    • The Fall of the USSR
The best book on both successes and failures of the Soviet Union is Mancur Olson’s “Power and Prosperity.”  If you haven’t read it, you should.  The second best is Randall Collins essay in Macrosociology. The great problem with most critiques of the  USSR is that they do not explain its successes.  In the 20s and […]

  1. I found this op-ed column by Charles Blow interesting. Then entire Trump crew must be investigated.

  2. LOTR is so 20th century. Your supposed to cite Harry Potter now.

    • Some books are classics because they have a rich literary history behind them. See The Tolkien Professor podcast

Not that there’s anything wrong with JK Rowling. It’s just that she’s creating an amalgam of other fantasy novels in Harry Potter

      I like them both.

      My favorite Harry Potter quote:

“Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain.”
      –J. K. Rowling

  3. It was a radical song when Lesley Gore sang it in 1963 or 1964.

The NY Daily News had an video of Melania slapping Agent Orange’s hand as they were walking down the red carpet on the tarmac in Israel.

  4. RD, I am wondering if you like “Twin Peaks,” which has just returned. It’s obviously not of the same classical fantasy genre as the ones you like, but it certainly is a singular vision of good vs. evil.

      Just ask Putin. 😉

      • Oh, I can do that. It’s not special. My stupid human trick is I can write backwards as easily as I can write forwards. AND I can write forwards with my left hand while writing backwards with my right. Its my only brain rewiring trick.
Plus my reflexes and reaction times are super fast. Go figure.
But point taken about Putin and Trump.
