber is going for the jugular. Too funny.

  8. Media is taking a victory lap over Pruitt’s resignation. The fact that he lasted that long shows media is not all that effective. But if they believe in their magical powers, maybe they can do the same with the WH squatter. What are they waiting for?

    • I think they might be buying a clue.

      • Saw this on your twitter feed. This is it! Can the media make a story of it and stop him from having these fucking rallies (where he praises Putin and denigrates everyone else)? I don’t want my tax dollars spent for this. Period.

        https://twitter.com/Goss30Goss/status/1015000433675374592

        • The only people in history or the present day,who held these kind of rallies are fascist demagogues. This should be obvious. The media doesn’t dare to say it. They would rather give Trump the free air time. If the sound were turned off, and all you could see was Trump;s angry face and bellowing, you would think you were watching a version of Hitler who looked like Goering.

          • We’re living in an age of Caesars. Oswald Spengler predicted this even before the rise of Hitler, Mussolini, etc. The basic scenario is that when a culture falls into decay, its institutions become corrupt and opportunistic, and then the people yearn for a strong leader to set things right. That’s your God-Emperor.

          • Yes, they long for a strong leader. But they probably shouldn’t have one. The reason being that the people who have contributed to the inequality, discontent and
frustration are the very people who promote the strong leader. They ally with him to inflict even more inequality, discontent and frustration. In fact, they go to great lengths to make sure that inequality, discontent and frustration continues indefinitely and that the strong leader is replaced with another strong leader who enforce learned helplessness.
So, in the end, it’s a self fulfilling prophecy and the strong leader leads them deeper and deeper into decline.
Your strong leader will never help you.

          • Replying to RD here: exactly! Tyranny of the misfits and we can’t fight them with our civil society constructs. The challenge is how without getting down and dirty. Maybe rejecting outright and walking away. Starve the beast.

          • We got VERY down and dirty to defeat Original Recipe Fascism.

Holy Ascended Madoka preserve us, we may need to do it again. 😦

          • rd, except … we are getting it. Trump has already delivered beyond what we could have imagined in 2016. (He has the highest approval of his own party for any post-WW2 President.) You guys have the big institutions of media, corporations, academia, permanent government (ever ask yourself why?), but Trump has the military and has rallied the people behind him. He has reduced you to defending illegal immigration of violent criminals and child traffickers. Your ideology is being so thoroughly routed that you can’t even process it — your cogdis continues to shows up in weird disconnected obsessions like Russia. If you are frustrated and discontented, well, good! You should be! Stop supporting the massive invasion of our country, stop trying to turn us into a Latin American country, and you’ll feel a lot better.

          • Trump has the military?

            Proof, please? 🙄

          • Oh, and “the people”?

            Which people?

          • blizz, for many decades, I thought that I could make my immediate family see reason when it came to evolution. After years of trying, I stopped wasting my time. In spite of irrefutable, solid, proven evidence, they simply weren’t going to believe it without proof by their own eyes. There was no point in arguing with them. Theirs is a completely different worldview. Now, when ever they want to talk about evolution, imagining THEY can convert ME to their way of thinking, I just cut the conversation off and move away.
There’s nothing to be gained by staying. I am immovable because I actually understand how evolution works and they are resistant to understanding something that makes them feel slightly less than human or special in the eyes of god.
That’s where I think you and I are. We do not see the world the same way. And you have this notion that the rest of the country signed up for this when all the evidence shows that they did not.
Only a small minority gives AF about the imaginary hordes of dangerous gang violent two year olds storming the borders. And those of us who have lost our careers to offshore workers and immigrants on H1B visas are not going to join your side in a zillion years because it’s stupid and self destructive.
You are talking to a wall, Blizz. I admit, I am an impenetrable wall of rationality to you. I do thought experiments and try to look beyond your own self interest and amplified sense of rage and entitlement and see that you will be just as unhappy with the state of the country in 2020 as you are today, and just as likely to vote for someone who will promise more harshness for everyone and from whom you will get no improvement.
Come back in 2 years and tell me I’m wrong. I’ll wait.

          • If Trump is Caesar, I guess Ronald McDonald and Colonel Sanders will play the roles of Brutus and Cassius. 😈

          • Only a small minority gives AF about the imaginary hordes of dangerous gang violent two year olds storming the borders.

Blizzy and his ilk think this Wacky Package is reality. 😛

          • At this point, Blizzy isn’t drinking the Kool-Aid, he’s mainlining it. 😆

  9. Look at this. Our hard earned tax dollars going towards protecting trump Klan even he would not acknowledge before his WH squatting.

  10. LOL, Heritage fuckers trying to school (ever so gently) the traitor, Pootie’s puppet

  11. Yep, I said this. They will not outright overturn it but it is like a death by 1000 cuts. It will be pretty useless when they are done.

    • When women finally have had enough like they did in Ireland no matter what the Supreme court wants to do it will not matter. It seems we have had that had enough moment over the last 18 months. So these governors had better beware because we are going to be gunning for them since they’re the ones that are doing the dirty deeds more so than the supreme court.

  12. Yep, I have noticed his “catch me if you can” chutzpah, haven’t you and more and more recently?

  13. MEEP MEEP ! 😈

  14. So China is benefiting and trump personally benefits, but who is getting screwed here, US? People want to ask why and whose side trump is on? Who benefits from a weakened USA? China? Russia? Again, ask whose side is he on?

  15. Excellent comment by Rufus Magister (no, I am not RM) over on The Daily Banter:

“Seems like Pepe the Frog is enjoying the nice, increasingly warm pond in which he swims.” 😈

  18. Exciting news! Giuliani says that Trump will answer questions from Mueller team, if they can prove (to them, ostensibly) that there is probable cause that Trump has committed a crime! Also, Giuliani says that Mueller team has promised that they won’t ask questions about Cohen, and that they have told him “that they don’t think there is much there.” Uh-huh. That is an absolute lie, and anyone in the media with a semblance of an intellect should realize it and not repeat it. Giuliani is a thoroughly evil person who has sold his soul to something or other. That’s his problem, but the media doesn’t have to repeat his complete fabrications.

This started with another NYT story from Michael Schmidt, who told us today that there is some evidence that Trump’s strategy is working. Schmidt apparently also fancies himself as a political analyst and social commentator. as well as a newspaper reporter. I continue to believe that Trump is feeding him most of his stories, for their mutual advantage. Why do people not consider “how does he get these stories, and what are the motives of the people who give them to him?” These are not “scoops,” they are not “leaks,” they are stories fed to them for a purpose. Anybody can write stories based on something someone in power tells them. Is reporting now devolved into “knowing Republicans?,” because almost all of the “leaks” are coming from them. And as to Giuliani, why is the media even repeating this idiocy? He is saying, “if you can prove to us that Trump committed a crime, we will talk to you.” Media solemnly repeats it as if it actually has some meaning to it. Media will then say, “well, they couldn’t meet the demands of Trump team, so both sides at fault for no interview.” Please let me know the next time someone tells an investigator or law enforcement,”I will talk to you only if you can prove to my satisfaction that I have committed a crime. Oh, and also that you prove to me that it is essential that I talk to you. Otherwise, no interview.”

    • Case in point… this loathsome guy Peters is called on to panels to opine on any number of current affairs on MSNBC. He does not have the intellect nor the passion to research other issues of significance but yeah, Alan Dersh is important. Stop putting these ignorant mfers on your shows…

    • Listen to the first 7 minutes of Dean Segura’s intro blasting the NYT political reporters for where we are now.

  19. TDB again:

The Magnitude of the Fight Ahead of Us

    https://thedailybanter.com/issues/2018/07/06/todays-white-republicans/

The media likes to talk about white Republican voters like they’re under some kind of spell. They talk about the Republican Party like they’ve led their base astray somehow. This is garbage. While it’s true that Fox News, AM Hate Radio and right wing hate sites made them easier to manipulate, the American right have been monsters for literally hundreds of years.

They fought a bloody civil war to keep other humans as slaves. And when they lost, they continued to terrorize black people until the federal government was forced to quell the violence. Even then, the lynchings and destruction of entire towns didn’t stop. When white conservatives felt threatened by black people acting like free men and women, they lashed out in the most murderous ways imaginable.

During the Civil Rights Era, white conservatives, who would later become white Republican voters, again terrorized blacks to keep them from demanding the right to be equal citizens. They viciously attacked peaceful protesters and murdered activists. The idea of black people being allowed to participate in democracy drove white conservatives to bloody violence time and time again.

I could write another thousand words about how violent white Republican voters are and how it’s always motivated by white supremacy and now white nationalism but you get the idea: None of this is particularly new. The American right has always been, at its core, violent and sadistic and cruel. The only thing that kept them in check was our system of government and a sense of national unity. But now that white Republican voters have given up on American democracy and no longer feel America is worth saving, they’re, at long last, giving into their inner fascist and embracing the most evil part of themselves without reservation.

  20. This is like the Bethany Beach Bookstore where I encountered a MAGA trumper running the front of the store. One important point lost in all these events happening more now, is that people are frustrated by the media/TV/NYT not doing enough to put these motherfuckers in their place and on top of that they scream for civility and surrender. People are frustrated/outraged and feel the need to take this matter into their own hands and credit to them for doing what they are doing, peacefully.

    {reminds me of another rather innocuous situation — walking on Cordell after dinner, we pass a bunch of men and one of them throws a soda can on the road and I involuntarily say, ‘you can’t do that!’ and he hears me and says ‘you’re right’ and picks up the can. We sometimes just have to say it out loud what is right and what is not.}

  21. h/t Bub, the Grieving Zombie over on Wonkette. 😆

“Say, Kelly and Sarah, have you seen them yet
Oh but they’re so freaked out, D-D-D Donnie and his Tweets
Oh but he’s nuts and he’s racist too
    Oh Donnie he’s really mean
He’s got orange hair, and spraytanned skin
You know I read it in a magazine
    D-D-D Donnie and his Tweets”

  22. This video gave me the chills. Kindness is its own reward. Tell that to a trumpanzee!

  23. You know there is a lot of weird stuff I am seeing, with evangelicals and adoptions and child trafficking and family separation. you know adoptions is code word between trump and putin. What the hell is going on? And then here is this bit of news. GOP are all predatory in one form or another.

  24. Following up on pm’s last post: 👿

    • “Concubine of Satan” may not be fair, though–as far as I know, B!+ch Goddess DeVos has never opened her kimono to Vladimir Putin. 😈

    • Yep, this (not this particular tweet but same subject) is one of the things I saw and more. Scary!

  25. It occurred to me the other day that maybe the real goal of Russia trying to rig the Brexit vote was go get rid of David Cameron, who has been replaced by what looks like an ineffectual Prime Minister in May. Shades of John Le Carre.

  26. It would take more than George Smiley to unravel the web of evil and corruption that apparently now spans the glob, linking oligarchs of all nationalities, who care only about their wealth and power. And it would take much more than that to actually do something about it. Maybe a great U.S. President,, together with a strong British Prime Minister,, could make headway. But right now we have neither, leas of all here. I would suggest that whomever we Democrats support for President in 2020 be someone with the grasp of world affairs and the determination necessary for this herculean task. Hillary wold of course be the obvious person, but she won’t run, and the oligarchs have done everything they could to demonize her, removing her as a threat. Watch the next primary campaign very closely, because I am certain that the Russians will try to help Democrats who either can’t win, or would be ineffective in office. And I am convinced that some of the media, perhaps unwittingly, is very susceptible to this kind of Russian propaganda.

  27. Putin, like Hitler before him, is the only leader of a major power to understand the full military potential of a new technology: for Adolf it was the internal combustion engine, for Vlad, it’s the Internet. 😡
