This makes me ill:
TEAM OBAMA BEGINS PLANNING $1 BILLION REELECTION CAMPAIGN
“Bracing for a half-billion-dollar onslaught of outside GOP cash in 2012, President Obama’s advisers are quietly working to bring back together the major donor base that produced a record-breaking fundraising haul in his first run for president. In the past few months, Democratic National Committee aides have contacted several of Obama’s earliest financial backers to brainstorm about when and where to host the first money-raising events. Several big donors said they expect the Obama 2012 operation to open its doors this spring, with a string of fundraisers to generate the early cash needed to rebuild the president’s high-tech campaign operation. … ‘They are getting organized in Chicago to start a massive two-year campaign, which I believe will be successful, but has extraordinarily large challenges in some of the major states,’ said Philadelphia philanthropist Peter Buttenweiser, who hosted one of the first Obama presidential fundraisers in 2007 and is in talks to organize an early one for the re-election. …“Obama was scheduled to go to New York this week to meet with about 25 large bundlers and supporters … but that event was canceled after the Tucson shootings … The one piece of Obama’s fundraising apparatus that has been managed closely since his inauguration is his online, small donor base. … But a billion dollar presidential re-election bid is unlikely to be launched or sustained for long exclusively with small donors. Even in 2008, Obama’s eye-popping online giving was matched with larger donations generated by roughly 700 big and small bundlers. Rebuilding that half of his financial operation is critical to his prospects and talk of it dates back to before the midterms when the president hosted a string of late summer DNC fundraisers. Attached to each of those large events was a smaller gathering where Obama had private time with his biggest bundlers and talk inevitably turned to 2012.”
One billion dollars. That’s almost $4 from every man, woman and child in the country.
But he’s not gonna get that money from a bunch of college kids sending him their beer money like he supposedly did last time. In fact, last time he got most of his money from Wall Street, BP, health insurance company execs, energy company execs, and all the other Joe Moneybags special interests.
ONE BILLION DOLLARS
How much time will Barack Obama be spending at fundraisers during the next two years? What will his donors expect for their investment? What promises will he be making?
How will he spend that money anyway? It’s not like he needs to pay for advertising because nobody knows who he is. Will we see more paid bloggers and summer camps for the Obama Youth?
Below is a screencap from Memorandum. Why aren’t all the lefty bloggers covering this story? I thought campaign finance reform was a big priority in Left Blogistan? I guess that died in 2008 when Obama broke his promise on campaign financing.
BTW – Didja notice the smooth opening? “It’s the Republicans fault!”

That’s just Obama’s money. How much will the rest of the Democrats be raising?
I imagine he’ll squeeze them out of the money train so they’ll be dependent on him for cash just as he did in 08. Or try to.
Obama on Christmas vacation:
One of his problems now is he has never left campaign mode. Not for a day. Hard to govern that way.
Wonder how much he got in Arizona.
There will also be plenty of time for him to go on vacation in 2013.
I look forward to his vacation more than I do for mine
With you there, Dario.
It gets worse. Since the Republican nominee will learn from McCain’s mistake and not take Federal matching funs, this may well be a $2+ billion general election.
On the plus side, that’s only 0.2%of the stimulus.
McCain was a sacrificial Repub. candidate IMO. It was close even with Palin’s being constantly attacked by the consolidated media which was shilling for their corporate “historic” candidate), and the latest money scam bust, Bush 2’s two terms, the phony wars, etc.
Each Obama vote cost either $10 or $15, depending on the source. Imagine how much of that could go to funding mental health in your and my communities, making sure that databases are correct so that the most violent are not able to buy assault weapons (which are designed to kill people in mass and have a real place in any sane society, correct?). Not having that advertising money blown on political candidates who are beholding to special interest would be a great start. I think this time, even more money is needed to manufacture a candidate Obama. What you see is what you get. He hasn’t lived up to his hype to say the least.
Just think about the huge bonuses our media “pundits” will get , given that most of that $2 billion will go to corporate media.
Big stakes for them, eh?
“…civility is censorship” said by Rush Limbaugh Wednesday.
2012:
An election between the candidate of the party of hate and a second round of the obamaparty of hope.
Please don’t quote Disgusting Pigboy here.
Digusting Pigboys to the left us and to the right. Can we just skip 2012 and go directly to 2016?
Hillary vs. Sarah?
I don’t think that will happen unless there’s some scandal that Fitzgerald has on Obama (Blago junk)
It’s Obama against a GOP. It will be a boring campaign without SP. I hope she’s the one to get the GOP nomination.
2016, not 2012
I think Sarah Palin is the only one that can match him with campaign money. I hope she makes the nomination. It’s a theater I don’t want to miss.
Sounds right.
Setting it up — It’s campaign time
Signs and signals:
Dem leadership member James Clyburn says maybe it’s time we “rethink limits on ‘free speech.’ ” (as in, more limits)
Well well well. Just in time.
Oh wow…..that link shows a link to Organizing for America (Obama’s group) where the theme “Together we Thrive” was clearly created, long before the tragedy. So much for the “T-shirts came from the college” meme.
BTW: Clyburn’s daughter sits on the FCC Board.
You are just grasping at something here – no proof whatsoever that the tuscon service, t shirts or anything else came from the white house.
this site has turned into the ‘tell any lie to attack Obama’ house.
One Thousand Million Dollars is a lot of dough. But there is several thousand billion dollars in social security money that needs to be stolen and barry is the guy that just might be able to do it.
Anyone know what bundlers he was going to meet with?
Health insurers, Wall Street investors – especially those expecting Social Security funds, those who stand to make a bundle out of charter schools… The list is long.
Names? there have been a couple of Chicago area/NYC ambassador nominations…does anyone know names?
Give you a little nudge here….keep your eye on these…the following are all $500K bundlers who have received ambassador appointments: Charles rivkin, David Carden, Bill Eacho and Bruce Oreck. These are $500K bundlers from NYC: Orin Kramer and Robert Wolf.
Robert Wolf of UBS…experts in offshore tax shelters. Makes sense.
I saw this in the a.m. and couldn’t even read it. If we thought we were sick of him in 2008, I am going to need a sensory deprivation tank for the next 2 years. It will be revolting.
One billion dollars down the drain. I could use it. I could do lots of good with that kind of money. Everybody around me would be happy, friends and family. Long lost acquaintances, friends, and family would reappear. New acquaintances, new friends would be emanate from nowhere. We’d be so happy in a world we don’t know exists. I’d be their hope and I’d change their lives. We’d be one in happiness.
Doubt he’ll be able to raise half that amount this time around, even with the Citizens United decision. Who knows. In any case, the real battle imo will be in free media not paid media. Who will bring the highest ratings and traffic online and offline. The most lucrative for the mainstream media and blogs would be a close contest between BO and Palin, and they will try their best to steer things that way during the long build up. In the end though, the establishment PTB elite behind the scenes will make sure BO pulls it out. The only way this script changes is if there is a big populist anti incumbents movement in the country. It’ll depend on the economy and employment.
I wonder if Obama’s fans will revert to their feral behavior when Obama starts to campaign. I’m still looking for the guy who called me a racist during the 2008 primary.
