Be happy and be well. Please be careful about Covid. Viral load matters for infection, spending hours in a house with people is a great way to get infected. Things I struggle with.

This is apropos of nothing. It’s just that there’s too much news, much of it bad, and occasionally I need a break.

So, this is a post about things that wonder me. (H/T Amish people)

First up: what’s the deal with bras? I hate them. They’re stupid and uncomfortable. But our modern culture has such a cognitive dissonant attitude towards them.

For example, it’s not uncommon to see women wearing them in commercials. Yep, underwear all exposed on the National TV. (Say that with a soft mountain drawl). But you wouldn’t dare leave your house to get your mail in nothing but your bra and panties. You might run into your neighbor, the guy with the house painting business. Step outside in your nude colored 36C T-shirt bra sans T-shirt and the neighbor’s wife will never speak to you again.

BUT if you wear a string bikini and sunbathe on your patio and then go get the mail only to run into Mr. B., everything is cool. The church Lady to the left might be incensed but most people won’t care. Ok, they might say it looks stupid on someone your age but other than that? Nada.

I do not understand this.

I still hate bras.

Which made me wonder why ancient Minoans had no problem with the open shirt/no bra look for women. This is a look I can get behind. It channels my inner hippy chick.

I could see something like that being sold at Anthropologie. It looks so comfortable. You wouldn’t want to wear it to work in an air conditioned office but you know, around the house? To the grocery store? To brunch?

It’s all moot here in Pittsburgh where we are still struggling to get out of the 30’s and won’t have a warm day since about February until late next week.

Minoans also seem to have invented bikinis and girls playing ball in a gym. In fact, if you go by the frescos, women had a pretty good life in ancient Crete. They were ahead of their time. Too bad about that whole Thera eruption, tsunamis and cannibalism era. Oh well. Can’t have everything.

  1. I think gravity will make you feel the pain more if you don’t wear anything…?

Saw the most gorgeous skirt in H&M yesterday and it was size 14 and the only one there and sold out online. Lot of bold flowery prints and colors this season, looks like.

  2. I’m the reverse of everybody else then. A string bikini at the mall looks worse than wearing a bra. I guess most people would see it as bra and underwear was not designed to wear as clothing for the world and a bikini is even though you probably are showing more skin. The thing that really makes me laugh people wearing pajamas at the grocery store and other shopping places. I wonder if it hasn’t gotten so extreme one way that people are going to start back into the trend of dressing up more.

    • Speaking of pajamas, I bought a pair at the Gap and it was navy blue and soft as silk and well fitting; I would wear it to work in the summer months and nobody could tell.

  3. You guys should really enjoy this discussion.

    • There’s nothing normal about his presidency. He’s going to wreck havoc. My preferred method of getting rid of him is to buy him off. We give him $10 billion to go away. He has to take Pence with him.
We would be saving so much heartache and misery in the end not to mention all of the trillions of dollars his term is going to cost the economy.
Some might say that sounds like protection money. It is. It sounds crazy. But that’s the way he’s running the country anyway. He wants to run a mafia style operations. Fine. Let’s pay him to leave us alone.

    • He has done as much as Nixon so far and maybe worse conspiring with a foreign adversary (legally) and norms-wise, he has done even more. What makes anyone think he will comply when the judgment day comes. He will have people like you to back him up. So what is the remedy?
