Immigrants

Hebrews 13: 1 Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Matthew 25: 35 I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

Leviticus 19:34 The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

  1. Exodus 23:31 “I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you.”

    The problem with quoting from the Bible is that it often contradicts itself.

    • Ahhh, but all ancient cultures had rules governing host-guest relationships. You do not violate a guest who is under your roof. That guest is entitled to your protection.

    • Besides, the quote you are referring to has to do with conquest ethnic cleansing. Sort of like what we did to native Americans. No one thinks that was a good or moral thing.

      • And the Republican’s are still trying to wipe out Native AMERICANs with their toxic pipelines running under their water supply.

        I honestly can’t think of one good thing the GOP nor their Groper in Chief are doing. Somehow, even a good idea, like fixing the ACA with some bs, will only cause pain to the people that need it the most, the poor, seniors, disabled and the mentally ill.

    • You don’t understand the bible then or you’re the one stuck on verses.

  2. https://sites.tufts.edu/gerrymandr/

    A 5-day summer school will be offered at Tufts University from August 7-11, 2017, with the principal purpose of training mathematicians to be expert witnesses for court cases on redistricting and gerrymandering.

    Topics covered in the summer school will include:

    the legal history of the Voting Rights Act and its subsequent renewals, extensions, and clarifications;
    an explanation of “traditional districting principles,” especially compactness;
    a course in metric geometry and mathematical ideas for perimeter-free compactness;
    basic rudiments of GIS and the technical side of how shapefiles work;
    training on being an expert witness;
    ideas for incorporating voting and civil rights into mathematics teaching.

    Out of the five days of the program, the first three days will be open to the public and made available online. For the last two days, we will offer three more specialized parallel tracks, focusing on (a) expert witnessing, (b) teaching, and (c) GIS. Partial funding for participants’ expenses will be available.

    Applications for the tracks are now open and will be accepted from February 15 – March 15, with responses by March 25.

  3. Private prisons and detention facilities driving immigration madness (something I figured sometime back as the force behind this); I wonder if the CBPs are government contractors also. Some of it happened in Obama’s admin but now it will be on steroids.

  4. RD, it is good to tug at the hearts and minds of pliable people about the ongoing ugliness about immigrants. But this whole operation is driven by private contractors and profit to be made, with 11 million for the picking. This is a bigger legal battle than the travel ban EO.

    • Yes, that’s where the profits are. But it never would have gotten this far if millions of Trump voters hadn’t been convinced that illegal immigrants are some kind of pathology creating violence and lowering everyone’s standard of living. Those voters will need to see the people they are expelling and the parents and children they are separating as human beings like themselves before you will ever make a dent in the for-profit prisons.
      There has to be an outcry to stop it.

      • 🙂 I believe these three will be getting a lot of updates in the next few days… UpholdTheseRights.com/DACA.html (on deportation), /Immigrants.html (in general), and /MuslimList.html. Today, a Repugnant Rep. Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) introduced Georgia House Bill 452 to require Georgia to “create and maintain a website listing any unauthorized immigrant currently in Georgia.”

  5. Apparently a significant percentage of our medical doctors come from foreign countries, many from the Middle East countries whose immigrants are now banned. Highly intelligent people who come to America to study medicine, many of them decide to stay and practice here.

    So now, among other awful things, we will have a shortage of doctors. Of course, the Republicans in Congress do not care. They have the best medical care, and have no interest in anyone else’s problems. They are psychologically sick, twisted, soulless people. If a number of people start dying in the streets from new plagues, they will simply walk around them, like they used to do in New York in the late 19th century. Or they will run over them, and perhaps toss their parents a coin, like the Marquis St. Evremonde in “A Tale of Two Cities.”

    • And just in time for the Baby Boomer generation to retire and need more and more healthcare. This is my generation, needless to say the generation that really started organizations like Green Peace, save the planet, stop useless wars, boost the safety net for all, ‘Free Speech’, keep ‘open space’ in cities, where there can be no building and give everyone a place to hike and enjoy nature. Save the oceans, stopping drilling off the coast of Calif….on and on.

      Thanks to this election gerrymandering and Putin’s help, El Douche will destroy as much as he can.

      I am glad my state it standing up to the rapist in the Oval.

  6. The Republicans hated this every step of the way, from JFK’s New Frontier, to LBJ’s Great Society, to Bill Clinton’s revival of the Democratic Party in a liberal/populist vein, to Obama’s building on some of that. They seethed and they obstructed. And they relentlessly gerrymandered and suppressed votes, until with a distinct minority of the votes, they claimed an electoral victory, which they of course took as mandate to destroy all the progress of the last 100 years. In the words of the textbook odious hypocrite and obstructionist Mitch McConnell, ‘Winners get to make policy, the losers go home.” As we know, when Democrats win, they act almost apologetic,and rush to conciliate the losers, and try to work with them, even though the losers despise them.

    In the midst of all this turmoil and destruction, it is a bit grimly amusing to see the media people and other citizens be so astounded at all of this, like they couldn’t conceive of what the zombies would do once they got inside the gates. But you couldn’t tell the media anything, they were going to indulge themselves to the utmost by chasing Hillary stories. And many Sanders people decided that if their man didn’t win, they would just walk away from it all, to show how pure they were. BTW, I finally completely grasped whyTrump, who was once on record as caring about climate change, now competely dismisses it. Because Russia owns him, and because they promised him profits and release of debt in exchange for letting them plunder the Alaskan wilderness in search of massive oil profits. I hope that people in CA and other places do as much as they can to stop buying gas for pleasure drivng, at least for a while.

  7. And the witch hunt continues…they still can’t get over the fact that the public voted for Hillary to win.

    Hillary Clinton Emails: Federal Judge Blocks Access To Redacted Emails Citing No Evidence Of Government Wrongdoing
    Details about internal government documents are usually exempt from declassification under the FOIA, but Judicial Watch said that the records were proof of alleged wrongdoing.

    “We remain curious about the documents…the PR effort remains troubling and something that we think is in the public’s interest to know,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said, adding that his group is “evaluating the opinion and considering” moving on with an appeal.

    News about Clinton’s email scandal was considered by many to be the tipping point that eventually gave Donald Trump the leverage in last year’s presidential race. Former Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, for instance, said Monday that “forces within the FBI” worked against Clinton during a taped NewCo. Shift discussion with John Heilemann.

    He was referencing the “bad judgment” of FBI Director James Comey, who notified Congress 11 days before the election that the FBI was revisiting its previous investigation into the private email server Clinton used while she was the secretary of State.

    • Those fools are chasing bogus emails while Rome is burning. Of course maybe Rome burning is what they want.

  8. New administration is now after transgender students! This. Needs. To. Stop. A bunch of old white fogies mansplaining about why equal rights are “confusing” and such a “hassle to deal with”

    Oh you’ll all be fine, Trump voters said. Tell that to the kid afraid to pee in their schools own bathroom. POS!
