Predictions?

It’s crunch time. Michael Cohen is going to see a treasure trove of his documents turned over to prosecutors tomorrow. The special master charged with reviewing them found only 134 that were guarded by attorney client privilege out of the hundreds of thousands that were retrieved. And there were three that Cohen says should be privileged but the special master says are not. Ohhhh, to be a fly on the wall of that conference room. What could possibly be in those three documents? Anybody want to guess?

So what is the Russia thing all about? I think In the End we will find that Donald Trump et al was selling green cards to Russian Oligarchs to get around the Magnitsky Act. The Russians helped him win the election for this purpose. I don’t think they met an envelope they didn’t push.

What did they have on Trump? Probably years of corruption and low character behavior. But mostly corruption of the money laundering, bank fraud, intimidation types. Who knows? Judging by his decorating style (Married to the Mob crossed with the Gilded Age. Tacky, tacky, tacky. Overt narcissists ain’t got no taste.), Trump wasn’t into stealing precious objects of art or expensive paintings. Still, there’s something very big he’s hiding. Or maybe it was as simple as the promise of making him the most powerful man on the planet. He likes to play The World in God Mode.

Michael Cohen is the co-dependent flying monkey who finally is waking up to the notion that Donald Trump doesn’t care about him. This will be the fate of every Trumper so pay attention MAGA heads.

What will Trump do in the next couple of days to draw attention from the disaster unfolding in NY? I hear he’s stepping up the deportations of immigrants. Illegal, legal, green card holders, it doesn’t matter. He’s got to show he’s the swaggering lump of soft mean flesh he said he was. What’s destroying families about anyway? They’re only animals.

Well, we’re about to find out just what it is he’s got in mind very shortly. It’s fireworks season.

******************************

Last week, my neighbors built a fence. Whether it was to keep their dog from running into my yard or their kids corralled or so they didn’t have to see me performing sacrifices in the nude (what?? Doesn’t everyone do that?) I don’t know. But the effect was to cut off my view of the back of the houses and the little woods. It’s beautiful. It felt spacious. Now it feels a little claustrophobic. I’m going to ask him if I can paint the side that faces me. Black. Yeah. A row of limelight hydrangeas would look good against it.

Anyway, Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast Revisionist History tackles the unintended consequences of fencing the border. It turns out that it increased the number of illegal immigrants in the country. How can that be, you may ask?

Well, it turns out that Mexicans are human after all. Check it out on Apple podcasts (instantly!) or the home page here (you have to wait til they upload it.)

Throwback Thursday.

My brother used to like Duran Duran. Someone sent this song to me this morning.

  1. Certainly it is going to be like peeling an onion. The Russians were getting something for their money but what I’m not sure. Cohen sure has gotten himself into a mess but it was of his own making. I think the money he got from the Russians is what he used to pay off the 100 women since Trump appears to be cash strapped himself.

  2. Not just Russia, add Israel to this list below…it looks like all bad actors on the world stage were brought together by Russia/China…to elect this mfer.

  3. This thread talks about how to talk about what trump says. As I have commented many times, that is one my pet beefs about the media/pundits on TV talking about trump and his supporters. Use words and expressions wisely.

  4. If you have not seen Bret Baier’s interview with trump, you should check it out. We don’t need any more evidence but…was there a follow up from Baier about Korean war parents being more than 100+ and how ridiculous his lies are…

  5. Yeah, there is a sad irony there but always aspire for the ideal and deal with the risks that come along with it. USA politicians, social media platforms, and Obama administration failed to safeguard the ideal. At least she saw the ideal but she also saw how it can be weaponized by bad actors long before anyone did (it is documented elsewhere — I will put a link below).

    • On a Saturday morning after I’d been in the job for two months—about four weeks after Vladimir Putin’s troops invaded Crimea—I got a call from the State Department operations center saying they had the secretary on the line. Only it wasn’t Secretary John Kerry, my boss, but former Secretary Hillary Clinton. I had known, liked and admired Clinton for a long time, and I assumed she was calling belatedly to say congratulations. I was wrong. After a perfunctory hello, she launched right into it: We’re losing the information war with Russia. She urged me to stand up a much stronger and more robust messaging machine to compete with the firehose of Russian propaganda and disinformation that was besmirching America’s image and undermining democracy around the world. “They’re using the old techniques of repeating lies over and over but doing so on 21st century platforms,” she said. You need to fact-check what they are saying and expose Russian disinformation in real time, she continued. We need to do much more. I remember how she ended the call: “The State Department is still issuing press releases while Putin is rewriting history.”

      She was right.

      • My one ocmfort here is that the old USSR consistently ran rings around us on propaganda and psychological warfare throughout the Cold War, too.

How much good did it do them? 😈

        • *sigh* comfort.

Have I told you lately, TurdPiss (fka WordPress), that I hate you? 😡

  6. WOW!! How can this be?!!!

  7. Breaking?! old news.

    • Yeah, but at least the report lays waste to the lie that Hillary is going to be indicted. The oh, so rich irony is that Comey did work out of a private email account.

      • True. Tweets I am seeing on this are infuriating and depressing. Hillary sort of cracked a joke in a tweet about Comey using his gmail but I want to spit on him.

  8. Ultimately, of course, it comes down to, “what is gong to be done about it?” Impeachment and conviction seem very unlikely as the Congress is presently constituted; and Democrats are unlikely to control the Senate after these midterms. So Trump can just hunker down and know tthat he’s got 40% or so of the country behind him no matter what he did or says. And they’re appointing Federal judges at a record rate; another six years of Republicans would be ruinous for the democracy, perhaps forever. Somehow Trump needs to be dislodged, as well as Pence. But that is very difficult to do. If the much more moderate Congress controlled by Democrats hadn’t told Nixon that he would be convicted, he would have stayed on.. And even then, all we got was Ford; Nixon got pardoned; we won some seats in ’74, and then we barely won the ’76 election, with a conservative Southerner; and then we lost the next three elections, because people bought the anti-government, “we’re for the average folk against the elites” garbage that they purveyed.

So somehow the need is for a narrative which ties this all together and damns the Republican Party. Democrats cannot revert to feelings of guiit at the discomfiture of the other side; and the “okay, let’s all be nice, and work together” approach which the media always tries to force them into when Democrats actually hold power. This all is about far more than Trump, for all his horribleness. It is about a Republican Party which is completely in the hands of rapacious oligarchs, racists, religious dominionists, actual Nazis and fascists. As Paul Krugman wrote the other day, unless the Republicans start losing all the elections, by substantial amounts, for years, the country as we know it is gone. In some almost perverse way, all the Trump evil and buffoonery is almost a distraction and misdirection from what the Republicans are trying to do to the country. Trump is just the carny barker who tries to make it seem like fun. In my opinion, health care, or lack thereof, should be the crucial issue in the midterms, as well as the coming efforts to gut Social Security and Medicare. We can run against every Republican on issues like that, while we desperately hope that we can actually get Trump out of office.

  9. Well, the lawsuit coming out of the NY AG’s office today was a nice surprise. Maybe we’ll get a two-fer with Cohen and Manafort tomorrow.

  10. Everybody failed except Hillary who saw how much of a danger he and his deplorables were, and her supporters who heeded her words.

  11. Busy day today–my living space needed cleaning.

    Happy Flag Day!

  12. AMERICANDA FOREVER!

  13. Guess who? (No, not my showbiz cousin Woody…)

  14. His use of gmail is far worse than Hillary’s use of her own private mail server which was never successfully penetrated or hacked (all she needed to do was take it off the network which she probably did knowing her). Comey on the other hand, was using a third party service provider and putting out his email content in their servers, out of his control; ask which is more irresponsible?

  15. This fucker is what we got, no thanks to Comey… look at him lying through his teeth. He thinks we are all stupid. And what is this new theatrical voice when talking about soldiers? who is giving him acting lessons?
