NEW: Previously un-released documents show the government has paid $2.5 million to @realdonaldtrump's businesses. Far more than we knew. Trump Org charged $7,700 for a dinner, $6,000 for floral arrangements…and $3 for POTUS’s own glass of water.https://t.co/fubxgjRPFH — David Fahrenthold (@Fahrenthold) October 27, 2020

    • Interview Part 2: Politics Thru Climate Change

Meanwhile, back in the Lady’s chambers…

… Cherubino confesses his infatuation with the countess and goes off on a tangent about what love is. From Le Nozze di Figaro, pick it up at the 1:00 mark for the aria without all the flirting.

Two headlines

These were the headlines at The Washington Post this morning:

Can it happen here? Of course it can. It already has. This picture was taken by Jacob Riis in 1914 before there were social safety net programs:

Those are homeless children in New York City.

We are returning to the beginning of the 20th century. The nuclear arsenal is getting a make over by taking food and heat away from children. This will happen in a land of plenty.

I might be a bleeding heart liberal but at least I’ve got one.

“At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge, … it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir.”

“Are there no prisons?”

“Plenty of prisons…”

“And the Union workhouses.” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?”

“Both very busy, sir…”

“Those who are badly off must go there.”

“Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.”

“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
