    • Killing Herd Animals
One of the great crimes and tragedies of our world is how we treat the animals we eat (or whose milk or eggs or other products we eat and use.) Factory farming keeps them in tiny enclosures, feeds them monotonous foods, and then when they’re slaughtered it’s a terrible experience: they’re terrified and die in […]

Christmas Aftermath Open Thread

My big surprise this Christmas was my middle child and his girlfriend came down from Olympia Washington. So I saw both my sons and grandsons, spoke to my daughter in Indiana and got new pictures of my granddaughter.

Not my best Christmas ever, but it’s better than average. Maybe even top ten.

So how was yours? What went right, what went wrong, did you get what you wanted from Santa?

Tell us about your day.

  1. Christmas went well. Got some toys. Gave out lots of toys and such. Received smiles. Pretty good.

  2. It was fine, but a little off this year. I was a bit edgy for no rational reason, so the typical family dynamics got on my nerves. Overall, it was nice, but not in the top ten. I’m looking forward to using one of the massage gift certificates I got, because I need to relax.

  3. Worst Xmas gift of the year: my husband received one of those solar-powered radios. We live in Oregon. At this point we are basically regarding all packages from that particular relative as gag gifts, albeit unintentional. (Before I get shot down for being greeedy…. I made a gift for that relative that took a great deal of time and care. Because I am like Charlie Brown with the football that way.)

  4. Line of the day goes to Secondo, who received from grandma a DVD, upon which she had left the tag. He hoisted the thing in the air and announced, “MOM! This comes from WAL-MART! I saw a COMMERCIAL about it!!!!”

    I am so proud.

Why American men should boycott American women

I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

  6. If you’re in the mood to see faux-gressives obsess over Palin and act as if she’s the one obsessing over Michelle, here’s a fun article. It starts with a large strawman out of the gate:

Snark Palin continued her campaign against first lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to keep the nation’s youth from becoming bedridden obese people who have to be forklifted out of their houses to make doctor’s appointments.

Yes, Palin wants all of our children in that condition. That’s a pretty reasonable conclusion. It gets better:

“Where are the s’mores ingredients? This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert,” says the woman who speaks with little accountability for her constant flow of sarcasm.

The comedy writes itself here. Then after spending some quality time discussing Levi and Bristol, yes, he actually did that, he concludes with this gem:

Note to Mama Grizzly: Your family’s business wouldn’t be out there for all to read if members of said family quit airing their dirty laundry so publicly.

The best part though is in the comments. Take a read for a laugh. Here’s an obvious one:

What I adore most about Gov. Palin is her effortless ability to tie useless Beltway pundit twits up in knots.

And then my favorite from a nutcase Obot:

As I recall, TLC and the show’s executive producers were asked point blank if this fiasco was going to be a political platform for “she who shall not be named.” They assured the media and those of us who asked, “Of course not! It’s travelogue! It’s educational!”

It has turned out to be anything but. It is time for viewers offended by this non-stop diatribe against the Obamas, Democrats, and people with full functioning human brains to revolt. Don’t hide your kids or hide your wife. Call your cable company. Call TLC. Call an end to this boatload of hooey.

I’ve watched some of the shows. There is little or no politics. It really is a travelog with some reality TV of the Palin family. But when this person and others see the show (or maybe hear about it), to them it’s all about politics. That I think is the most telling of all.

    • There seems to have been a bumper crop of hooey this year. Everybody has a pile of it.

Prices must have dropped through the floor.

    • The author of that article was one of the MSNBC’s WaPo Obots. He didn’t think that Hillary was qualified to be president, either.

    • I agree. We shouldn’t have dessert- everyday. My mom rarely made dessert. She was mostly into jello with fruit in it or on rare occasions, apple crisp or home made ice cream with warm elderberry syrup she put up.
      But that’s just me.
I’m not going to tell people what to eat.
In fact, I work with a bunch of French colleagues who indulge in dessert every lunch and they’re all pretty fit. So, ‘splain THAT, Michelle.
Maybe it’s not what you eat but how much you eat compared to how much energy you expend that determines whether you’ll be fat or not.
Maybe Michelle would be doing American kids a favor if she encouraged their suburban parents who are terrified of statistically rare abductions to lighten up and let their kids go outside an play.
Yeah, that’s what I’m voting for.
