    • What happened to California single payer?
From my friend Nicole Belle on Facebook: I feel a bit of a rant coming on. Bear with me. Before I begin, I must provide my caveats: I am a full supporter and big believer that the ONLY answer to healthcare in this country is to migrate to a single payer system. I am an […]

    • The Fall of the USSR
The best book on both successes and failures of the Soviet Union is Mancur Olson’s “Power and Prosperity.”  If you haven’t read it, you should.  The second best is Randall Collins essay in Macrosociology. The great problem with most critiques of the  USSR is that they do not explain its successes.  In the 20s and […]

Whoo-Hoo, Jerry DeWitt makes the NYTimes!

My favorite pastor turned non-believer made the NYTimes front page today in a 5 page story on his deconversion.  I discovered Jerry’s videos early this year, shortly before the Reason Rally.  Jerry was born to be a pastor.  He’s a very charismatic speaker.  He might even make a great politician someday, provided we can keep him away from Atlas Shrugged.  If you have some time, check out how coming out has been one of the best things to happen to him psychologically but the worst thing to happen to his personal life.

And if you haven’t had an opportunity to meet Jerry yet, check out this appearance at Arkansas Society of Freethinkers from May of this year.  It’s a long video but it flies by.  You’ll appreciate how he handles the believer in the audience.  What a mensch.

And this goes out to former preachers who just can’t quit Louisiana:

3 Questions, Maybe 4

Will Democrats propose an amendment that no woman will be forced carry an unwanted fetus…. or be forced to abort one?

Will Democrats propose an amendment making it unconstitutional for Legislators to interfere in the doctor/patient relationship or practice medicine without a license?

Will Democrats propose a Voting Rights amendment outlawing electronic voting machines and requiring the public counting of ballots?

As Lambert says in Oh, my. Akin’s back.

Does anybody seriously believe that electing Obama will make a dime’s worth of difference stopping rape, or for women generally? Why would they? Does anybody actually read what Obama says, or watch what he does? Let’s put the famous “rape is rape” in context, shall we? Let’s roll the transcript:

Go, on — read it!
