Tom Petty is dead at the age of 66.

😱😭😫

So many good songs. Thank you, thank you.

Yeah, it sure feels like it.

  1. I am posting this at roughly 6 PM Central Time.

His death is not yet certain.

  2. This was one of my favorite videos from the early days of MTV (although I would have enjoyed the song even without a video).

    • Yes, kids (if any kids read this)–once upon a time, MTV’s primary programming actually consisted of music videos! What a concept! 😛

  3. I think this is my favorite… I like the refrain…

  4. They’ve confirmed his death (10pm). He was the soundtrack of my youth, and one of my favorite live singer/entertainers. I was 19 the first time I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in concert. He had us in the palm of his hand from the start and we were completely enthralled until the lights came up. And when they came up, you looked around and realized you shared that journey with 20,000 other people. Amazing catalog of music, amazing entertainer. I am so glad I got to see him a couple of times at the Gorge Amphitheater as well. I loved him as much in 2010 as I did in 1982.

Gone too soon. What a horrible day. Las Vegas AND Tom Petty.
