It was almost two years ago that my cousin died of an overdose. I’m not sure of everything he was taking. He was a nice person. The times when I saw him, I didn’t have a clue. He didn’t seem out of it or impaired or anything. Probably the most notable thing was he slept til the crack of noon, which isn’t unusual for a teenager. But he was in his mid thirties so you can’t blame adolescence. He wasn’t a bad person. He was enslaved.
He died way too young.
This part of the country is chock full of people addicted to opioids. Some of them fly under the radar for years, especially in the medical professions where drug diversion is not uncommon.
It’s an epidemic. And there’s not much being done about it. Especially these days as money is increasingly tight for government programs and only the well to do can afford treatment.
Someone should do something.

I’m sorry for your families loss.
Ditto. I wish I knew something clever to say.
I read somewhere that Big Pharma downplayed the addictive qualities of painkillers containing opioids.
They are highly addictive and all too often prescribed. We need better ways to help people handle their issues and it starts in schools and the workplace. Even if it’s a pamphlet of resources or suggested therapy groups… very sorry for your loss riverdaughter
I’m very torn about the opioid crisis because there’s no distinction made between street purchases and prescribed meds.
Now, I can’t get pain relief in the midst of extensive and PAINFUL dental work because I could be the next Walter White disguised as a harmless old woman.
The people I’m really worried about are those in chronic, deliberating pain who are being cut off from drugs that allow them to function as much as possible. They’re being told to suck it up and take two Tylenol.
I read a letter (and believed it) to the editor from a man who could no longer leave his house because he’s now denied an Rx that he’s taken for twenty years. He see suicide as the only, eventual solution.
Let doctors exercise judgment and do the job.
So true
I have been a pharmacist for over 40 years – so much I could tell you –

From “Bruce388” on Mock Paper Scissors:
Saw a tweet today by Roy Moore. Anyone who got dragged to Sunday School knows this rhyme:
Red or yellow, black or white,
They are precious in his sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.
Someone’s response:
14, 16, short or tall,
I’m not picky, where’s the mall?
😈
So funny.
This crocodile just made a YUUUUGE mistake…
