    • America Defeats Germany Again
There’s a good article in Der Spiegel on the German energy/industrial crisis which is worth your time. Basically industries which have high energy costs are being crushed. In particular this means chemical and automotive, both big in Germany, but extends far further. (Indeed, the chemical industry was essentially invented by Germany in the 19th century, and […]

  1. I’ve NEVER seen anything like this — beautiful, eerie and dizzy-making!! It was almost too much even to watch it. How does she do it?

    • Practice.

      • Well, yeah. But, that was ALL spinning. And controlling that hoop-dress. I just don’t see how the human equilibreum is up to it. Of course, I can hardly walk across a floor without tipping over….

        • According to Jennifer Homans who wrote Apollo’s Angels, Diana Vishneva is one of the three best ballet dancers in the world. The others are Angel Corella and Alina Kojacaru. Dancers like Vishneva start winning very big prestigious awards in their early teens and they do stand out. Another stand out dancer who is just starting her career is Alys Shee of Canada. She’s so incredibly graceful I could watch her do the same dance over and over for hours. In fact, I have.
Here’s Alys doing Cuckoo from Carnival of the Animals. She’s about 16 in this clip. The video isn’t great. The lighting is bad. But the dance is mesmerizing. Pay close attention to her hands.

        • I am with you kb, I tend to knock over all the other dancers on the stage. So mostly when I am on stage they just don’t let me dance.

I was however part of a summer arts program in Binghamtom NY one summer. I was in the theater doing “The Golden Apple” (a musical no one has ever heard of) and Pilobolus was there as part of a program called “the Dance Umbrella”. That was way back when I was 14, so over40 years ago. They were fantastic then too.

  2. Awesome!

  3. Love the new graphic and link at the top left!

  4. OMG … a whole squad of JWs just descended on our cul de sac !! We’ve left the dog out …. he’s going nuts.

    • why do you hate your dog?

just kidding of course, but I am guessing they will try to convert him too….poor doggy, watch for glazed over eyes when he comes back in. Back in the late 70s when I was first married I had some nice ladies come to the house so I let them in and we chatted. They left me with the latest watchtower. Do you know even then they were still talking about the evil yellow peril? The pictures were all of people with slanted eyes. I found that very funny. But then I find being in my 50s funny too. The older I get the more I laugh at myself. I have an odd sense of humor.

  5. That.Is.So.Cool !

  6. That video is awesome.

OT – and we would have done it without their “permission”…but
