    • How To Be Happy In Bad Times
Last year the New York Times had a profile of two people marrying: one 98, the other 94. They met in gym, they’re both active and happy despite their age. What is their “secret?” “People always ask what it is that keeps us young,” Mr. Mann said. “Of course, one part of it is medical […]

Gabriel and Bathsheba

He accompanied her up the hill, explaining to her the details of his forthcoming tenure of the other farm. They spoke very little of their mutual feeling; pretty phrases and warm expressions being probably unnecessary between such tried friends. Theirs was that substantial affection which arises (if any arises at all) when the two who are thrown together begin first by knowing the rougher sides of each other’s character, and not the best till further on, the romance growing up in the interstices of a mass of hard prosaic reality. This good-fellowship — CAMARADERIE — usually occurring through similarity of pursuits, is unfortunately seldom superadded to love between the sexes, because men and women associate, not in their labours, but in their pleasures merely. Where, however, happy circumstance permits its development, the compounded feeling proves itself to be the only love which is strong as death — that love which many waters cannot quench, nor the floods drown, beside which the passion usually called by the name is evanescent as steam.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

  1. The barista is very friendly. I got another nice little design on my latte. He asked me my name. Must be the good hair day. I mean, I’m old enough to be his ahhh, older sister.

    • Flirt away, RD. It does not cost you anything. I like such instantaneous connections myself. It is just a good feeling being with another human. We can decide what we do with it, where it goes, if it goes anywhere later.

      • Um, no. I’ll just take the latte and some chit chat.

The flower deliveries are coming to the office. I just saw two arrangements being dropped off in the lobby.

  2. Happy Valentine’s Day.

  3. Akari wishes you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

(plus, she doubles as cr@wd@d repellent) 😉

  4. One can get too much of a good thing, however. 😛

  5. “PUT DOWN THAT CAT AND HELP ME!”
