Scary things 2014

The Republicans have a stranglehold on the House, might take over the Senate and the only thing standing between them and our social security benefits is Barack Obama.

Cue the panicked screaming.

What’s even scarier is there are Fox News watchers who are so soaked in lies and delusion that they will have absolutely no idea what hit them until it’s too late.  A lot of very bad things could happen in two years.  On the other hand, maybe the Republicans have to have free reign so people can see what they’re really all about.  Telling people not to watch Fox doesn’t seem to be working.  It just might take some very, very tough love and a heavy dose of betrayal before they get it.  Of course, this might be the last time many people have an easy time voting.  Once they’re in power, it will be more difficult to dislodge them.  All bets are off for voting in 2016, especially for women.  Because if I were the Republican party, I’d busily get behind initiatives to make it much harder for women and poor people to vote.  I mean, harder than it is now.  Much harder.

The rest of us should assume the brace position.

  1. So I’m a female Republican. It’s just amazing to read your perspective on the current political climate. I do watch Fox News. But it’s not my only news source. In case you haven’t noticed, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC – all of them are in bed with Obama. They can’t report anything unless it’s approve by the Obama Administration. I’m sometimes surprised that Fox is allowed to report what it does. One thing I can say about Fox is, if Obama hates them, they must be doing something right. Here’s what a recent article by Erik Wemple in The Washington Post said: “USA Today Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page has added a sharper edge to this set of knives. Speaking Saturday at a White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) seminar, Page called the current White House not only “more restrictive” but also “more dangerous” to the press than any other in history, a clear reference to the Obama administration’s leak investigations and its naming of Fox News’s James Rosen as a possible “co-conspirator” in a violation of the Espionage Act.” Come on – we’re women, we’re smarter than just believing what we’re spoon-fed. There’s not war on women, that’s hogwash. Democrats are smart. If they mention the words abortion, green, diversity, solar panels, amnesty, tolerance – they’ve got you eating from their hands. Problem is, they’ve done a deplorable job running this country. I pray (that’s right, I’m a Christian also) that we can take back this country while there’s still something left for our children. Women and minorities – you are NOT better off since Obama was voted into office. And that “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and the planet began to heal” business that many of us (not me, I’m proud to say) fell for – well, I’ve given up on any of that happening. God help this country.

    • Like I said, “lies and delusions”.
BTW, I don’t watch network or cable news and advise my readers to avoid them as well for reasons that would be clear to you if you’re a regular reader.
Also, I don’t care if you’re christian. I’ve got nothing against religious people but I do actively resist fundamentalism of any kind, including Christian fundamentalism. That is, if you take the bible literally, you and I will not be on the same side.
Finally, I am not now nor have I ever been an Obama democrat. I’ve seen thru him since the beginning. He’s much closer to being a republican than a communist. And if you don’t believe me, call the socialist party and ask it. They wouldn’t have Obama as a member.

    • A fine example of the old adage “Garbage in garbage out”. Ms. S Wright might want to expand her news horizons then again some people like being lied to.

    • Dear S. Wright,

You seem awfully tense. You need to relax.

      Here. Watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i__XhXf9rPI

  2. On the other hand, maybe the Republicans have to have free reign so people can see what they’re really all about
That’s what we told ourselves in 1994 and, to a certain extent, it worked. Seeing Newtie and co. up close and personal was a factor in Clinton’s re-election.
It’s just that, in the meantime, so many vulnerable people will suffer and die.
In Georgia, hospital officials are telling my sil that they can’t send my husband’s 95 year old mother, directly, to a rehab facility because they’ll be sued under Obamacare. My sixty two year old, wheelchair bound sister in law is supposed to pick mom up, take her home and care for her by herself. Mom, too, is now in a wheelchair.
    Bedpans and bumper cars!
    It’s a fucking mess.

    • That sounds like the state of Georgia not being honest. Doesn’t medicare pay some of the costs for home health aides?
Otoh, part of the ACA was to control costs on Medicare. Funny that it’s possible to force patients to control their costs but not hospitalsvor doctors.

    • Did you mil switch to Medicare Advantage, or an HMO version? There are odd rules for them. This is open enrollment time so it’s a good time to look into it.

      • She’s on Medicare (I don’t know which formulation) and has Liberty insurance.
I think that RD is right and the hospital is lying. She’s been in the hospital for four days and they’re saying she wasn’t admitted, she was just under observation.
        For four days?
My husband is flying to Macon, tomorrow to kick ass and take names in the way that only a white man (sigh) can in the deep South.

        • That’s good. We have little enough power. It’s a good thing to use what we can when we need it.

        • I have read that “under observation” is a new trick that hospitals use on medicare patients especially, because “under observation” is legally different than “admitted”. I don’t know if there is a legal way to force the hospital to “admit” you immediately as against classifying you as “under observation” or not.

          • That is such good info; I’ll file that away.
            Thank you.
Family’s big foot (influential) woman Doctor put her two cents in and the entire situation looks much better. Thank God.
It’s just so sad that it’s who you know.

  3. I agree that it may take republican control to wake people up but that is not fair to me, I am and have been awake. I have been suffering thru 13 years of Bush’s policies. Enough already.

  4. And what would people wake up to? The fact that Obama is a secret under-cover Country Club-Wall Street Republican Agent?
Even more interesting is what the Democratic minority Senators would reveal themselves to be.

    • … Who would happily sign his name to legislation that would cut social security?

      • Obama will actively seek such legislation yet again. He did form the Catfood Commission after all, under no pressure from anybody. He would hope to build a Grand Bargain coalition of Catfood Democrats and just enough Republicans to get his Catfood Security bill passed. Our only hope would be that enough Republican Senators hate Obama deeply enough that they will put their own Obamaform plans against Social Security on hold till he is out of office, in order to deny HIM the glory of being the Great HistoriCompromising Democrat who Went To China on Social Security.

  5. God we are so boned!

Only problem in letting republicans stink up the joint is the print and broadcast news media will tell the public it’s perfume and they’ll breathe it in then agree.

The Democrats have a nasty little scam going in that “Vote for us, we’re the lesser of two evils”. They have no morals or spine, the lot of them.

Something related, as you have read the DoD is gifting your local constabulary with cast off armored vehicles in an act of generosity and to save the Feds maintenance and storage bucks. How fortuitous that local law enforcement will now have the means to quell the inevitable riots that will occur when government assistance to the needy programs are terminated in order to fund more 1% tax cuts.

Harry Truman used to say,”The Buck stops here” meaning as Chief Executive he was responsible. That goes double for Obama, Pelosi, and Reid except they’ll never accept responsibility for any of the misery they visit on us.

I’d make a smart remark about karma biting the Dems on the butt this election cycle since they’re predicted to lose the Senate (think what they did in 2008 at the RBC meeting) but for the surviving members it’s means a free ride. They can tell their constituents, “It tried to get the things you wanted done when you sent me to Washington, but those mean republicans … oh by the way send more money so I can keep up the good fight”

    • If Uncle Sam, and the corporations which own him, keep p!$$ing off the BRICS countries, the latter just might decide to provide the rioters with weapons which can defeat the cast-off armored vehicles.

“Oh, but the government will keep out the anti-tank weapons!”

[snark] Just like it keeps out the drugs. As we all know, you can’t get an illegal drug in this country, no matter how bad you want it. 😉 [/snark]

Just another way in which Babylon’s own lords and barons will chant down Babylon.

But as Saruman said to Frodo, “…that is not my doing. I merely foretell.”

      • Orrrr…the BRICS countries might simply embarrass the hell out of Uncle Sam and his masters, the capitalists, by publicly feeding the dispossessed USAmericans. That would have the advantage of being legal.

        • Didn’t the late Hugo Chavez of Venezuela do that with heating oil?

Isn’t that the reason Obama gave him cancer?
