Movie Clips: Sophie Scholl- the Final Days

Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans were part of the White Rose, a secret society among some university students in Munich who were opposed to Hitler and the Third Reich.  In February 1943, Hans and Sophie leafleted a university building demanding that students rise up and oppose the Third Reich.  Just as they were finishing, they were spotted by a janitor and arrested.  The movie, Sophie Scholl- The Final Days is about her interrogation and trial.  It was nominated for an oscar in 2005.  You can stream it from Netflix.  I have to warn you though that is is quite possibly the tensest movie you will ever watch.  Some of you may know how the story ends.  Don’t spoil it for the people who haven’t seen it yet.

This clip is from her interrogation.  The dialog comes from the recordings of the interrogation that the Gestapo kept.  While you watch it, the words will sound eerily familiar.  It’s chilling. It’s a brilliant movie.  Highly recommended.

  1. Good post makes one think.

  2. The interrogater is the fascinating character; he’s already dead.
I don’t think he knew about the mentally ill children; he looked stricken.
