Is this like a little kid who covers his eyes and thinks no one can see him? In a recent closed-door briefing on Capitol Hill, National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers expressed frustration to lawmakers about his inability to convince the President to accept US intelligence that Russia meddled in the election, according to a […]

    • The Black Book Of Capitalism
There is a famous book, the Black Book of Communism, which claims to total up all the deaths Communism responsible for. Strangely, there is no “Black Book of Capitalism.” This is odd, because capitalism has been around longer than communism, has been more powerful, and has controlled more of the world, and the world was […]

Bluebirds, Flowers and Lamb

It’s been awhile since I posted ballet videos but you know how much I love ballet.  In honor of spring, here’s one from the Royal Ballet.  It’s one of the variations from the bluebird pas de deux in Sleeping Beauty.  I’m not a fan of story ballets, especially the kind that consists of a casts of thousands and silly variations (the finger fairy, for example.  Really, Petipa?  Having a bad day or what exactly??)  There are some good solos, don’t get me wrong.  The Rose Adagio is sublime.  But most of the choreography for the other cast members looks like stagey posing with movement thrown in between.  I just want them to dance already and get on with it.

And then there is Sarah Lamb.  She is so light and ethereal.  The movement in her arms never stops like each limb and finger is gently rustled by a soft wind.  This variation video was from her soloist days.  I’ve seen other Royal Ballet soloists perform Princess Florine but none as delicately as Lamb.  She’s a principal now and performances like this one demonstrate why the finishing touches count.

Happy Spring!

  1. The Moscow Ballet has sold out for a performance here in Franklin WNC, Deliverance North, so I won’t be going, though most of my family will. Apparently, we love ballet like its country music (and yes the great majority of tickets were purchased by locals.) Maybe I’ll see one live someday.

    • Where does Joy Womack dance these days? I thought she joined the Moscow Ballet after she left the Bolshoi.

    • My mistake. It’s the Kremlin Ballet where she is guest principal.

  2. Lovely and, yes, to men in tights!

  3. I think we got gypped. We get Fox and our frends to the north get stuff like this.
