(POST BY MANDOS – was posted early quite by accident, postscripts below basically with how I planned to conclude) L’affaire Damore The whole kerfuffle about the Damore manifesto at Google and James Damore’s subsequent firing led to the dredging up of old debates about the sources of underrepresentation particularly in technological professions such as […] […]

Stroll: 99 Luftballoons

The Cold War just got hot again.

Ninety nine dreams I have had
In every one a red balloon
It's all over and I'm standing pretty
In this dust that was a city
If could find a souvenir
Just the prove the world was here
And here is a red balloon
I think of you and let it go

Do we have any Jaime Lannisters working in the White House? Just asking…

  1. Thanks a f**king heap, Stupid White Folks of Real Amurka.

    • For future reference, RD, what pix would you consider too big to be directly posted rather than linked (pixel dimensions)?

  2. I never thought I would see the day when I would consider a military and/or spy agency coup to be the lesser evil.

  3. “If this keeps up”, said the ash outline of where Senator Mitch McConnell had been standing minutes earlier, “the Republican Party may need to reconsider its strategies.”

    • Think of all the duck and cover drills.

      • I lived through that. You were instructed to get under your desk in a sort of downward dog position and cover the crown of your head with your hands. Oh, and close your eyes-real tight.
They forgot to say, “Kiss your ass goodbye.”

    • Good one.

    • Would he look like masturbating man from Pompeii?

  4. I am pretty freaked out tonight.

    • Although both MSNBC & CNN have previously unseen Republicans on tonight who are decrying Trump’s ability to lead in a crisis, saying Trump’s not the head of the GOP. Interesting.

    • As you should be, Lady V.
Never have I been so glad to be childless.

      • Never have I been so glad to be childless.

Ditto. As I grow older, I have started to look back at our decision to come and settle here and I am appalled at the gamble we took.

  5. For perspective: At one point in my life, I thought not only I, but my entire civilization, would be dead before my 30th birthday.

I completed 54 solar orbits this year.

I’m not losing any sleep over this–though, of course, I do wish we had a president with better sense.

    • But we can’t underestimate the anxiety heaped on the weak and the vulnerable. I see it everywhere.
