Just stumbled across this today from Mia Farrow, mom of Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow:
Was I the only one who shuddered when I read that? If it’s true, there might have been a time when Anthony Kennedy would have to recuse himself. So, Trump pushed him out?
Why wasn’t this public knowledge since day one of the Trump administration? Didn’t we have the right to know this?
Also, what the hell is going on with the Republican House Reps?? They sure want their hands on the documents that the justice department has. Could they be worried about the 4 million documents seized in the raids on Michael Cohen’s office? Cohen was the deputy finance chair of the Republican Party and worked along side that Broidy guy who is already a convicted felon and supposedly set up an abortion for his playmate mistress (no one actually believes Broidy knocked her up. They think it was Trump).
The picture that’s forming is really scary. It’s like the entire Republican Party is involved in this Russian scandal in one way or another.
If this was a fair world, the GOP would be declared illegal and disbanded. It would have to start over without all of its corrupt members. It would be very small.
Funny how there seems to be no line Republicans will not cross in their quest for unlimited power. And how Democrats will not cross any line no matter how awful their opponents are. It might be more virtuous to be a Democrat but it comes at such a high cost.

Whoa, I had an inkling his retirement was not kosher… didn’t I comment to that effect in the previous posts? Where is the media? Why do we have to hear this from Mia Farrow? NYT says he was COAXED, is that euphemism for blackmailed? What of his son would be exposed?

As I have been saying, the non-trumpers among the GOP have to come out and become independents or Democrats, in droves, if they want to preserve this country. Now, we also can understand why trump is gaining a better foothold every single day he stays in office because there are a lot of people in the party that are complicit and co-conspirators. It is as if, we are past the threat of blackmail from a foreign adversary of the head of state and now they are blackmailing all the party apparatus to fall in line.

FUCKING Media asleep at the switch again. And even now the NYT article puts a benign veneer on it all in their articles without putting out the information that may raise red flags.
Can you imagine any other president pushing out a SCOTUS?
“Asleep at the switch”, or malfeasance? 😡
Y’all tell me if you’re getting tired of my saying the following:
The owners (and higher-ranking employees) of the “mainstream” media, just like their wingnut counterparts, are wealthy (in the case of the owners, extremely wealthy) people who want Republicans to control at least one house of Congress or the White House always, so that those horrible Democrats can’t raise their taxes.
The rich media weasels, just like the other McDucks, are mostly a pack of traitors who don’t mind selling our country to Mommie Dearest Russia to keep their “Preciousss” tax cuts.
So why is MAGA Maggie writing this article now, after the horse bolted the barn as if? How long was she in possession of this ‘effort’ by the WH?
“There were no directs efforts to pressure or lobby Justice Kennedy to announce his resignation on Wednesday.”
MAGA Maggie the WH stenographer.
Good post, RD. People have started to talk about this angle (his son/Deutsche Bank)… But after the fact as everything trump.
SCOTUS Kennedy seat should not be filled until people hear from Mueller about trump. Start calling your reps and senators.
I think we have a right to know whether Trump pressuring Kennedy to resign was another attempt to obstruct justice.
YES! And all those 5-4 decisions and his torment over the travel ban decision not that he was a paragon of humanity, he was still a republican.
Kennedy was also the judge on the 9th circuit who used Washington State AAG (later promoted to AG for her successful work against women) Christine Gregoire’s brief to overturn AFSCME vs. State of Washington, costing the women employees of that state over $838 million that they’d been awarded in raises and back pay and ending comparable worth wage equity in the U.S.
Neither were friends to women. Like Mrs. O’Connor, they did just enough to allow media to claim a “centrist” position for them, and pull the wool over women voters’ eyes. Both Kennedy and O’Connor dealt death blows to women’s ownership of their own bodies, and to women’s right to protection from male violence, but because they didn’t outright overrule “Roe v. Wade”, the Male Owned Media could portray them as *mostly* on women’s side. (and I entirely agree with IBW – it’s not just men, but rich white men, who own and control the media)
Wow, thanks for the history on Kennedy. My gut feeling is that Rs are afraid to overthrow R v W outright. They will kill it by little by little and make it mostly useless.
How much of this was trump’s rallies and encouragement from the squatter himself? Don’t stop asking the tough questions. The suspect had a long history of harassing the paper and was a known quantity but police could not restrain him until now.
They are all intertwined. They all work together in some fashion. Very wealthy people who do favors for other wealthy people, and are rewarded for it with more wealth, and then do more favors. That is what the entire Republican Congress is now. It was somewhat like this in the late 1800’s, where the oil companies and the railroads basically owned all the state legislatures and Congress, and Mark Hanna picked all the Presidents. The only thing that diluted this was all the immigrants coming in from Eastern Europe, and the building of the power of Tammany Hall, which may have been corrupt at the top, but which did help people to get jobs, and gave Democrats a bulwark in New York. The one progressive period in American politics came as a result of the immigrant waves; and from about 1898-1918 there was much pro-worker and pro-lower class legislation passed. And of course the union movement helped give workers a voice. After WWI, people went back to the older ways, and elected three all-business-side Republicans, but then the economy crashed, and they voted for FDR and the New Deal.
But the oligopoly has returned with a vengeance, starting with Reagan. And now it’s combined with corruption at all levels, plus the oligarchy is now international. So while not to be unduly depressing, it is a herculean task to try to break all of this up. It is like the biggest web of conspiracy and economic and political evil that has ever been seen. It is almost predictable that Kennedy would be part of it in some way. No Republican Justice will ever leave the Court under a Democratic President. If one somehow dies during one, the Republicans simply won’t allow the Democrat to appoint a new Justice. Our entire democratic system depends on respect for institutions, and a general decency. That is all gone. The only thing the Democrats can do is to either win about ten straight elections, or in the times where they are in power, simply become a part of the destruction of the system;: try to pack the Court with more Justices, impeach Radical Right Justices, pass laws which specifically damage the economies of Red States, etc. I don’t see how our country can function in this way, but the prospect of 35 years of a Supreme Court NEVER making one good decision, an endless series of pro-oligarch, pro-polluter, pro-gun, anti-abortion, anti-labor, anti-working class rulings, is simply not bearable for the country or its people. Republicans are now a dictatorial class which plays the political system only for winning, without the slightest concern about institutions, about the citizens, or the planet. It is all for a very small group, and they all work together to keep it going. Orwell did not foresee this, but Philip K. Dick basically did. An endless oligarchy which duped the people into voting for its members, and then once installed, clamped its vise upon their ability to vote to change things. and took over all aspects of the media, so that people had no idea what was really going on. That last part, Orwell grasped completely.
Wow, people are surprised by this revelation. How many such expose our lazy media is sitting on? I think some enterprising investigative reporter should print series of profiles of every congress critter who is acting weird and not in the interest of this country and others in every branch of this government.
Again; not lazy, CORRUPT. 😡
Too scary to think all of them are.
“…speech that is dangerous and false is not protected…”
“Very nice son you got there, Tony. It’d be too bad if something happened to him.”
Yep. I was thinking about the same since the time he announced retirement, not specifically his son but his family and now we know the connection, something very fishy is going on.
Pay attention to this! I am beginning to think there are powerful forces behind trump. This below may also be the reason to kick Kennedy out put a loyalist in there. What the hell is going on?

I do not trust Michael Schmidt or the NY Times one bit. I do not trust their sources or their stories. One should not judge on externals, but he reminds me of the character who turns out to be the ultimate villain in a noir film. Schmidt’s newest “scoop” may well get Rosenstein fired, putting the entire investigation in jeopardy. And this “scoop” is based on sources,” who could well be doing Trump’s work for him. I do not know why these NY Times stories are given such credence, when it is clear that the paper deliberately stacked the deck against HIllary in the campaign coverage. A story regarding someone’s “feelings’ is so subject to error or even malicious intent, as to be essentially worthless–except that he know that the White House will react to it, just the way they did when he challenged Trump as to whether looking at his financial records would be a “red line” for him.
I totally agree and was thinking this when I first saw this “scoop”. I believe the most significant part of the NYT story is all of the innuendo re: Rosenstein’s mental instability and emotional lability. That, coupled with the treatment that Rosenstein is undergoing (which has the capacity to destabilize the sanest person, particularly one who has a very keen sense of justice) may combine to push him out as “unfit”. What an irony when compared to the lability of trump. I am terrified of this and worry for Rosenstein.
For the upcoming holiday:
Aaaaand a bit of seasonal cr@wd@d repellent.
“After School Tea Time” (the band from K-On!) goes to the beach.
From John Pavlovitz:
So Now You Want Civility?

Pushing Kennedy out was to secure another loyalist there for upcoming Mueller battles… no vote/confirmation until Mueller reports.
Democrats, get ready!
I read that he is OK with Crimea annexation and now he wants to move troops from Germany… Julia Davis keeps a watch on Russian TV… trump is NOT ours. We know that but why does everybody feel this powerless?
What does fucking Aussie Murdoch care about how he ruins America? American people have to be smarter and PATRIOTIC in the true sense of the word.
