Morning Walk: What’s so funny, Jeff?

Jeff Sessions thinks those of us who hate the child separation policy live in an elite cloister or something:

He added, “These same people live in gated communities, many of them, and are featured at events where you have to have an ID to even come in and hear them speak. They like a little security around themselves, and if you try to scale the fence, believe me, they’ll be even too happy to have you arrested and separated from your children.”

Or you could just let some troubled teenager buy a semi-automatic weapon and get separated from your children. Either way, Republicans don’t seem to GAF how the separation happens.

Yes, we are the “lunatic fringe”.

  1. God, that old fucker is so godawful that trump people find him useful. I feel that this little inhuman (I coined a new word) went into overdrive with this baby jails policy to please trump to keep his job, not that he didn’t also relish the entertainment it provided him (and his other evil sidekick, Miller).

  2. Well, we are not finished talking about the Red Hen. I included a 2012 GOP tweet on a previous thread about this but apparently this guy made the campaign trail then too.

  3. Godless atheist here and a firm believer in all things (humans, animals infestations) being equal under God. True story. New student (and new in the country) and walking to the library on campus at UVA and this man, a stranger walks alongside and asks ‘if I was a Christian’ and I am thinking hmmm… good question and being on an academic campus worthy of Jefferson, I thought, yeah, this may be one of those ‘intellectual’ conversations and I start to answer ‘well, I don’t subscribe to any organized religion but I have my own religion where I believe in morality and being a good person blah, blah” and next thing he says, ‘the rapist next door has his own religion’ and by that time I see where this is going and I also get worked up by the comparison and try to attack his assertion… but the coward that he was, he says ‘thank you’ . ‘thank you’ and walks away while I am still talking (to his back). This was nearly 30 years ago and I was unaware of Republican politics in this country then. Well, if he is still alive, I would guess that he might have been a participant in the trump/Republican induced massacre of Democrats in Charlottesville last year.

  4. Very very impressed! And what is with Crowley living in VA and not living there?!

  5. SCOTUS Kennedy retiring. He could not hang in there for another 2 years? Motherfuckers, all of them!

    • trump is one hell of a lucky motherfucker! His supporters may be cheering right now but it will be dark, dark days for their children in this country if not for their own.

    • Yep. His resignation letter to POTUS…”my dear Mr. President…”

I was happy, last night, to read the CA federal judge decision to block kids being separated from parents going forward, and to reunite all kids under 5 with their parents within 14 days, 30 days for kids over 5.

I don’t think that will go to the SCOTUS, because the optics would be so bad–no! we want to jail kids! I think they’re just on to the next.

Turtle says GOP will confirm a new SCOTUS before the midterms.

Beginning to plan our exit from the US in earnest. I figure we all have about a year left.

      • Roe v. Wade, Dems have been talking about it as a campaign talking point about Rs to run votes for a long time, but now it is a necessity.

      • He could not have announced this at a worse time. What a backstabbing (the country not the Dems) Bastard he is.

      • Start calling it Koramatsu-trump court! not Roberts.

  6. But her emails! Right, motherfuckers?

  7. #Koramatsu-trump-SCOTUS

  8. Rich women can always find a way. It is the others who need it the most and not have the means (the delinquent father is never in the picture to suffer, am I right?).

  9. I had gotten up this morning reading that no Justice announced his resignation. But not only did Kennedy announce it, he apparently did it to give the Republicans the best chance of appointing the most right-wing Justice imaginable. There was some chance–not much, but some–that the Democrats would win the Senate, and thus be able to block appointments, but now they will rush it through, in the exact converse of them not holding a hearing for a year when the Democrats had the appointment.

This will mean that it will take at best 50 years before we ever see a liberal Court. Another 40 year old Federalist to go with Gorsuch, and the relatively young Alito and Roberts, plus Republicans will probably get the Ginsberg and maybe the Breyer seat, too. And as many have said above, this was absolutely predictable when Hillary “lost,” when people just couldn’t bear to vote or turn out for her because they were angry that Sanders lost; they were waiting for Godot to run; they “were making a personal statement.” This might as well be a nightmarish dystopian novel, like Philip Roth’s “The Plot Against America,” except that this one is real. Every possible thing that had to occur to stop Hillary from winning,, occurred, through the fault of every possible bad or stupid person. Like a ten-rail pool shot that somehow came in for Republicans; although we must admit that they had been putting in the machinery for it for decades.

The only hope is that people do not become so demoralized that they do not vote, because there is a risk of that now. The only possible way out of this, as difficult as it seems, is to win back the House, Senate, and then the Presidency in the next elections, and also most of the statehouses. We might then end up in some decade with a replay of the “Nine Old Men” scenario in the 1930’s, where the Supreme Court initially struck down all of the New Deal legislation as “violative of freedom to contract,”until FDR threatened to pack the court with extra Justices, which seemed to encourage them to retire soon after that. The Trump economy will ultimately crash, so we may be in Depression-era territory again, too, sooner than that; so we would see if the Federalists would rule all the salutary legislation unconstitutional.

  10. This thought is swirling my head. What if Kennedy was ‘forced’ to retire? No more terms for you Kennedy! Go spend time with your family. We will get a good replacement who is half your age. His opinion yesterday about travel ban was ‘agonized’ as one guy put it. It looked like what was at stake and not look like he was going to throw in the towel. Anything is possible in trump/Cambridge Analytica/Russia era. Just voicing my gut feeling.
