    • America Defeats Germany Again
There’s a good article in Der Spiegel on the German energy/industrial crisis which is worth your time. Basically industries which have high energy costs are being crushed. In particular this means chemical and automotive, both big in Germany, but extends far further. (Indeed, the chemical industry was essentially invented by Germany in the 19th century, and […]

Mean Girls

NewsBusters (wingnut warning):

Comedienne Sandra Bernhard called Bristol Palin a hooker on Wednesday’s “The Joy Behar Show.”

BEHAR: So, Sandra, were you ready to shoot the TV last night?

SANDRA BERNHARD, COMEDIAN: I twittered for the entire two hours. My eyeballs were falling out of my head. I said, first of all, I said, Cander and Ebb would not allow this.

BERNHARD: You cannot be part of the Palin legacy and dance to Cander and Ebb in a cage.

BERNHARD: I mean, Bob Fosse, he turned over in his grave.

BEHAR: I know. What about Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers? They`re dead, you know. They died last night.

BERNHARD: Yes. They died and came back and died for the third time.

BEHAR: What`s her name, Bristol on today`s “View” said something like —

BERNHARD: How did she do it? How did she get to New York to do the “View”?

BEHAR: I don`t know.

REBECCA DANA, SENIOR CORRESPONDENT, THE DAILY BEAST: They have their own plane, these people.

BERNHARD: She`s such a hooker. She got on a flight after losing last night.

She also said Bristol wore “hooker shoes.” What I want to know is who the hell called Bernhard a comedienne?

Strangely enough, the prog blogs that were all over Sarah’s North/South Korea slip of the tongue are silent on this story.

  1. Here’s a story from September 2008:

Sandra Bernhard issues ‘gang rape’ warning to Sarah Palin

Sandra Bernhard issued a blistering warning to Sarah Palin during a performance of her new one-woman show.

The Republican V.P. nom would be “gang-raped by my big black brothers” if she enters Manhattan, Bernhard said. Palin is said to be making a campaign stop in New York next week.

“[The gang rape comment] is part of a much larger, nuanced, and yes, provocative (that’s what I do) piece from my show about racism, freedom, women’s rights and the extreme views of Governor Sarah Palin, a woman who doesn’t believe that other women should have the right to choose,” Bernhard told the Daily News today.

  2. Who the hell called Sandra Bernhard sane? She’s f*ckin’ despicable and it seems she’s far from alone. The fauxgressives have apparently dehumanized the Palin family in their own minds so that nothing is out of bounds. I think this is a mental illness which should be beaten back.

    • Goddamnit………..she has a daughter, Cicely who is 12 years old.

She needs to take her pug ass face back to playboy

    • This isn’t really much worse than what Hillary had to endure. Seems to me those of us who defended Hillary and Chelsea are the same ones defending Sarah, Bristol, Trig, and all the Palins. To the Joy Behar’s, Jeralyn Merritt’s, and Sandra Bernhard’s of the world, women who make them jealous are the bullseye on their targets.

      • Hillary was attacked something awful and Chelsea caught some as well. I never heard this much directed at the entire family though. Even the 9 yr old has been attacked a bit.

        • Andrew Sullivan should maybe give a seminar to help Americans understand the etiology of this vile obsession and behavior toward the Palin children. What he’s done during the past two years should not be forgiven. Seriously, he should be made to leave the country.

  3. Now this is funny. From Hot Air (wingnut warning) re: Obama getting elbowed in a b-ball game:

It’s cute that they’re pretending that they’re not sure who elbowed him even though we all know who did it. You learned a lesson today the hard way, champ: When you drive the lane on Hillary, you come strong or don’t come at all.

  4. I believe Sandra Heartburn has issued that gang-rape threat to Sarah once before. I’m sure NOW and NARAL will NOT take her to task for it.

    • I think so, too. This seems like something I heard many months ago….when SP went to New York for some big event I think it was made public that SB’s show had that nasty bit in it….around the time of the Letterman ignorance, I think.

  5. I wonder if there were any women from his cabinet shooting hoops with BO this weekend? Also, it is interesting that the media keeps mentioning Reggie Love in their reporting.

    From politico.com

“THE CULPRIT: The player who elbowed President Obama in the lip during a basketball game on Friday is Rey Decerega, the director of programs for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the White House said.

“I learned today the president is both a tough competitor and a good sport,” Decerega said in a statement. “I enjoyed playing basketball with him this morning. I’m sure he’ll be back out on the court again soon.”

  6. I’m not really addressing anybody here, but for those of you who are so obsessed with attacking Palin, I wonder, what do you hope to accomplish? What motivates you to constantly criticize her? Do you think she’s going to be shamed by your comments and sit down and shut up? Does it just make you feel better to have someone to take all your frustration out on? Are you trying to convince everybody she’s a bad person, so Mitt Romney can become president? Are you trying to convince people to give Obama a second term? Do you think Palin will listen to your complaints and mend her ways? What??

I seriously ask these questions, because there’s no logic to this constant bashing. It doesn’t make the Democratic party more appealing in the eyes of voters. It doesn’t make Palin run home and hide in shame. It doesn’t help Obama become a good president. Honestly, all the Palin bashing accomplishes is to make other women and girls fearful of running for public office in this country. Heck, never mind running for office, it makes women and girls reluctant to even express their opinions or politics in the public sphere.

    • Huh?

      • Seems pretty clear to me, so I don’t get your “huh” — yttik stated she was addressing those who beat up on Palin & asks what they hope to gain from it, because the only thing they are actually accomplishing is telling young girls NOT TO EVER run for public office.
As usual, yttik, I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, I have no answers for you. I think it is plain ol’ misygony — even by those who “pretend to defend Palin against sexist attacks” — because they sure have a lot ot say about her political positions seeing that she ISN’T in office because I certainly don’t see any of them attacking the men in DC who hold Palin’s exact political positions receiving the same treatment as she does.

      • ?

      • Yes, the clarification of her “not really” statement helps.. I didn’t know if she was beating up on just some of us. I didn’t know if she’d actually read myiq before she posted, or just assumed he was beating up on Sarah Palin. I just totally didn’t get the point.

And I agree with you. I don’t support many of Sarah Palin’s positions, but the crazy PDS sends up my “sense of fairness” hackles. I’ve seen bloggers, even here on this board, essentially say that because of things Palin has said, they weren’t going to defend her anymore against the misogynistic BS. All I can think is that I’m glad the court system doesn’t work that way. I’m sure plenty of unlikeable people have been victims of crimes against their dignity, and the courts didn’t usually offer them less justice because of personality issues (or whatever).

So we’re on the same page. I’ll rail against her political positions, which I almost always HATE, but I’ll defend like crazy her right make them without misogynistic ridicule. Personnally, I think that’s what being a feminist is all about.

        • The worst thing is that this wasn’t even an attack on Sarah, it was an attack on her daughter.

          • IMHO her daughter was just a vessel for attacking her….to place a shiv right in her heart.

It’s a hard adjustment to know that people I used to sort of like are just plain evil.

          • Not a new tactic for the progs. Remember “pimping Chelsea?”

          • Just like the “pimping Chelsea” incident, except there will be no price to pay and few complaints about this, I would guess. I’d like to be wrong about that.

          • The view just won’t stop their bs, they have been getting away with the shit for way too long.

Where’s the petition to get them off air? Palady doesn’t need to wait to respond. She’s needs to jump on it right now, and so does Bristol.

This ideal that some of us pretend to fight sexism, is a bunch of bs too.

    • It speaks to the personality of people who evangelized for Obama and today still can’t let go. The real diehards believe helping Obama become Potus was the greatest deepest thing they’ve done in their lives, and they won’t let anyone spoil that idea of themselves. It would crush their ego. It’s not politics so much as mental balance.

    • yttik,
      Yep, I agree.
You just described the entire frustration with the
state of womens affairs in current day america/world.
The attack against women is mounting and people are blinded to it.

However… women like Sarah have been getting it all their lives.
Smart, sharp, multi-tasking beautiful women are
a major threat on all levels.
They Must Be Destroyed and/or banished.

Sarah is well used to it. Go Sarah.
      She makes me stronger.

We don’t agree on many issues with her, but we are a heluva lof closer in philosophy than the current majorities in WH and upcoming House Rep.

    • I agree, yttik.

  7. I think the “not really addressing anyone here” perhaps should have been “not addressing anyone here” to avoid confusion. In any case, I agree that the Palin haters won’t accomplish much with their attacks — except, as you say, dissuading women from wanting to seek office.

  8. gang rape isn’t funny, SB. neither is classism. but i don’t expect well-off media celebrities like you to understand nor care about that. it’s why i don’t own a TV.

    • Chidy left something out.

      “well-off media D-List celebrities”

      Fixed!

I can be mean, too, and I’m not even a girl. 😉

    • No it is not funny. It’s more like women who set the example for young people on how to be a bully. It’s not rape-rape to them.

      • Yeah and those losers trashed Hillary and Cynthia McKinney as well. That lot of so called progressive women have also made nasty racist sexist comments about Yoko Ono, so yeah, even their pathetic (and no excuse either) “defense” that they only go after right wing women is false. They attack women who actually are feminist and much more truly liberal than they are.
And on top of they defend repulsive misogynist men who they like- like that child rapist scum Polanski.

    • It’s even less funny when she brings in the idea that a bunch of black men are just waiting to rape. There is little difference between that kind of talk and the stuff Mel Gibson said to his girlfriend about dressing in a way that would get her raped by black men.

      • And it shows that they are the ones that are actually the racists. Look what an offensively racist thing she is spouting off about African American men. It’s not only full of her misogyny but grossly racist too.

  9. Speaking of mean girls, Jeralyn posted about Obama’s boo boo and then said he could console himself with the fact that his children’s book (Of me, I sing) is on the NY Times best seller list.

First off, that best seller list has been rigged from day one. Everybody knows that. It’s just a free promotion for your book, if you’re famous. And I’m sure the WH bought a ton of copies for Xmas gifts.

Second off, as I’ve said repeatedly and will continue to say, Obama is not an athlete and cannot play basketball worth a damn. These games are all to stroke his ego. He was not first string – anyplace, ever. If it weren’t his court, he’s still be sitting on the bench.

    What a fraud.

    • Well, since the latest story is he wrote that children’s book BEFORE he took office, he doesn’t have anything else to do during the day except play basketball and host cocktail parties.

      Fraud is right!!

  10. I know Jeffrey Ross is a sexist pig, but any time I think of Sandra Bernhard I remember him at the Friars Club Roast for Jerry Stiller, and what he had to say about Sandra.

  11. Even before Sandra made an @$$ of herself in 2008, I never did get how she was supposed to be funny.

To veer off from Palin-bashing, I never “got” Jerry Seinfeld or Andy Kaufman (RIP), either.

IIRC, Dane Cook hosted one of the last SNLs I tried to watch, and I didn’t see how he was supposed to be funny.

I guess I’d make a poor clown.

    • I like Seinfeld (the show anyway) but not the others.

I don’t get Howard Stern either.

    • I think Seinfeld’s show was funny due to the character interactions. It had a really good ensemble cast.

Stern seems to just be offensive and, somehow has managed to become wealthy doing it.

      • I was talking about Seinfeld’s standup. I’ve only seen a few episodes of his show. I’ve worked nights for nearly 18 years now, so I don’t see much prime-time TV. I don’t watch much at other times, either.

        • You haven’t missed much on TV 🙂

          • Lost! Sherlock! White Collar! Supernatural!

            Back to the point –

I think I remember Howard Stern being the one who interviewed black people off the street, asking if they supported what O supported, and then gave a position which O did not support.

They said yep, yeah, O all the way.

Not a surprise, but pretty revealing nonetheless.

  12. Jerry Seinfeld doing standup was funny but not that funny to me. Lukewarm safe funny enough to do a primetime sitcom with a funnier supporting cast. Not in the same league as Murphy, Miller, Chappelle, Carvey, Sykes, Pollock, Foxworthy, Rudner, Maher, Stewart, Griffin, Gervais, and many younger standups today. Politics aside. They all also become less funny doing set piece shows or movies imo.

    • Oops, missed the nest.

      • Pryor and Carlin of course.

        • Wonder if it’s possible to do funny standup without slighting or being offensive to somebody or something else, even when the comic is being somewhat self-referential. Maybe not. Would seem the establishment elite would make a good target these days for comics, but not much of that going on. I’ll stop talking now.. 🙂

          • Oh and Ellen, she does very good standup.

          • Richard Pryor and Carlin were two of the best stand-up comedians ever! Both probably insulted a lot of people along the way but it was well worth it. Both were anti-establishment figures always, so in these times there should be lots of it.

Ellen does very good stand-up and I generally think her interview show is a cut above the rest.

          • I think Bill Cosby did a good job with stand up comedy without being mean

  13. I think the Palin bashing is having a very big effect– just not what they expected. I started paying attention to her because of the idiots. Even picked up her book.

And o’s book which he was supposed to have written before he became president. Would that be when he was a Senator not doing his day job. He was able to keep up with everything going on in the chamber fly around the country steal other people’s speeches and still have the time to sit down and write a kid’s book?

  14. How are these people any different than Rush Limbaugh? It’s the same insults but different parties. Now Bristol was a horrible dancer on DWTS and she didn’t win but so what? That should be the end of the story. Why do people keep going on and on about this?

  15. Misoygnists are men–and women–who hate women and girls and assault them by any means possible. Sandra and Joy are misogynists.
